Luna Copeland lives by those rules, which complicates things tremendously when her new boss turns out to be a former one-night stand. As if that isn’t bad enough, he’s also a world-class jerk. But she just can’t make herself stop thinking about their one night together.
When Nate Warren left Whitecap years ago, he was certain he wouldn’t come back. But when his daughter starts acting up and getting into trouble, the small coastal town proves to be the best place for her. With an unruly teen on his hands, the last thing he has time for is romance. Unfortunately, he can’t get his sassy assistant out of his head.
When ignoring their attraction fails, Nate decides he wants all in. He just has to convince Luna she wants the same.
Born and raised around Houston, Jessica is a self proclaimed caffeine addict, connoisseur of inexpensive wine, and the worst driver in the state of Texas. In addition to being all of these things, she’s first and foremost a wife and mom. Growing up, she shared her mom and grandmother’s love of reading. But where they leaned toward murder mysteries, Jessica was obsessed with all things romance. When she’s not nose deep in her next manuscript, you can usually find her with her kindle in hand.

It was like (not love) for me, but there's a lot of good stuff going on in this fling to more romance. After one steamy night together, this couple soon realizes they're in over their heads when they become boss/assistant. I loved the sexual tension, and there are some really sweet moments between this single dad and his troublemaking teenage daughter. The story has an easygoing, small town feel, and I had no issues jumping right into the series - this easily reads as a standalone. With enemies to lovers vibes and a great office romance dynamic, this had the potential to be excellent. Unfortunately, this couple just doesn't spend enough time on the page together. After a brief (vaguely described) first interaction, they spend a lot of time off the page from each other and the story lost its momentum. I wanted more of a romantic feel mixed in with the hostility, and I didn't get that. But there's a lot to love here, and I enjoyed it overall.
The story follows Luna (29), a woman who has always been a hit it and quit it kinda girl. She's fully aware that she has mommy issues, so Luna intends to be single forever. When a sexy stranger walks into the bar she's tending, Luna knows that she wouldn't mind spending a night with the man - no need to exchange names or numbers. And what a night it is. A few weeks later, Luna is still basking in the glow of that night... until that stranger appears in her small town. Turns out, Nate (40) is a former local who is moving back home, and he's also the man Luna was hoping to start working for. The only problem? He's a lot less sexy when he's being an arrogant, dismissive jerk. But as the two get to know each other outside of the bedroom, it's not longer before Luna starts falling for both Nate and his daughter.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that only about a month has passed since Luna and Nate's encounter, so they're both still thinking back to that night when the book begins. Sounds like they certainly heated up the sheets! I also really liked the single dad element; the best part about Nate is his softness around his (adopted) daughter. There's a great subplot about found family and moving forward after past troubles, which was nice to read. The main issue for me was that I didn't particularly care about Nate OR Luna; Luna is determined to keep her heart out of the equation, and Nate is intentionally pushing her away. I needed more time with them together, actually having non-work or daughter-related conversations and getting to know each other. That was definitely lacking for me. But I liked almost everything else, and I had no trouble bingeing this in one sitting.
Luna's rules are in place for a reason. She doesn't need or want some grumpy jerk boss coming around and making her want to break those rules. But's that's what Nate's doing, and she's not sure she can withstand the things he and his angry but lovable daughter are making her want. Things like the warmth and comfort commitment and a real relationship bring. Luna will have to take a leap and trust that Nate will take gentle care of her wary heart.
Nate came back because he wanted what was best for his daughter. But there's a certain assistant of his that's messing with his head. She's bonding with his daughter and making him think of forever. How can he get his prickly Luna on the same page? Get her to see that loving him and his daughter means happiness, not the pain her mother's treatment makes her think love means?
Whew, Luna and Nate were a rollercoaster! Lots of heat, but even better, lots of heart. Nate was angry but so was his daughter. Put them with sassy, independent Luna whose walls were stronger than Fort Knox, and what the combination meant was another great Whitecap love story. I can't wait for the next couple in this excellent series.
ARC provided by Love Affair With Fiction for an honest review.
