Broken hearts are better left broken.
That has been my motto for the last seven years.
I keep everyone out. Even the music that beats through me.
Until I meet Noah Taylor.
He cracks the ice.
Brings music back to my life.
He makes me believe my dreams are within my grasp.
But the ghosts of my past refuse to stay put.
And they might put out the fire inside of me forever.

Original review

This book was provided by the author through The Next Step PR in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Tori Fox and The Next Step PR!

The Ghost of You
is the first book in the Broken Lyrics Duet and tells the story of Anna and Noah.

This is the second series I’ve read/started by Tori Fox and I think this one is my favourite one so far. I really wanted to know what was going to happen to Anna and Noah in The Ghost of You, because their story isn’t your average Romance story. Anna and Noah have both been through a lot and finding love again isn’t something they think they’re capable of.

After finishing the first chapter of The Ghost of You, I knew that I was going to love this book. Anna and Noah are just so fun to read about because I cannot stop smiling when I’m reading about them. You just know that they are made for each other even though they don’t realise it yet. Anna and Noah fit so well together because they’re different but in a good way. I loved reading about them and Noah’s nickname for Anna is just so adorable!

I did see the plot twist coming at the end of the book, but that didn’t make it easier to read about. I’m also still recovering from the ending of The Ghost of You. I’m kinda angry and Tori Fox for ending her book like that… The Ghost of You was such an amazing book and I really need the sequel, The Fate of Us!

THE REVIEW OF THE GHOST OF YOU BY TORI FOX

GENRE:CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE.
AUTHOR:TORI FOX.
TYPE:BOOK#1 OF THE BROKEN DUET SERIES.
POV: FIRST PERSON...DUAL POV.
MY RATING: 5 MUSICAL STARS...

****

Anna May has a past which is really difficult to overcome....the mysteries and hurt has always chased her no matter the place and how much time passes. Noah, similarly, is trying to move on from the hurt and betrayal from the only person he has loved ever. When they meet, they try to help each other overcome their fears...But will they ever run away from the past?? Or will it finally catch up to them and suffocate them??

I can see the same sorrow in her eyes I look at in the mirror every day, yet somehow she seems to have moved on, lived. Where I am stuck in the same place, doing the same thing every night.

This book is easily the one book I could re-read multiple times. The characters were relatable and amazing. The story about two people moving on and finding true meaning in their lives.. sounds refreshing to a reader's ear. This story depicts the difficulty a person faces to removes the clutches of the mark left behind by betrayal and tragedy. I love the boldness of the female main character. Noah was the man every girl dreams about....policemen chivalrous and protective of the ones he calls his...The bond between brothers and family gatherings was the best part...

“It was the first time in a long time that I felt like I could breathe again. That I could feel my heart beating in my chest. My body came alive for the first time in seven years when I kissed you, Noah. You are all I want.”

“My heart physically ached at the pain of felling again…”

This book is sweet and innocent, this is a story about loss, hope, love, family, and risk. Two broken hearts just surviving without truly living; dragging ghosts of their pasts into their presents and the only way of getting over them is together but the fear is still there.

Anna is living with a weight on her shoulders that’s bigger than her; her life is just moving but she’s not truly living; one accident seven years ago changed her life, and now she has so many fears, so many questions and she cant get pass them without feeling the heartache all over again. But she willing to move on for Noah, even if the questions are still there.

Noah is stuck in the past, and he’s not willing to take risks that involves his heart, as a police officer he knows about danger but nothing compares to a broken heart; Anna is everything he wish he had, but he’s not a risk taker, not after what happened five years ago. Loss is what bounds them, hope is what might bring them together.

Book one of a duet. Ends with a cliff-hanger.

The Ghost of you by Tori Fox

This is the first book of a duet. A great story, quick read, and, had me hooked from page one. Neighbors Noah and Anna both have had a traumatic ending to their last relationships. Years have passed for both, it takes their friendship plus their family & friends to make them see they are ready to move on. Add in meddling brothers, sassy best friends to round out the book. Can not wait to see how this plays out in book 2.
Will be recommending to others.

