Slow Burn: Ladder 17 (Ladder 17: The Burn Series Book 4) Kindle Edition

3.4 3.4 out of 5 stars 35 ratings

Levi has been burned before, but Brynn is worth the risk of getting burned again.

Levi Holt

I have made a few mistakes in my life. Getting married to a woman who was never devoted to me was one of them. Letting go of the first girl who made me feel good after her was another. But finding the sweet little baby on my doorstep, with a note that she’s mine, is no mistake. I might not know how to do this single father thing, but I am going to do my best.

Brynn Gold

Coming to Chicago was a quick fix to a problem I couldn’t face. No one needs to know why I am not ready to go back. Especially not the tiny Princess that Levi convinces me to help him with. That adorable baby, and Levi himself, makes my heart burn with what I was forced to give up. Now I am not sure I deserve the fairytale Levi wants to give me.

If you love a sweet, strong, alpha men who will risk anything for their women, you’ve found the right men at Ladder 17!

These hotshot firefighters love as hard as they work, and they risk their lives for their work. The hot, growly, possessive men of Ladder 17 might seem like longshots when it comes to love. But they will do anything, be anything, for the women they love. Nothing is hotter than what burns between these men and their leading ladies!

Born and raised in the Midwest, reading and writing have always been Dee's passion. Short stories became long stories that finally, became books. While playing grownup during the day, meaning working a job, Dee wrote her first book. When not reading or writing, which leaves less time than she's proud of, Dee loves spending her time with her furbabies, her husband and lots of movies nights.

5 Stars! to Slow Burn (Burn Series #4) by Dee Ellis.

Can I just start by saying how in love I am with Levi!? These firefighters of Ladder 17 just get hotter and hotter (no pun intended), lol. While there are plenty of steamy scenes, there is a fantastic story to go along with them. Dee Ellis gets better and better as a writer with each book she writes. I am so glad to have been able to read all her work. If you haven't yet read any of the books in this series, you should grab them! While Slow Burn can be read as a standalone, there are plenty of moments where we get to interact with characters from the previous books.

    Levi and Brynn.....

I will do my best to keep details to myself. I would hate to spoil this treasure for you. Levi wants what his friends and coworkers have. He wants love and family. He deserves to have this. Levi is an amazing man. While he has a sensitive side, he is sexy and protective of those he loves. Levi tries to see the best in people. Unfortunately this has caused him to make mistakes. But sometimes, more often than not, good things come from mistakes. Levi knows what he wants now. He is going for it and he is going to make sure nothing gets in his way. God, this man...Levi is a total book boyfriend, totally swoon worthy.

Brynn was a fantastic heroine. She had her own issues to tackle but with Levi by her side, she wanted to try. Levi was good for Brynn in so many ways. He gave her his everything. Brynn's past was horrible. After reading about it, I was so impressed with her courage, strength and determination to free herself from that past. Levi and Brynn made a perfect couple. Their chemistry was magnetic and scorching. I loved the bit of angst and suspense thrown in as well. The characters had just enough complexity to them that gave this book even more depth.

The pace of this book was good. The writing flowed nicely and there was great tension. The end of the book was bittersweet for me because I hate to see this series end.

That said I totally recommend you check out this series! All four books are amazing!

This is my honest and unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time to read it.

Ummmm, I’m pretty sure I didn’t read the same story as the other reviewers. 🤔
Levi is definitely NOT my example of a good book boyfriend. He’s a weak douche. This whole review is a SPOILER...
From the reasoning behind marrying a badge bunny to try to tame her whore-ish ways (really didn’t need to read why he wanted the badge bunny...too descriptive for her not being the main character), to finding his soul mate in Brynn, but not telling her he was still married. Then when she finds out, he lets her go with minimal chasing. And for four months, he starts sleeping with other girls while waiting for her to forgive him. I COMPLETELY don’t understand that AT All. Brynn believes that he was sleeping around during those four months and from what I read, I’m pretty sure he was too. And, please ENOUGH with the “behave” “my king” and “my queen” constantly being said. I also didn’t need to to be hit on the head with the constant repetition that he turned to whiskey and blowjobs after catching his wife cheating. Like, that’s all he seemed to do. That and cry. Yes, I’m talking about Levi. And, omg, her issues with Boston and refusing to tell Levi was absolutely ridiculous. Even though I didn’t like Levi, I really detested Brynn for refusing to tell him that, because of her Boston problems, he and his daughter were at great risk. Brynn was entirely selfish and I was glad Levi kicked her out. Honestly, throughout this whole story, I felt like I was reading a train wreck. I kept hoping for better but it just kept getting worse. The ex-wife who keeps coming back. The constant “whore” references. The insane amount of NOT TELLING EACH OTHER important things. Just too much made up drama. This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Based on the other reviewers saying Levi is one of the better H in her books, I’m not inclined to read any of her other books. Sorry, this was a big NO for me.

This is the 5th book I've read written by Dee Ellis; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.

OMG!!!! These firemen just get hotter and hotter. Becuase I am not a friend of spoilers so I won't give anything away but what I can say is that you will not be disappointed. Levi is just the most sexy man and has become a dilf that you are all going to legit swoon over. He is probably the only one of the Ladder 71 men who actually wanted love, marriage, and children but he has drawn the short straw and things are just not how he wants them until his baby girl gets dropped into his lap. Brynn is such a strong woman who I have the biggest girl crush on, she has been through so much and still manages to smile and find happiness. I love all the men and woman of this series but Levi now holds a special place in my heart. This is the last book in the series and as all series come to an end, I can happily say that there is a sense of happiness and closure with how it all ends for not just Levi but all the boys and their leading ladies. Make sure to keep some ice cream or chocolate on hand and expect exploding ovaries and some serious swoonage.