Abandoned by her father, and raised by her barely there, toxic mother, Luna plans to never fall in love and be in a long term relationship. It would only lead to hurt and she is determined to have nothing to do with that. Her life plans have fallen astray when she finds her business going belly up in her small town and prospects dim. To keep things going, she takes a job as a bartender in a dive bar in the next town over. In walks a gorgeous stranger one night that she has instant chemistry with and after determining he wasn't local, she goes back to his hotel with him for a single night of fun. Imagine her surprise when a month later they cross paths and it turns out he is the son of her friends, and the only possible good job prospect she has had in a while. This time around, Nate and Luna spark but in all the wrong ways. Nate is unwilling to hire Luna since he won't mix business with pleasure. Unfortunately for him, things happen and he is forced to hire Luna and thus begins their dance around each other.
Jessica Prince is a master at small-town, enemies to lovers romances. I definitely enjoyed this one. Although Luna and Nate have a one night stand early on, this is still very much a slow burn romance. We read about them making plans for the night together, and then the aftermath the next morning, but nothing of what happens when they hit the sheets. I kind of wish we had seen just a little bit of that - even if it's just them first kissing or touching - because it left me not feeling the chemistry and heat until much later in the story. Despite that, I still really enjoyed this story and can't wait for the next in the series!
I swear I needed a hit of some goodness today and this baby gave me that and then some. It hit all the right buttons for me, even the eye rolling ones, and left my cheeks sore because of all the grinning I ended up doing as Luna and Nate danced around and finally towards each other.
Luna and Nate definitely kept me on my toes and I adored them for it. Luna is vivacious, kind and sassy, but she’s built walls around her heart and has a difficult time asking for help. Nate has a bit of a chip on his shoulder, but he’s also got a good heart and once he relaxes, is a lot of fun to be around.
Their journey to their HEA was definitely a fun one. The whole “you were only supposed to be a one night stand” thing ended in a way I wasn’t expecting but how Luna got her job with Nate was even more unexpected, but actually kinda brilliant. The chemistry between them was intense from the start and only got stronger the more time they spent together and when you add Evan (as well as their friends and family in Whitecap) to the mix, and well, they had no choice but to fall and fall hard.
This was a great addition to the Whitecap series, and the Hope Valley World. The pace of the story was great (I finished it basically one sitting) and I loved the multiple POV’s. But most of all, I simply loved hanging out with the Whitecap crew. Getting to catch up with Cheyanne, Trent and Renee and hang out with Mon, Sam, Georgia and Dezzy was so much fun. And then there was Evan. She had her moments, but she is definitely one to watch out for and maybe one day she’ll get her own HEA.
Luna Copeland doesn't do relationships. In fact, she avoids getting involved with any man who resides in her beloved small town of Whitecap. And while she has so far succeeded in sticking to her one night only arrangements, Whitecap's newest resident is about to turn her world upside down...
Nate Warren left Whitecap in his rearview mirror years ago, but as a recently single father, the tight knit, small town community is just what he and his emotionally floundering daughter need. But something that Nate could do without? An ultra-hot one night stand turned into one serious complication...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My Perfect Enemy was a super sexy and heartwarming, enemies to lovers, romcom! Luna and Nate once shared a night that neither one of them could forget... but when their chemistry turns to animosity? The banter alone will get your heart racing...
Luna and Nate shared one fantastic night together. Not only was the sex amazing, but they really hit it off with each other. That is, until the cold reality sets in and they soon realize that they live in the same small town... and avoiding each other is going to be categorically impossible...
I loved this book so much! Luna was a guarded woman who refuses any idea of a relationship after watching her mom waste her life on men. She was funny and sweet, and refused to let Nate win any argument, ever.
Nate never thought he would live in Whitecap again, but when his daughter started acting out, he knew that the small town he grew up in would help set her straight. I adored his devotion to his daughter, and his growth when it came to accepting his new life. But my favorite thing about Nate was his attempts at keeping Luna at arms length, only to fail... miserably.
I am absolutely loving the Whitecap series! This small town cast of characters is always looking out for each other, and taking care of its own, while pushing its single residents into finding (and accepting) their chance at happily ever after...
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review
Luna is living in a small town called whitecap, working in a dive bar she never expected to be working in, her personal ventures had taken a turn for the worst. She has sworn of ever falling in love & having a relationship due to her not so great mother.