I received an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I loved the first book of Noah and Anna's story, I couldn't put it down. These two are so drawn to each other that it seems impossible for them to fight it. They have both been hurt by the people they loved. Anna her fiance, Noah his wife, and they both have been alone for years afraid to love again. Anna finally goes home after seven years and finds what was hidden from her all that time she runs...

She promised Noah she wouldn't run like his ex wife did, but she did, and now he's heartbroken. But with two people meant to be together as these two are, they have to get their happily ever after, right? I had a hard time focusing on anything around me, because I was so focused on finding out what happened next. My main complaint is that this book is a part 1 instead of a full book, i hate when you have to wait for the next part of the story especially when they're addicting like this one. Part 1 was very well written and I am looking forward to part 2 and can't wait to read it.

This was an emotional story in which both main characters are trying to escape the ghosts of their past. The overall tone of the book is quite melancholy but there are some spots of humor and amazingly done intimate scenes towards the end.

Noah is the sexy hot cop that lives next door to Anna. Attraction pulls them to each other but their tragic pasts keep them apart. I enjoyed their dance of push and pull, wavering between giving into their lust for each other and yet not wanting to open their hearts to love again. Sometimes books like this walk a fine line when one of the chracters have a previous love interest. For me, while I want to appreciate the heartache and loss the character experiences, I also want to feel like the present love interest is not second place. I felt like this book walked the edge on this but hopefully in book 2 it will be very clear that they are the greatest loves of each other's lives.

The sexual attraction was intense and I loved the steamy scenes in this book. Noah is a very sweet guy with a good guy persona. So it's always a bit hot when men like that talk dirty in the bedroom. It's like you don't see it coming. I also loved the secondary characters that just add that extra layer of fun and humor to the story including Noah's brothers and Anna's gay best friend. This does end on a bit of a cliche cliffhanger but the next book will be releasing next month so you don't have to wait that long.

I was given this ARC by the author for an honest review. This is the first book in a two part series and I'm giving this first book 4.5 stars out of 5. It was very well written and very entertaining it had me smiling and chuckling. I was involved with the story from the very start and it just kept getting better and better as it continued. You fell in love with Anna and Noah from the very start and wondered why the loves of their past still haunted them and wouldn't let them move forward. Just when things seemed to be coming together for both of them, there was a twist in the story you didn't see coming and now we are left hanging until the second book.

I love a nice slow burn and this book has it in spades. Noah and Anna are both nursing broken hearts and fighting ghosts from their pasts. Both barely living, afraid to let themselves love again. This story is beautiful and I loved reading it. The slow burn, angsty relationship build up was sizzling. Once these two gave into their feelings, I thought they would set my kindle on fire. I loved Noah and Anna along with all the side characters. This was such an enjoyable read right up until that jaw dropping ending. I need the next book now!! You need to read this book.

Oh my cliffhanging heart!
Ghost of You was one heck of a painful ride, full of past heartache and future growth.
Both Anna and Noah are both suffering from broken hearts, regrets and painful memories.
Fate steps in and throws these two together again and again, with a few missteps and shoves from friends like Seraphina, who was an absolute hoot, so funny! And Mason, the flirty goof ball.
I cannot wait to get to some answers in book 2!!

The Ghost of You by Tori Fox a five-star read that will fix you. This is number one in the Broken Lyrics Duet and number two can’t come soon enough!!! Be prepared this will make you feel the physical ache the characters are going through when you read Noah and Anna’s stories. From the first page I was enthralled and adored the story, it wasn’t all drama and pain though there are some funny and quirky moments as well, it’s a great story and will definitely leave you wanting more.

I really enjoyed this book, it was easy to read and so enjoyable. I couldn’t put it down! This is the first book in the Broken Lyrics Duet and I can’t wait to read the next book as I want to know what happens to all of the characters. Can two people that have been so broken hearted and stuck in the past, come back to life and love again?

