About the author

During her downtime Deb likes escaping from reality (and housework) to the bondu. This is where her characters and their stories are born.
She enjoys writing in different genres and this could be the reason why she’s not a New York Times best seller yet (though there could be lots of other reasons too.) Deb’s series include the supernatural suspense Afterlife books, the first of which was inspired by ants, Unlikely Soldiers (based on some of her experiences in the British Army) and The Island Dog Squad series of novellas. She’s also written children’s books about Jason the penguin and Barry the reindeer, a novel about netball players, as well as a non-fiction book about a boy born to be different (co-written with Zak’s Mum, Joanne). There are also two novels in the Aliens Guide series. Her latest books, The Island Expats, are cosy mysteries set on the fictional island of Souvia.
Her current work in progress is a fun read (not) about how she coped with cancer.
Deb’s husband, Allan, is also a weather refugee and they live in Cyprus with their rescue dog, Sandy.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 November 2016I enjoyed this story. It was full of interesting characters, both living and dead, with some very complicated relationships. I would have liked more dialogue since this is how a reader gets to know the characters in depth; more showing than telling, and I smiled at the spelling of bidet with B-day. But this is a lovely story to read at Christmas. Not a conventional ghost story, but a thought provoking concept of what could happen after we die. I can recommend Beyond Death.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 April 2022Beyond life is an interesting take on when one dies whether your time or not. This thought provoking with humour and fun read is an interesting way of looking at beyond life. Certainly worth a read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 December 2015The whole series took me simply 4 days to read they were such page turners.
'Beyond Death' is the story of what could happen when you die, depending on how you conducted yourself during your lifetime on earth.
Claire Sylvester is a main character taken before her time, finding herself in between Heaven & Hell. She has so many questions for the angel that greets her, along with the man who caused their deaths. She wants to know everything.
Claire soon learns she can return to earth & discovers she can communicate with her twin older brothers. Also a great many secrets about her family are revealed, which she has to come to terms with and it is not always easy. Some parts are rather amusing.
We don't get to experience heaven but we do get a little insight into hell and the evil doers that are prodded and pulled down by rough scaley hands to be tortured & tormented. It is a little disturbing at times when you are let into the mind of the evil ones and you wonder if good can overcome the dreadful evil, especially when inflicted upon youngsters.
A great story I just had to read on & on. But don't take my word for it download a copy & read it for yourself. Happy Reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars What lies beyond?
This book has been lying in my kindle reader for a while, because it is not the sort of read you just nibble on as a fun snack. With so much death as 2016 drew to a close, it seemed an appropriate topic to tackle.
I have to admit I had no idea what to expect ftom this story, but the premise seemed intriguing and the catchy beginning hooked me from the start. Writing about the paranormal is like dancing the thin line between poignant and unsubstantial, but author Deb McEwan certainly has important things to relay. Despite the afterlife topic and the element of ghost, angels and devils, the author manages not to turn this into a horror, but more a contemporary family drama. In fact, the horrible events in the book keep happening in the "real" life, not in the beyond. It felt gratifying to read how the villains are dealt with, although the author never makes it all peachy and nice, aware that the battle of evil vs. good is eternal.
Interesting plots and subplots which all intertwine and merge, clean writing and an uncommon premise will keep your interest throughout the story, especially if you like reading about angels and the afterlife. We all wonder what comes next, right?

4.0 out of 5 stars A kinda fun read.
Not my favorite idea of an afterlife but it's well written with likable characters. Much of the sadness of loss is alleviated by allowing us to see there is another life after death. In this case the loss goes both ways and we see the pain suffered by those that have died. The kind guardian angels allow them not only to see those they left behind but in some cases to make contact and help them move on. The idea that some not so bad people can be rescued even from Hell I like. Much of it is rather humorous but there's too much pain and suffering for me to really enjoy it fully.

3.0 out of 5 stars Has potential
I will revisit this author in the future. She has the potential to write a best seller but isn't quite there yet. I enjoyed the characters and the premise of the book but the story was all over the place. It didn't flow well. It was very choppy. Again, I see the potential, but this book just didn't cut it this time for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Story, Nice Twist on A Familiar Theme
Claire is 25 years old. Her life is cut short on the very night she is engaged. She finds herself in the half-way house where the Admin Angels decide her fate … heaven or hell. Because the Angels were busy with a major disaster that night, it turns out that Claire's death was an accident. She will have to go back to earth on some assignments before a decision will be made about her fate.
The premise of this book is not new, but the quirkiness of Claire's situation, the Admin Angel and the events that transpire while back on earth are unique … some funny, some not. The characters are fantastic, from outraged Claire who is not afraid to yell at an Angel, to her twin brothers, father, fiancé, Jay and her roommate, Tash.
It's a delightful book which I recommend reading, especially if you want to find out what the admin Angels and the Chairman decide about Claire's fate. After all, it was their moment of inattention that led Clair to be there well ahead of schedule!