In walks Nate Warren whitecaps own, he came back to town with his teenage daughter in tow. They needed a change to help his daughter & her troubled path. Nate walks into the dive bar & finds something he never expected. Straight away there’s chemistry of a small conversation & a one night stand that should of stayed at that.. but as small towns go everyone’s inter joined some how.. fall in love with Luna & Nate.
Will they get a HEA? Or will head strong Luna be too much for Nate
Another awesome love story keeping you on your toes by Jessica Prince! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jessica Prince is back with the next standalone in the Whitecap series. Y'all, I'm pretty sure Jessica owns a *queen* title in the small town romance trope because of beauties like this right here. My Perfect Enemy was everything I needed it to be.
Gaaaahhhh. My heart, it fell hard and fast for these two. Luna and Nate were everything in soooo many moments, along their journey and y'all, just wait until you dive headfirst into their story.. unforgettable nearly every step of the way.
So so good and unputdownable on nearly every page. I cannot wait for the next in this series y'all.. well really just the next book and swoony love story from Jessica.
Luna lives in the small town of WhiteCap, she has her dream home, however unfortunately the same can’t be said for her career, her own personal venture took a turn for the worst and she’s found herself working in a dive bar in order to pay the bills. The relationship she has with her mother isn’t what you’d call the greatest, in-fact it’s the reason why she’s sworn off falling in love let alone relationships. When she sees a tall handsome stranger walk into the bar one evening looking all out of place in his designer clothes, she engages him in conversation, straight away sparks fly, when he asks her what her plans are after work, and she discovers that he’s got a room at the Boardwalk Inn, she feels secure enough in the knowledge he’s just passing through that that she agrees to meet up with him back at his room, the pair don’t even exchange names when they spend the night together, parting ways in the morning, never expecting to see one another again. But as it goes in typical small towns, everyone’s connected in some way or another, and Luna’s about to find out just how connected to Whitecap her ‘one night stand’ is.
Thanks to the troubled path his daughter was heading down, Nate Warren’s back home in Whitecap, the place he’d left many, many years before, his parents are over the moon to have him and their granddaughter Evan set up home in town. Nate’s a Lawyer, he’d visited the previous month looking for a place to set up shop in town, as well as a place to stay, whilst passing through he’d spent the night with a gorgeous redhead who bailed on him the following morning. So you can imagine Nate’s surprise when he finds the mysterious redhead now working at his parents' general store, Luna is just as surprised to discover the fact that the town's prodigal son who’s come home is none other than the one night stand she can't stop thinking about.
Will they acknowledge their feelings towards one another? Or will headstrong Luna push Nate away at every opportunity? Join them and Evan on their journey of self discovery, with the hopes of reaching their own Happily Ever After.
Sometimes I feel like a broken record when reviewing a Jessica Prince book. How many times can you say that each time she releases a book, it becomes your favorite? I guess the answer to that is – however many she chooses to write, because every single time it’s the same thing – I think I couldn’t possibly love a book more than the last release and then, bam – she proves me wrong.
I’ll admit, I’ve been waiting (not so) patiently for Luna’s story since she released Crossing the Line and she was introduced as Cheyanne’s bestie. I knew that whoever caught her eye was going to have to be amazing with a capital A….and I was right. Nate and his moody fourteen year old daughter, Evan, have moved home to repair their bond and get her out of a less than stellar group of “friends.” Unbeknownst to Nate and Luna, they run in the same circles in Whitecap so it was perhaps an ill advised one night stand they enjoyed. But was it really ill advised or fated as the start to their love story?
As I always say, Jessica Prince writes fantastic secondary characters. Evan made me so mad at her and then she made me want to cry for her. Her relationship with Luna is almost as fabulous as Luna’s relationship with Nate, which is truly a testament to Jessica Prince’s talents. I loved seeing Chey and Trent again and the Warrens, who truly helped Chey when she had no one, are central to the plot as Nate’s parents.
All in all, this is one book you CANNOT miss. While its not a necessity to read Crossing the Line, I always recommend reading a series in order to get the full appreciation for it! Either way, READ THIS BOOK – you’ll thank me!