Anna and Noah are neighbours, but they only really know each other by sight. Even though Anna has admired him from afar, since she moved in just over a year ago.

Anna moved to Asheville to be nearer to her best friend Seraphina. Who owns a yoga studio where Anna works along with two other jobs she holds down in the evenings.

One particular night when Anna is working at “The Beer Garden” she gets hit on by a young drunk trying to kiss her. Noah her neighbour comes over to rescue her from the drunk. It turn out to be Noah’s youngest’s brother, they are out celebrating his 21st Birthday. Which now meant he’s actually drinking legally so Noah won’t have to arrest him as he is a cop.

Noah introduces Anna to another of his brothers, who is just about to opened up a recording studio. He invites her to the opening night and becomes shocked to find out that his brother knows exactly who she. He’s a big fan of her music and lyrics. He invites her back again later in the week to meet a friend of his and to have a bit of a jam session.

When Anna goes back to the recording studio it makes her realise how much she has missed playing and writing music. For the last seven years she has virtually stopped playing and only writing the odd bit of music on her own. After her first session she feels a kind of hope again.

All the while Anna and Noah are slowly becoming friends, they know that they have a connection but they both keep resisting each other. Are they going to get over their doubts and concerns? Will they both help each other to move forward?

This is a much shorter review than what I normally write and not as in-depth either. As the Autor Tori Fox has asked that reviewers don’t give everything away. So if you want to know everything in detail you’ll just have to get this book. You won’t regret it as its so enjoyable.

Both Anna and Noah are stuck. They have both suffered losses of different kinds in their lives and are having trouble moving forward. Being neighbors for a while, Anna has had a crush on Noah for a while, and Noah, being the good cop, has nothing but good manners for her, all very platonic, until it isn't. A series of incidents leads them to spend time together developing a "friendship" despite their age gap, but it's not long until other feelings begin to awaken, feelings that both didn't believe possible after being burned by the love before. Now they have to decide if what they feel is strong enough to leave the past and the pain behind them.

Tori Fox is a new author to me and the blurb didn't say much so I didn't know what to expect. Throughout the course of the book we can see how the relationship between these two characters flourishes, going from awkward moments, to funny situations to deep conversations about life. I was hoping to see a bit more development in their personalities and romance, but I think that has to do with the fact that this book is part of a duet and ends in a cliffhanger after a major reveal for the female lead, so I'm guessing the second part will contain like a healing journey for both of them where their relationship can be explored a little more.

Overall this was a steamy contemporary romance about losses, broken hearts, and second chances.

This was the first time reading this author and I enjoyed it. This book had great characters and an interesting storyline. I am a bit torn though as there were a few areas that it didn't flow as well as I had hoped it would.

The story starts out great, I found myself laughing at the first scene with Noah and his banter with his partner. Those moments stayed through the first portion of the book. However, it seemed to lose some of its luster after that for a portion of the book. the focus of the story came back towards the end. I wanted to know more about Anna and her backstory, especially in light of a major plot twist towards the end. Even though the story didn't flow as well as I had wanted it to in portions of the book, it still kept me reading which shows that this author is skilled. I will be looking to see what happens next and how this story ends.

Off-topic, this cover is gorgeous.

The Ghost of You is what you get when you mix the girl next door trope with an angsty slow burn. Two hurting souls find solace within each other. Anna and Noah are next door neighbors. Anna is a yoga instructor/bartender while Noah isa cop who hopes to become a detective someday. Although they are neighbors and Noah frequents one of the bars where Anna works they don't communicate much until the night her shower breaks. This incident is where the slowburn begins. I loved how these characters had depth to them, not only with the past relationship trauma but they seemed like real people. They had hobbies and complex family relationships. This book is the first of a duet, aptly named since Anna is a musician. The ending will have you looking for a time machine to figure out exactly how this story ends for these characters. If you're looking for a book with a protective guy and a sensitive girl who both has baggage due to their past relationships this book is for you!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 STARS

Tori Fox is a new to me author and I really enjoyed reading this book. The chemistry between Noah and Anna is palpable. Their story is a perfect slow burn. From the beginning of the book you can easily see that both of the main characters are haunted by the ghosts of their past and are unsure of whether they should do something about the connection they feel or if they are deserving of any happiness. I can't wait for the conclusion to the Broken Lyrics duet. The Ghost of You by Tori Fox is a MUST read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ELITE!!!

