I love this disc. Leif Ove Andsnes is a magnificent pianist, he never disappoints me in his playing. This is one of those discs I will return to constantly - I only bought it recently and have listened to it dozens of times already - perfect at the end of a busy, stressful day or early in the morning with a cup of coffee as the dawn light is breaking in. Buy it - you won't regret it.

Bought this for my 92 year old dad..he loves it...and wants this version of Claire de Lune played at his funeral...which hopefully will be a long way off..

A pleasing collection of piano music, with only 3 duff tracks- the Shostakovich (of course!), the Antheil (the who?!) and the Ibert (whom I hadn't heard of either but who came up in a crossword the other day) out of 22. Particularly like the Scriabin, the R Strauss, the Mompou (surprisingly - one of his rare harmonious pieces), the Chopin and the Grieg. So well worth getting, all the more so given that you can pick it up for just a few quid if you shop around.

This is a gorgeously played album and one that I keep returning to. I'd love to see these live.

I think that it's worth noting that I've bought this CD three times, though, and that each version of the disc has had the same problems with the last two tracks on every one of seven players that I've tried them on. Debussy's ¨Clair de lune¨, for example (track 21) will not play through completely without a large amount of skipping and falsing.

I can only assume that there's an issue with the pressings, because it's been the same with each copy of the disc on such a multitude of players. No visible scratches, either.

However, as I said earlier on - a wonderful disc apart from this. 5 stars for content, 1 for the disc itself. Anything less than four would be unfair, though - the music's fantastic.

Evidemment un catalogue de bis avec toutes les limites du genre. Mais c'est joué avec un chic, une sensibilité et une sincérité tout à fait remarquables. Donc à recommander

5.0 out of 5 stars SHORT, SWEET AND LOVELY
Reviewed in the United States on 12 September 2007
According to the notes in this release the selections contained therein are a personal collection of piano encores selected and wonderfully played by pianist Leif Ove Andsnes. Indeed it is a rich and full recording (close to 70 minutes in length) of short (each averaging about 3 ½ minutes in length) piano works composed by (or arranged) composers such as Jean Sibelius, Felix Mendelssohn, Frederic Chopin, Edward Grieg, Claude Debussy, Franz Liszt--to name a few. All of the selections are played very beautifully by Leif Ove Andsnes always with gorgeous tone through out the recording. Plus the encores on this disc are very interesting musically from the virtuosic Franz Liszt "Valse Impromptu" to the introspection and beauty of Debussy's "Clair de lune"
I really loved Smetana's "At the Sea" and Cyril Scott's two pieces opus 47. Infact I enjoyed this entire album immensely. It is truly played wonderfully and it contains some rather familiar works intermingled with some rather unknown repertoire played by a master of the piano. In addition the recorded sound is good too.

Leif Ove Andsnes is an incredible artist on the piano and his talents are showcased in this cd. His artistry has an extensive range as exhibited in the diversity of this repertoire. This is classical piano at its best.