One of my guilty pleasures is watching two people, that have chemistry, set up rules and then try to adhere to them. I love to watch them fall. That is precisely what happened here with Luna and Nate.
In usual fashion, this author has made me fall deeper in love with the places that she creates. She is able to do that by showing how authentic and real small towns are and the people that inhabit them. Having always grown up in the city, it is always refreshing to go to a place that focuses on what is important instead of getting lost in the craziness of a world that is racing by. That isn't to say that there isn't drama in small towns but what there is, seems to just be taken in stride. I liked that reminder in this book (when Luna explained it in a pivotal scene that small things to someone else might actually be life-altering-- it made me really think long after I finished that moment). I, also, related to the importance of family and knowing that one isn't confined to loving someone just because they are blood. As a child that went through the system and then later became adopted at the age of nine, I struggled with this concept and the guilt of why my mother was the way that she was. It took years of therapy before I realized that my chosen family is even more special.
I loved Luna and Nate together. As I mentioned, I love it when they fall, and boy did these two fall. I really liked Evan in this too. I liked seeing her growth. I do wish that there had been more moments of the three of them together as the relationship progressed. The ending came up pretty fast too which could be because I wasn't ready to stop reading about these amazing characters.
I highly recommend this author and this series to anyone that loves small-town romance, a great plot, and just the right amount of steam.
I love starting a new Jessica Prince book because I know I’m going to get lost in her characters and their story. I’ve been looking forward to Luna’s story when I met her in Crossing the Line. This book is so freaking good I read it in one sitting!
I love Luna and her strength and independence even if it does make some of her friends mad because she doesn’t want to ask for help from anyone. And when we learn about her growing up, it just made me love this girl so much more because she’s come out on the better side of life! And when Luna’s at a really low place she decides to throw caution to the wind one night and has the best night of her life with a sexy stranger never expecting to see him again.
When Nate and his daughter Evan move back to Whitecap the last thing on his mind is getting into a relationship even though he can’t forget his night with the beautiful woman form a couple months ago. Little did either of them know that their lives are going intersect!
I adored Luna’s sassiness and confidence and when it comes to not only getting what she wants…. Working for Nate as his assistant even though he’s not that keen on seeing her every single day… but fate has other plans when his daughter gets involved!
There are so many moments to love about this book… the passion between Nate and Luna, the repairing of Evan and Nate’s father daughter relationship, coming to terms with a past that’s so painful it brought tears to my eyes, the connection between Luna and Evan and above all the healing power of true and unending love. This is a perfect addition to this series and I can’t wait to see what’s next!!
From the moment I started this book, I just couldn't put it down. I've read it in one night. Who needs sleep when you have this beauty to make you company and make you happy?
I feel like a broken record, but this book warrants I say it again: Jessica Prince is my go-to author, and for good reason. Whatever she writes, I know I'll love it, and it most definitely wasn't different this time. There wasn't one single thing I didn't love about this book.
The coziness of Whitecap enveloped me in a warm cocoon. The secondary characters were absolutely adorable. They were funny, good-hearted people that embraced and protected their own (and gossiped like hell) as only a sweet, small-town can grant.
The love story was amazing. Luna and Nate were so sexy and their chemistry was so sharp and good. Even trying to push each other's buttons (actually, especially during those times), their connection sparked and their feelings were consuming them both.
And Evan was beautifully written. A total brat at the beginning, she made Luna and Nate's life a living hell. And I loved it. I loved how difficult she was, how relatable that made her, and how sweet and confused she was underneath her aloof and too-cool-to-be-here façade. Nate's devotion and patience toward her and Luna's understanding were riveting.
Their dance around her was delicate and beautifully written, and I was sad to see this book come to an end. I need more.
I hate to say it, but i really struggled with this book, which makes me so sad because I LOVED the first book in this series. I adored Luna in "Crossing The Line" but here she was just so darn judgy. Like in the first chapter she's going on and on about how working in that bar is so beneath her and everyone that's there are just low-life meth heads with bad teeth. And look, maybe I'm sensitive because I hate the way my own teeth look and I don't have the money to fix them (which side note: how ridiculous is it that dental health is so expensive? And that you need separate insurance for your mouth bones. Scam.) Anyways I just didn't connect with her, or her relationship with Nate. They didn't even really become a couple until the very end, and most of the time they were hating each other or denying what they felt, which made it really hard to care for them.
