About the author
Hannah Pearl was born in East London. She is married with two children and now lives in Cambridge.
She has previously worked as a Criminology researcher, as a Development Worker with various charities and even pulled a few pints in her time.
In 2014 she was struck down by Labrynthitis, which left her feeling dizzy and virtually housebound. She has since been diagnosed with ME. Reading has allowed Hannah to escape from the reality of feeling ill. She read upwards of three hundred books during the first year of her illness. When her burgeoning eReader addiction grew to be too expensive, she decided to have a go at writing. In 2017 she won Simon and Schuster’s Books and the City #heatseeker short story competition, in partnership with Heat magazine, for her short story The Last Good Day.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 May 2019With an eye-catching cover, this author certainly delivers drama. Hannah Pearl cleverly starts the story slowly and clearly to introduce the characters and set the scene.
At a school reunion Jess meets her old boyfriend Dex for the first time since he disappeared without warning ten years ago. Their feelings for each other are still the same, but Dex is deeply troubled and Jess is determined to help him. What happened to him all those years ago? Time for Jess and her friends to do some detective work.
This book is described as 'gut-wrenching story not for the fainthearted', don't worry, there are explanations but without elaborate details that might upset a nervous reader.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 May 2019I was privileged to read this as a manuscript from Choc Lit, and as soon as receiving it I couldn’t put it down! The story between Jess and Dex was also wonderful to read about.
The author had written about relevant issues to date. Issues that have arisen in the novel are not really spoken about and I feel the author has done a good job in making a part of her story. The story I feel could help people of a similar situation!
I highly recommend this novel, it was well written and an even though it deals with serious issues it was an easy read! It would be good if there was a sequel to see the follow on from the story too.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 May 2019I enjoyed reading this, it was not the usual type of romance and dealt with some difficult topics. It took a while to take off, and then raced through to the finish, keeping me reading. Although it is shorter than some stories, the main backstory was well detailed, helping to build the tension, and the complicated past relationships felt true to life and believable. There was a real sense of creepy menace and a dramatic conclusion which made a compelling and unputdownable story.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 May 2019I have read two books by this author before but they were written in a different genre. I enjoyed her feel good stories and I was curious to find out what this darker book had in store for me.
I admire authors. Whether they stick to one kind of style or surprise you suddenly with a different one, it does not matter. Being able to see your readers being entertained by what you have put on paper must be such fun.
In this book,it’s proven, once again, that something traumatic that happened to you will keep haunting you even if there are several years between now and then. Talking about it probably would have helped, but who can you turn to? Who will listen to you and more importantly believe you? And now it’s too late or is there still hope?
The author has added a sprinkle of suspense that keeps you guessing. Well, let me put it like this : you know but you do not really know. 😉
This story has kept me entertained from the beginning until the end. It made me smile, but it pulled my heartstrings as well. 4 stars.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 May 2019I gave this book 5 stars as it is written in plain English telling you the stories of the characters without going into loads of court room drama. I found the detailing enough to make it thought provoking and this can happen to anyone at anytime.
Brilliantly written and a good all round read. Look forward to your next piece of work.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 July 2019A very moving story. Although it was quite a dark subject in places and not the kind I usually lread
I really enjoyed it . A very well written story.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 June 2019Very well written, gripping and certainly thought provoking. A difficult subject handled with care and sensitivity. Something different to the usual romances. Definitely recommend.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 May 2019A difficult subject handled sensitively. Yes, there's romance, but as a back drop to the main storyline exploring a young man's troubled teenage years and its ongoing adverse effect upon his present life a decade later. His former school friends rally together to support and help him fight the injustice of his own past treatment and that of others. At first reluctant to accept their intervention, he gradually learns to open up and in doing so, allows himself to reach a point where he can start to look forward without the shadow of his past colouring the future.
