- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2024Bobby was always right up front with Jerry ~ Garcia that is. I was one of, “ Jerry’s Kids “ , graduated from the University of the Grateful Dead East Coast. Somewhere along the Watchtower, Bobby never lost the sound , stayed healthy , and didn’t become an alcoholic/ addict like an awful lot of us. Good On Ya ~ Ole Friend , I’ve loved your River song since the first second I heard it , just can’t remember the name. ⚡️

- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2017After following the Dead for years, I bought this CD for my 60th Birthday/Christmas present to myself. I loved it and am still playing it in my car when I go anywhere.Sometimes I bring it inside to play BUT my non Dead-head roommate does not like it and says it sounds too country. Dah!How about that? Crack up. I especially like "Gallop on the Run," and have made arrangements to play that for my funeral when they lower the coffin into that cold hard ground. Then how about Gonesville? Please all of these songs are so fantastic that when I drive onto my property, I crack open a beer, and blare the CD, as loud as I can, as I can't get enough of it. So like, I am crazy, it is my house, and I am looking onto the Mesa in front of my view, in NE Arizona and feel so fortunate that Bobby wrote (et al,) this for my birthday. Cause I know he did it for himself first, and me and you too. What about the bossie kayeah or whatever he is crooning about. So I am taking my roommate up to Show Low to look for his own place so I can play Bob and the Dead and Jerry's last show. Over and over again. My Mesa looks blue sometimes and I just had the coyotes out there the other night, howling for more Bobby too, for real, they were right down the hill after my stop at my meditative sight where I listen to Blue Mountain, and feel like I am one of the luckiest people alive. Does anyone understand this?
- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2023I had not ever heard of this man or his music until one night at the Brown County Music Center in Nashville, Indiana while waiting for The Oak Ridge Boys to come onstage they played one of his songs. I immediately looked up the song title, found it and Mr Weir with a YouTube video, I’m hooked!!! 🙂
I listen to this cd every night before bed, and have even purchased another for my Uncle who’s a real cowboy.🤠🐴
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2016Very surprising music from Weir. Acoustic rootsy oriented. Interesting look back towards his formative years living the ranch life. While seemingly not direct retelling of his story (words written mostly by others) the perspective is very focused on this concept album, Weir's voice has a very different timber than long-time followers might expect. Less bombastic, folkier, thinner sounding with occasional phrases that seem more in his usual wheelhouse. I enjoyed this a lot. Nice players, decent production and a good listen.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2024I loved what he did to Shenandoah.
The other songs are great also, but the whole world sounds like an old man singing song after song. It's poetic, but it's not raw youthful rock and roll
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2017A wonderful mix of Folk and country with the style of spoken word poetry. Many will know Bob as the co-founder of the classic band The Grateful Dead. This is an album that has a mixture of emotional baggage style lyrics. Very deep and moody, almost on the lines of a Depression speaking and yet a poetic undertaking. The rough style of vocals garnered around music creates an experience that is unforgettable. I feel this is an album that shines with a complex wordplay, and most of all folk style storytelling. It’s a wonderful example of stories created into music. It almost reminds me of the old Cowboy Poetry. You have a storyteller mixing it with musical tunes. Weir captures a flawless example of how to create an album of memorable stories, and music. One will find themselves returning to again and again. The album is a mixture of Bob Dylan and Baxter Black, and the force of originality that only Bob Weir can create and accomplish. Highly Recommended.
5 Word Praise: Stylistic, Flawless story telling. Prodigious.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2016You've got to give it to Bob Weir: the man has barely slowed down in all the years since Jerry's passing. There's been Ratdog and Further and his alliances with his brethren from the Grateful Dead, not to mention an extraordinary Netflix documentary (The Other One) that hopefully dispels the notion that he was a mere sideman to J.G. But there have been zero solo releases. Blue Mountain, it turns out, is his first solo album in three decades. In a word, it's stunning. The production. The songs. The arrangements. The playing. Bob's voice.
Spare, acoustic, and timeless, Blue Mountain is hardly new terrain for the man who wrote "Sugar Magnolia," "Playing in the Band," and "Weather Report Suite," but it certainly adds to his oeuvre. There's no point in delineating the tunes on BM and expounding on their virtues; they're all great. One can only hope that this album does to Weir's career what Oh Mercy and Time Out of Mind did for Dylan's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un tuffo negli States più profondi
Bello, davvero.

5.0 out of 5 stars Komplett anders als gedacht

5.0 out of 5 stars le cowboy fatigué