I didn't mind Nate, but I was more invested about him and his daughter than him and Luna. They were the only bright spots for me in this book, and I loved seeing them repair their fractured relationship.
Overall this isn't an overly bad book, it just wasn't for me. I hated how judgey Luna was, and I wished there was more time spent exploring the emotional aspect of their relationship. It wasn't a bad, just not my favorite from this author.
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions**
Oh, boy. Luna has rules. Nate has anger and derision. Evan has attitude and teenage angst. When the three intersect, it’s a recipe for disaster. Or is it? Because Luna’s rules may get broken. Nate wears some emotions like a cape. And Evan has so many valid reasons for her behavior (well, most of it) that I had to like her. Especially when we learn some of what’s going on behind the scenes. But can they still find happiness, or will hearts shatter instead?
I was supremely angry at Nate a few times. I won’t lie. But his attitude made a bit of sense as I got to know what drove him. And I understood Luna’s fears oh so well. It actually made her more likable because it helped her and Evan bond, helped Evan find a purpose and outlet for her frustrations, and showed Evan that there is so much more to life when a family doesn’t have to fit the standard dynamic. And when lush comes to shove, I can’t hate Nate. I had to respect and like him so much more for not hiding his feelings. For not pretending he could settle for less. And especially for staying true when all looks bleak. Luckily, he and Luna found their way…with Evan’s genius mind and logic. So now I wait for more of this series. Because I’m loving our time in this town oh so much and need to see what comes next.
Luna Copeland is faltering, her business is not doing as well as she had hoped and is having to moonlight as a bartender out of town. When Nate Warren steps into the seedy bar she works at she knows he is out of place and that he has the world sitting on his shoulder. One thing leads to one night, a fantastic night but Luna knows she will never see him again until she finds out he is the long lost son from Whitecap and has relocated his business to Whitecap. Luna needs a job, Nate is hiring but he rejects her application. Heated words prevail, but the reason Nate moved was for his teen daughter who has been acting out and she has a new target Luna. Maybe fate is at play and it keeps throwing Nate and Luna together, could they find themselves being each others happily ever after?
This was terrific. Full of humor, heartache and small town feelings. I thoroughly enjoyed, the chemistry between Luna and Nate is out of this world. Luna is gun shy about getting involved with anyone long term, her past defines that. Nate doesn't need the complication of Luna and is trying to focus on his daughter, but Luna consumes him. Another fantastic book by this author.
Whitecap Series Book #2: My Perfect Enemy by Jessica Prince Trope...
OMG! I really tried to write a respectable review... but C'MON! I FINISHED THE MOST WONDERFUL BOOK! I just can't control my feelings right now! WOW! ABSOLUTELY WOW!
Luna works in a shitty bar and when Nate wants to drink a beer there... sparks fly everywhere! They spent a passionate night together. Luna has rules. Never get involved with a local and never fall for the enemy. Can she really stick to her rules with Nate being the new lawyer in town... and her boss?
Ha! READ THIS BOOK AND FALL IN LOVE! Awwwwww! Jessica Prince is the master of enemies-to-lovers! Well for me she is it! It's my favourite trope and OMG! THIS CHEMISTRY! WOW! The attraction between Luna and Nate was so palpable that my kindle melted... more than once! Phew! Luna is this strong and independent, young woman and Nate is a hooot single dad! Awwww! Okay he's so much moooore! And Luna as well! I don't wanna reveal too much! Just let me tell you: I loved their beautiful love story! 😍 ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! ❤
I really enjoy this author and loved the first book in this series. This one, however, was not one of my favorites, primarily because I just didn't like Nate for a big chunk of the book. He was total jerkwad to Luna and said some very offensive things. And Luna is so proud that she didn't ask her friends for help, so I had a hard time believing that she would even consider working for Nate, no matter how desperate she was. Thus, the circumstances of their relationship felt a bit forced for me. Aside from that, I liked Luna a lot, and I loved her interactions with Evan. I guess the bottom line is that I don't care much for the enemies-to-lovers trope, so the issue is my own. If you are a fan of this trope, then you'll want to get your hands on this one because it's well written, with well-developed characters, a nicely paced plot, and some laugh-out-loud moments mixed in.
