Limited clear blue vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket. Digitally remastered and expanded edition including a bonus track. 1999 album from the premier Swedish metallers. The album already showcases the unique Evergrey sound which merges power-, progressive- and dark melodic metal to create the very own sound the band is known for. Includes an exclusive bonus track with new cover and booklet layouts created by Carlos Fides (Artside Studios). The album has been remastered by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe, Pretty Maids). Evergrey's lyrics have always been of the darker sort, and the same can be said of the band's imagery.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

AFM Records has released Evergrey's first two albums on vinyl in limited edition fashion. Solitude Dominance Tragedy was the follow up to the band's 1998 debut (also now available on vinyl) and has been released on blue vinyl with #450 copies. This dark and edgy progressive masterpiece has long been a fan favorite, so it is really nice to finally have it available on vinyl. It comes housed in a double-gatefold jacket with new artwork (note the bleeding crowns on the heads) with lyrics printed on the inside of the jackets. There is only one LP disc which is nicely weighted and features 5 tracks per side. The final track on Side 2 is a bonus track, the demo version of "To Hope Is To Fear" from the debut. I had some initial surface noise from dirty grooves, which after repeated plays cleared out. I've included my review (below) from the 2004 Special Edition.
1998/2004 Special Edition Evergrey’s second release was embraced more widely than the excellent debut, but really contains the same basic formula for success. Perhaps there is a bit more of a progressive feel to these songs, but really the production sound is comparable and the guitar sound is very similar. The use of strings intermittently, along with more orchestral/choral elements does give this a more epic feel. “Nosferatu,” now a classic for this band, is an eerie song lyrically, seemingly about a demon of the same name, which really incorporates a lot of progressive groove and tempo variation. Compared to the songs on the debut, there is more of this kind of experimentation and tempo variation here, but without sacrificing the band’s wonderfully dark and thick sound. Also, unlike In Search of Truth this album retains a very heavy vibe throughout and the guitars are way up front in the mix. In fact, the only criticism of this album may be that Englund’s voice seems a bit too far back in the mix and the bass doesn’t have the punch of later albums. Also, the spoken parts are more prominent here and there is an almost cinematic quality to some of these songs. The alien abduction theme on the mesmerizing “The Shocking Truth” sets the stage for what was to follow on the next album. Likewise, the themes presented on the bitter “A Scattered Me” are later explored on the very disturbing Inner Circle album. There the theme is clearly a cult’s abuse and misuse of God’s Word, but here the writer seems to be blaming God for his condition or situation. The next song continues in this vein with “She Speaks to the Dead,” which is a song of exorcism. I love the heavy distorted guitar sounds in this song. Few bands delve into this kind of subject matter and even fewer do it within the scope of heavy melodic metal rather than either black/death metal or gothic metal. This is truly what makes Evergrey so special and certainly what sets them apart from their peers. In other words, the music is very moving, infectious but yet at the same time very melodic and very heavy. One of the greatest tracks on this disc is the beautiful, yet sad ballad “Words Mean Nothing.” While much of this album may be beyond the comprehension of the average listener, this one song and the “words” it sings will stick with you for a long time. “Damnation” is a killer groove laden song with powerful syncopated drums that sounds a bit like Symphony X. While more heavy and doomy than progressive, this is essential.
