Editorial Reviews
Legacy Recordings is proud to announce the release of The Essential Dixie Chicks, the career-spanning collection of chart-topping hits, classic tracks and personal favorites selected by the all-time top-selling female group. The Dixie Chicks are one of a handful of acts with multiple albums achieving “Diamond” sales status - both Wide Open Spaces (1998) and Fly (1999) hit that stratospheric landmark - and have won seven Grammy® awards. Their on-stage reputation has helped them sell over $100 million worth of concert tickets and sold out shows worldwide, and outspoken songs like “Goodbye, Earl” made it clear that this power trio played by nobody’s rules. This Essential 2-CD set includes all their biggest hits, including “Ready To Run,” “Not Ready To Make Nice” and “Landslide” and is a perfect representation of their career…so far.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2010I have long been a big fan of the Dixie Chicks. There isn't a song on any of their albums that I have not heard many times. Not a single song I wouldn't listen to again at the drop of a hat... In fact, you don't even need to drop the hat. These three women are possessed of beautiful voices, and they know how to harmonize them to produce the most wonderful results. Natalie Maines' strong lead voice sells each song, projects each message, each story. The tremendous, versatile musical talent and skill demonstrated by Martie Maguire Emily Robison combine with the lead singer to produce a body of work that is variably inspiring, touching, funny, sad, and in in its totality, sheer genius. It is not at all hard to see how this great trio has sold such vast numbers of albums, one so very many awards, and enjoyed tremendous concert success.
The album set includes an all too small selection from "Taking the Long Way," which is (sadly) the only new so we have seen from the trio since the well-known incident in London when Natalie foolishly spoke her mind. The shameful and un-American response to this by much of Country music, a substantial portion of Country radio, and various Conservative commentators has damaged immeasurably these three women being punished for speaking their minds. It seems there are some people who will eagerly support free speech, as long as the free speech agrees with them. Oh, sure, the other side of the political spectrum also speaks out loudly against public figures saying things they don't like. But that side has never perpetrated the kind of concerted and conspiratorial attacks... personal, physical, professional... that we have seen unleashed against the Dixie Chicks. Some people don't seem to understand what they should understand - if you disagree with someone, say so; but no decent American everperpetrates or condones physical or economic attacks in combination with others, especially while trying to hide behind the Flag they are self-righteously trampling.
This album, obviously, doesn't contain new material. But I bought it as soon as it was available, for two reasons. First, because any carefully selected compilation of the Dixie Chicks' is a treat unto itself, even if you have all the songs from their own homes sitting on your MP3 player or around the house. Secondly, because when we buy anything of theirs, we cast a "money where your mouth is" vote in support of American women having their say.
Pros: Two CDs full of the best of the best spending their musical careers.
Cons: Only two CDs.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2022I'm not a big country fan, but I love The Dixie Chicks along with a couple other country artist. And this essential album, it's a good buy. It has everyone of their hits from the albums Wide Open Spaces (1998), Fly (1999), Home (2002), and Taking the Long Way (2006). I love it, and it's some of the music genre I grew up around. I mean I grew up listing to Rap, Hip Hop, Rock, Indie Rock, a little Country, Latin, House/EDM, Disco, Music of Africa, K-pop, and so on. Thanks Chicks! I love this essential album!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2014I usually do pretty good on these kinda things, but the other day I bought digital music from A.com.
Started off pretty good, till I put my card # in and tried to download.
Well after 3 phone calls to some very short tempered customer service people and 2 hours later, I got my music, and it sounded great.
I guess I'll give it a good rateing...Even thought the first two reps we're rude, they did speak english. And now that I know how to navigate this very first time user unfriendly web site, it's a peice a cake.
I would highly recommend this site for all your download needs.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2022I've always liked the Dixie Chicks and this 2-cd set has just about all of my favorite songs from them. My car radio doesn't work so I've enjoyed listening to them while I'm driving around!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 29, 2022This is a terrific CD!! All the great songs and a great insert about the history of these talented ladies! If you like the Dixie Chicks, you won't regret buying this CD!!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2020Regardless of their political opinions I love the Dixie chicks and this is an awesome replacement CD for ones that I have worn out already. It has almost all my favorite songs on it. You could listen to every song all the way through the CD, instead of having to skip around like I do on CDs of other groups just to hear two favorite songs on one CD.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2023Am really enjoying hearing their music.
