So who murdered her Dad and was her mother's death a suicide like they said?

So who murdered her Dad and was her mother's death a suicide like they said?
Ellen Fisher arrived in town as a two year old with her Mom. They were headed to try and find her father who, after borrowing money but never giving it back--took off. They took a wrong turn and the car broke down. Luckily right near Frank's auto repair shop. It took a couple of days and they stayed with one of the women in town. As in any very small town there were gossips--and this town had a lot of them!Ultimately they went to live with Frank and were very happy. Not so much those women in town who all wanted Frank for themselves! Ellen's Mom had some kind of a total nervous breakdown and kept disappearing. Ultimately the state had her committed. Luckily Frank and Ellen really were like father and daughter. When her Mom died--she stayed with Frank.Of course the biddies in town were looking for anything to gossip about--and trouble a plenty occurred. Then her biological Dad came to town--more gossip as the woman all tried to grab him for their own---then he was murdered!!So who murdered her Dad and was her mother's death a suicide like they said--or another murder? There are twists and turns and several suspects. Would they get caught? Meanwhile would Ellen and Frank win the slow dance contest they were entered in?

Geez, as a man...I would like to move to this town. The male/female ratio is way outta whack. Ok...Seriously now.

Ellen is coming of age, and has been raised mostly by her stepdad, whom she adores, but refers to as Frank. Her mother has mental issues and as been confined for a long time to the mental hospital nearby. Just as the mother is nearing release she dies, and sets in motion the chain of events that lead Ellen's natural father to come in search of her-plot device #1. The second is Ellen and Frank are preparing for a dance contest, and their practice sessions, viewed by nosey neighbor ladies(who all coincidentially have the hots for Frank) are miscontrued as abuse. Allegations are made...PLot device # 2.

This book is really well written. The plot is well constructed and all the separate subplots come together at the end. The character developemeent is first rate, as is the dialogue. THe story is set in a small Texas town and the characters are simple folk. The dialogue suits these characters to a T.

Problems. Only a few and not enough to discount the rating.
    1. Slow starting and is difficult to follow the action early on. Be patient it gets better quickly
    2. A few mispelled, misused words. No big deal.
    3. Book ends very abruptly. This could have been handled better.

Bottom line- a nice read. Well worth your time.

A well written book with great characters and the plot was so easy to follow, and just flowed like a beautiful Southern song on the radio. The last quarter of this book I could not put down because it turned into a shocking thriller that made me want to finish it as fast as I could.

I just finished this book, and was SO disappointed in the ending, I couldn't give it 4-5 stars. The story line is great, I really enjoyed how the author fleshed out the characters, bringing the reader to like or dislike a certain character, then revealing their flaws that would change my mind about them. The suspense was built up to the point I was hurrying to find out which of the characters committed the crime/crimes. Then, boom, it was over, and although the author wrapped everything up neatly, I had many questions about where Frank and Ellen, Margo and the Sheriff's lives were going in this small town. Hopefully, Ms Jenkins has plans to take us there in her next book!

Seymour, AL. After digging around in medical & other files what did Alan Johnson (45) find out?
Cate Ashbury (landlady) let him a room at the Towering Pines Boarding House while he did more further/through investigations.
What were the past town rumors about Ellen Marie Fisher (15) & her stepfather Frank McPherson (widower, mechanic)?
Does Mary Cook (26) know something?

Warning: This book is for adults only & contains violent or graphic adult content or profanity &/or sexually explicit scenarios. It may be offensive to some readers.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. Wow, a very well written mystery (psychological thriller) book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

Frank MacPherson has raised his teenage stepdaughter since she was two years old. After his wife was institutionalized when Ellen was only five, the two became extremely close.

Unfortunately, in the eyes of some of the gossips in their small community, Frank and Ellen may be TOO close. An innocent interaction between father and daughter is misinterpreted by a passerby; the next thing they know, Frank and Ellen are terrified the life they cherish may soon be ripped apart.

In the meantime, a stranger named Alan Johnson arrives in town. While all the single ladies are swooning over him, Alan's really only got one thing on his mind - a 15-year-old girl named Ellen. And when the truth comes out, it may devastate both Ellen and Frank just as much as the false allegations swirling around them.

While Jenkins writes a great story, full of interesting characters in a compelling plot, the poor editing detracts greatly. There are literally dozens of mistakes in every chapter - along the lines of substituting "sight" for "site," omitting or adding a word, etc. It seems as though the author couldn't be bothered to actually have anyone read the manuscript prior to publishing.

It's true, I love the way Suzanne Jenkins writes a book. I've been addicted to her writing style since I picked up the first Pam of Babylon book and have read every book she's written.

The characters draw you in from the beginning. There are so many different personalities involved and mysteries galore. It's funny how you think you know the way a story is proceeding and then get blindsided with one of those twists that Ms. Jenkins is known for. That's the charm of her writing.

The setting of this book is in the southern part of the country and the way it's written you can even feel the oppressive heat emanating from the pages. You encounter the personalities of people who live in a small town and the way everyone is involved in everyone else's business and how rumors can destroy relationships and reputations.

I'm so glad I "discovered" this wonderful author and chomp at the bit until her next books are released.

This book was very interesting, I certainly could have read more though the ending was quite good letting the reader make some of our conclusions. A very well written book with well described characters showing their true natures. Plots like I have not read before come together to create a great tale.
