Empire Reborn: A Galactic Intrigue Space Opera (Taran Empire Saga Book 1) Kindle Edition
A forgotten alien enemy's return reignites an ancient galactic war.
As a young officer in the galactic military, Jason Sietinen lives in the shadow of his war hero parents. When a civilian starship is inexplicably destroyed, leading the investigation is a chance for Jason to prove himself as a leader in his own right.
As Jason begins unraveling the mystery, he confronts his own career-defining conflict. Powerful aliens are behind the attack, seeking revenge for a rogue faction within the Taran Empire breaking an ancient treaty.
Shadowy players use the attack to advance their own agenda, stoking civil unrest that threatens to destroy the Empire from within. Standing at the critical intersection between military might and political influence, Jason and his family know they must do everything they can to prevent a galactic civil war if they're going to survive the alien menace.
With looming threats on both fronts, can they unite the feuding worlds before the aliens launch a civilization-ending invasion?
Empire Reborn is the riveting first novel in the Taran Empire Saga, perfect for fans of space opera featuring sprawling galactic empires, virtuous heroes with telekinetic powers, and high-stakes plots.

About the Taran Empire Saga
A forgotten alien enemy's return reignites an ancient galactic war.
When a civilian starship is inexplicably destroyed, young military officer Jason Sietinen launches an investigation to solve the mystery.
As Jason unravels the clues, he soon learns that powerful, transdimensional aliens are behind the attack. A rogue faction within the Empire broke an ancient treaty, and the aliens are back for revenge.
With the future of the Taran Empire hanging in the balance, Jason and his family stand at the intersection of military might and political influence. Facing a brewing galactic civil war, their only hope is to unite the feuding Taran worlds before the aliens launch a civilization-ending invasion.
The Taran Empire Saga is a direct sequel to the original Cadicle space opera series; it can be read as a standalone series and entry point to the Cadicle Universe.
"DuBoff successfully accomplishes the tricky balancing act of acknowledging the massive Cadicle Universe narrative while also pushing forward into new territory. [...] By the end, a rattled status quo hints at an intriguing sequel. Our verdict: Get it." - Kirkus Reviews
"Empire Reborn puts emphasis on the game of space politics. But it is a political allegory that goes beyond escapism. [...] The book has such a sense of narrative richness. It is a story that balances dialogue and characterization, as we get to know more about the cosmic threat based on every interaction, and you believe the danger as it lurks. Discovering its resolution will make you want to read the next installment." - Winner, Readers' Favorite International Book Awards
"I loved how the book drew me in, especially the mystery aliens [...] Empire Reborn is a fun ride through a well-thought-out alternate universe that makes me look at the Moon in a different way." - Liminal Fiction

- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2023For the start of a series this book checks all the right marks. A big cast, lots of plotlines heading forward, interesting characters, politics, and big moral discussions. There are even a few mysteries to solve like what hidden alien artifacts are on earth and what the giant space leviathan crazy tentacle guys intend for the Tararian race.
I wasn't a huge fan of the slang because honestly putting an accent on an existing word doesn't make it foreign, but I get it. It's a good effort anyway. I think the less you think about the Earth related mysteries in general the better off the story is.
Overall though I really like this opening book and the characters going forward. It stands alone within a bigger universe and I'd be interested in reading the prior books after finishing this series

an exceptional read. Looking forward to Book 2 of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2021I absolutely loved this book!! I’ve been waiting a long time for the sequel to Cadicle, and Ms. DuBoff knocked it clear out of the park...she stays with her tried and true generational character building, which always astonishes me in her works! This time we get to see Jason step up to the plate...her writing is so good in this genre...I imagine it’s hard to build multi-generational families, yet she does...and we get everything, not only great action but great interpersonal relationships, awesome world building; one of her biggest strengths...I can’t wait for the next installment...do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in a wonderful universe full of awe!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2021Ms. DuBoff’s has given us once again a new an interesting start for what I am sure will be a great series. The characters have depth and the story is riveting. There is plenty of action as well as character development. Having some knowledge of the prior work in the Cadicle Universe would be helpful, but isn’t necessary to enjoy this book.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review, and like others I purchased a copy.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2022A nice twist on the future and contact with a new species. Well written. Within the bounds of science with no unbelievable things introduced just to keep the story going. Wonderful read.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2021Empire Reborn, by A K DuBoff, is as elegant as it is ambitious. Picking up shortly after the original Cadicle series leaves off, this new series quickly delivers us to a new, unfathomable threat to all Taran life.
Though this is considered a standalone series, I found it more pleasurable to read being already immersed in the original storyline. An unfamiliar reader, however, will be brought up to speed with key characters and background as the story progresses.
I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait until the story is continued.
Do yourself a favor and purchase this.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2022Even with plenty of call backs to events which happen before, what happens in the book is stale. Some minor plot lines are started but will be continued in other books. But the main thread does not appear to be much of a bother to the cast. I had trouble getting interested in most of the cast.

Great reading in the continuing saga of Tarans. She missed a couple of details that happened earlier in the book. Overall a well constructed story

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sci fi
An empire at peace surely it can't last. Some internal uprising, friction among the masses, an existential threat from another dimension will surely haunt their future.
Great characters and world building and an all encompassing plot told from many viewpoints make for a great read
