Will finding out the truth lead her to true love?

Alone in the world, Tae Holmes and her mother April pretty much raised each other, but as Tae starts asking questions about the father she's never met, April, for the first time in her life, goes silent. To make matters worse, Tae is dangerously close to broke and is saved by landing a contract with an adventure company for athletes with disabilities and wounded warriors.

While her first big fundraiser event falls flat, it brings Tae face-to-face with Riggs Copeland, the former Marine she hasn't seen since their brief high-school fling. Tae is still intensely drawn to him, but likes her past burned and buried. Hence their friendship pact.

When April oddly refuses to help Tae track down her father, Riggs comes to her aid. On a hunt to unlock the past, they find themselves on a wild ride and learn a shocking truth, while also reluctantly bonding. Now Tae must decide whether she's going to choose love . . . or walk away from her own happiness.

Fun second chance romance
When Tae mistakes a car for her Uber she doesn't expect to come face to face with Riggs, she hasn't seen him since high school, and she definitely didn't expect their night to take a turn after an incident at the grocery store.Riggs is back in town but only for the summer, he hopes to help his brother with their business and take a break after he just left the military and prepares for his next job. While he is in town Tae and Riggs have to work together and the proximity is bringing back memories and hidden feeling for both but Tae is looking for a long-term relationship while Riggs is only staying in town temporarily.Tae is questioning a lot of thing in her life, her father was a mystery for her whole life, she is ready to get some answers but her mother doesn't seem willing to help, she must find out on her own.I liked their chemistry and the romance a lot, the relationship proceed in a slower pace due to the uncertainties that surrounded them but it was very fun to see them rediscover their attraction.💗 I received an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

Tae is having a bad night. All she wants is to get her Uber. Although she is in the right place at the right time she gets the shock of her life when she gets into the wrong car and realises the driver is none other than Riggs, her one night stand from high school. Awkward!! He still cares for her and has never forgotten her. Their lives are set to collide again when they temporarily start to work together. Having both had a rough childhood Riggs doesn’t want to be the one that hurts Tae. His solution is friendship. It’s not long though before they become kissing friends then friends with benefits. But with the past hanging over their heads, will they have the courage to admit how they really feel about each other or will they end up breaking each others hearts?
This is a good second chance romance story. Gripped from the start I found it an emotional, sometimes heart stopping read that kept me on the edge of my seat.

Another great read from Jill Shalvis
  • Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 June 2022
I am a huge fan of Jill Shalvis and was thrilled to receive an early copy of The Friendship Pact. This is a small-town, second-chance romance, set in Sunrise Cove, Lake Tahoe, California. Each novel in the Sunrise Cove series is a standalone, so you don't need to worry about reading them in order.

Tae and her mother April have lived their lives teetering on the edge of poverty since April became pregnant with Tae at the age of fifteen - and was promptly disowned by her family. Twenty-seven years later, April and Tae are incredibly close, determined that nothing will come between them, until a chance remark by a stranger sets Tae on the trail of the father she thought was dead. She's helped on her quest by her ex-high-school boyfriend, Riggs, recently returned to Sunrise Cove to help his brother Jake run an adventure company for people with disabilities, including ex-soldiers - both Riggs and Jake are veterans.

Despite being intensely drawn to each other, Tae and Riggs agree to remain just good friends, but as they spend more and more time together, keeping their relationship platonic becomes impossible. Should they give up and have a short fling? After all, what could possibly go wrong?

The Friendship Pact is as much about family and friends as it is about romance. It is lovely to see the close bonds between Tae and April, and Riggs and Jake. But both Tae and Riggs have been hurt badly in the past, can they move on from that?

I loved the start of the story, where Tae, who is having a nightmare of an evening, accidently gets into Rigg's car, thinking he's a Uber driver, then walks straight into what appears to be a hold-up at a grocery story - all because she wants to drown her sorrows in ice-cream! Another favourite is the scene where Jake tries to teach Riggs about feelings: in particular, talking about them! It's both hilarious and touching.

The Friendship Pact is a feel-good romantic comedy about second chances and the importance of talking through problems, rather than trying to avoid them, and opening up emotionally - otherwise, how is anyone you care about going to know how you feel?!! It would suit anyone who loves romantic comedy with heart and fans of Sarah Morgan and Susan Mallery. The third story in this series, The Backup Plan, will be out in January 2023 - I can't wait!

Thank you to Jill Shalvis and Headline Eternal for my copy of this book, which I requested via NetGalley and reviewed voluntarily.

The Friendship Pact really gave me Gilmore Girls vibes - I loved learning all about the relationship between Tae (the main female character) and her mum, April. They’ve been through a lot together and their relationship faces challenges within this book.

I also enjoyed the romance between Tae and Riggs. Riggs has just retired from active service and is feeling a little lost. He’s back at the lake to visit and help his brother and the sometimes awkward moments between him and his brother felt very real.

Tae and Riggs knew each other as teenagers and this feels like a second chance for them. They’ve both got hang-ups and stuff going on - can they get past that and find happiness together?

The Friendship Pact is a stand-alone story but part of the Sunrise Cove series set around Lake Tahoe. The Lake setting and the events and activities that take place in the book make it a great read for the summertime.

What I like about this author is she is an easy read. I have pretty much read all her books except this serie and enjoy her writing. The subject is predictable with a bit of intrigue at Sunrise Cove. There is no association with the first book of the serie all new characters.

Far from being the author's best novel. The characters are sickening with good feelings. They're handsome, they're kind, they're bright, and they're attracted to each other right from the start. There is no plot and even less surprise. The heroine is painstakingly perfect, she's the kind of woman who only eats junk food but has a perfect body. All the men are burning with desire for her, we wonder why she is still single!
I couldn't get past the first half. I returned to the books of Penny Reid at least the dialogues are funny and the plots are surprising.