A sincere thank you to the author for providing an ARC for review.
Luna and Nate… started off as just two strangers at a bar then it turned into an assistant/boss relationship. Two of my favorite parts is when Nate calls her moonbeam (want to name my kids Luna for them to have that awesome nickname) and when Luna kind of blackmails him to get a job.
Luna’s rules were a little much but I like how Nate didn’t really want to give up. I kind of like it when I read a book and he start to have feelings before the girl but that is just me. LOL
Whitecap is just another exciting city for Jessica to write about and there are a few characters that I am extremely excited to read about.
The book seemed to go really quickly, I thought it was a tad short but I enjoyed it and re-read it at least 5 times. Jessica didn’t disappoint. Can’t wait for more.
Let me start by saying this book is now my favorite by Jessica, There were so many things in it that really hit home for me. ** Spoiler Free Review** Luna Copeland is absolutely amazing. I loved how badass she is. And that's all because she had to earn to take care of herself at a really early age. She has all these rules to protect her heart not giving anyone except her best friends a chance. If you didn't notice she was beautiful woman you would think she's a guy.... Then one night working a sleazy bar a tall, dark and sexy stranger walks in. This man is going to be a game changer..Maybe? Now here's the part that hits me with all the feels. Nate Warren, he moves back t where he grew up with his daughter in tow. She's 14 and hell on wheels.
✨ ARC Review ✨ *** Thank you to Love Affair with Fiction and Jessica Prince for the ARC to review. *** My Perfect Enemy was so good. I loved the characters and the writing so much. I felt all the feels with this story. This book had it all. Enemies to lovers, single dad trope, office romance, small town romance, MC who refuses to fall in love, lots of banter, and off the charts chemistry. The characters were perfectly written. Luna and Nate were a match made in heaven. I loved their relationship and constant arguing. Evan stoled my heart and I am so happy she got her happy ending. The ending was perfect and left me with a huge smile. *** ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
As customary for every Jessica Prince book, this one was a quick read that I simply could not put down.
Luna has issues with relationships because her mom never prioritized Luna over her own relationships. Luna has a strict love ‘em and leave em one and done rule that she breaks for no man.
That is until Nate crashes into her life. Her world is turned upside down, she can’t tell what’s right from left, all she knows is she can’t stop thinking about him.
This book was such a sweet read. Full of amazing side characters, emotional maturity, and a love that’ll last forever.
This book was so good! Luna had me fighting tears at times with the way she was treated by her mom throughout her life. Nate, oh Nate could he be any sweeter! This guy had attitude but once you got past that he was so swoony! He is a great dad, sweet & $exy. The chemistry was smoking between these two even before the give into it. Evan is a typical teenager, but the connection between her & Luna just adds to this great story. I couldn’t get enough of this book. I highly recommend this book. Told in dual POV.
Luna has rules, and she never breaks them. Never date a local. Never Fall in love. She was doing great following her rules. Well that was before she met Nate.
Nate comes home to Whitecap, a place he said he’d never come back to. Nate needed help with his rebellious teenage daughter, and small town living was the way to go.
After one amazing night, Luna never thought she’d see Nate again.
I finished this baby in 1 sitting, I just couldn’t put it down. I keep saying Jessica Prince knows how to write small town romances and I am not wrong! Their story is just beautiful. Luna is just amazing and how she is with Nate's daughter, Evan is just…WOW. Nate is such a great father to Evan, he is trying to help her through her tough teenage years. The chemistry between Luna and Nate is off the charts!!!!
I didn’t know I needed this book as much as I did. Can’t wait for more Whitecap stories!
Luna and Nate have a one night stand and never intend to see each other again. Nate just moved with his teenage daughter and has a lot going on. Luna is struggling to keep herself above water. It's not a good time for either one of them to start a relationship. But they find themselves thrown together, and Luna builds a rapport with Nate's daughter. ... This was a good story, with the noticeable absence of some real chemistry between the two main characters, at least not for the majority of the book. 3½ stars