THE GHOST OF YOU was a wonderful surprise for me. This is the first book I have read by Tori Fox and I’m so glad I decided to give it a try, because this author knows how to weave a good story. The characters are complex and interesting and I was immediately drawn into their world.

Noah is a broody cop with ghosts from his past that has him stuck just going through the motions of his life. He lives next door to Anna, who also has lots of baggage from her past.

Noah and Anna bring out the best in each other as they slowly get to know each other and let down their guard. Sparks fly whenever these two are together, but they are careful with their hearts and it takes them a while for them to let go. They both have issues from their past they need to work through before they can move forward. Anna has just been surviving and Noah brings her back to life. They are two lost souls connecting and bonding and helping each other learn to enjoy life again.

I enjoyed all of Noah and Anna’s interactions, even though in the beginning, they were awkward together. This is a beautiful story and I thoroughly enjoyed Noah and Anna’s story. The only downside is it ends with a cliffhanger and I have to wait to find out what happens next. I enjoyed all the antics of Noah’s family, especially his five brothers. They are funny, add another dimension to the story and I hope there will be future books written about all of them. I enjoyed this intriguing story from start to finish.

Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book via Cocktails and Books and Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

This is a story about broken hearts that need to put their pasts to rest. Anna and Noah both have tragedy and betrayal in their pasts that is preventing them from moving forward. This story is very intense and is full of so much emotion. I really loved the storytelling. I was pulled into the story effortlessly. These are characters that I just wanted to hug to my chest. That cliffhanger really has me hanging on for the next book in this duet. If you love slow-burn romance with plenty of feels then this book is perfect for you!

A feel good story with a... wait... wheres the HEA! Anna and Noah both have sad pasts. Noah's wife just up and left him with only a note and no explanation. Anna's fiancee died in a car crash and she blames herself because she kicked him out. These two come together like fire and gasoline. Their attraction to each other is just that intense! Noah is afraid that she'll just leave him like his wife did. But to find out we have to wait for the next book!!! Such an amazing feel good read!

It's always a delight to find a new-to-me author that I can connect with and Tori Fox has been added to my list of authors to keep an eye on!

I thoroughly love stories where the characters have pasts that's still impacting them years later. As is the case for Noah and Anna, two neighbors that are basically going through the day to day motions. There's no denying the attraction between them, but there's also no denying the walls they both put up when it comes to relationships. I love that Noah is a cop and a sexy one at that. His brothers are an added bonus to the story and I hope (crosses my fingers) that the author considers a story for them in the future. I easily connected with Noah's character and to me he just had that personality that you couldn't help but love, including in the bedroom. Noah knows the right words to say, for sure! Anna was a little more guarded to me, and it took some time for me to make that connection. The ending though, did make me feel differently about her and I'm glad because with the story having a cliffhanger ending, I didn't want to have doubts about her going into book two.

I really wanted to give The Ghost of You five stars, and I struggled hard with this decision, but there were a few things in the beginning that kind of contradicted itself. Overall, I enjoyed the angst and how the author would toss in a bit of humor just to keep the story flowing. Tori Fox knows how to keep the reader focused and glued to the pages. If you're a fan of slow burn romances, you should definitely give this one a try!

OKAY. I WASN'T PREPARED FOR THAT ENDING.

This book is so good — I was able to finish it even if I got a hectic schedule. I miss reading like this. Fast-paced story, I couldn't put it down since I enjoyed reading it.

I was able to connect easily with the characters, especially Anna. I love the author's writing style, very simple and straight to the point. There's also a little bit of humor — I like Liam's character, I wish he had more exposure too. Taylor brothers are exceptional too! I like how each of them had different personalities shown in the novel. I'm hoping we get to see more of them on the next book, especially Everett.

“𝙈𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙘 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙚 𝙢𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙄 𝙣𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙.”

And that ending! Such a cliffhanger. I didn't expect that twist because I was almost at the end of the book and Tori's still able to pull that off! Seriously? haha.

Really, slow-burn romance novels are my cup of tea, and if you like this genre too — you need to read this!

Can't wait to start the next book 😭😍

4 1/2 Stars for these two broken hearts!

I loved Noah and Anna's story! Anna's fiancé died seven years ago while Noah's wife left him five years ago and neither one of them can move on. I loved how Noah and Anna are so opposite but they still have this intense attraction toward one another. And the story involves their families ... Noah is very close with all his brothers and Anna who talks about her family but never sees them.

Even though this is a heartbreaking story of lost loves, it made me laugh out loud. Where Anna sets up her two friends - who were once lovers - to meet again and she makes popcorn for the show that they are about to give ... still has me chuckling!

This book ends in a cliff-hanger ... and what a doozie! I can't wait the for the next book to see where Noah and Anna's story goes. I also sure hope that Noah's brothers all get their own stories because I know they all have a story to be told.

The Ghost of you by Tori Fox (Book 1 Broken Lyrics Duet) is about two broken people that not only find each other but themselves along the way.

Noah and Anna are neighbors who have both experienced the destruction of their perspective past relationships. Noah exudes everything his job as a police officer stands for. He is loyal, protective and determined. Anna is the artist of the duo, she is a song writer who has lost her way and has been working multiple jobs to support herself in the meantime.

The initial encounters between these two are sweet and endearing with some comedic relief built in. Their relationship slowly builds throughout the first half of the duet.

Tori Fox does a fantastic job of building these characters. They are so well defined, I felt as though I knew them. The dirty talking, bold Noah and the overtly shy and nervous wreck Anna. The man that is use to taking care of everyone finds someone who wants to care for him and the woman who runs away from everyone finds someone to chase her.

They open each other up. Cautiously they reveal their broken past and the reason behind their relationship fears. There is a gradual build to their relationship in this book with a deep progression to a meaningful relationship.

The various side characters of Noah siblings and Anna friends bring so much levity to the story, I look forward to every interaction with them.

This was a great first half and cannot wait to see what is the fate of their relationship.

The ghost of you is the story of two people who have lost the great love of their lives and are struggling to find their way in life since. Anna has left her family, moved and has put her love of music on hold and buried it deep. Her neighbor is changing things.

Noah lost his love a few years ago and was ghosted. He doesn’t want a relationship in fear of getting hurt. His cute neighbor is getting under his skin though.

Their friendship starts with a water explosion and a naked run in. From there is just gets better. The banter is great, the sad moments are touching, and their pasts are rough. Add in well meaning family a gay friend, and a date with the wrong brother makes it extremely fun to read. Of course it is Ends on a cliff hanger so can’t wait for the next one.

I loved this story of Anna and Noah. Both have had tragic life experiences, but there comes a time to put things behind you. It’s been 7 years for Anna and even though she wants to move on, the pain holds her back. It’s been 5 years for Noah, and he’s waiting...but remains aloof to life beyond work. Just when I thought there was a chance, the hateful claws on the past yanked one back.

Yes there was some hot moments, but there’s so much more depth to this story than just a romance. I’ve already downloaded the next one in the series!

Anna meets Noah after his brother Asher tries his charm on her.
She's working in a bar and as a yoga instructor, trying to keep busy from the hurt of losing Kyle 7 years ago.
He's a police officer with his own demons to fight his ex just left with no explanation.
This book is a first from the author and I enjoyed it very much, I have also got "The fate of us" ready to read asap.
