Editorial Reviews

John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant came together in 1968 as Led Zeppelin. Over the next decade, the band would become one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, selling more than 300 million albums worldwide. Their songs are some of the most celebrated in rock n roll history that, to this day, resonate with fans young and old around the globe. Still, no matter how many times you may have listened to their music, you ve never heard Led Zeppelin like this before.

With the 2014 release of deluxe editions of
Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, & Led Zeppelin III, the band will launch an extensive reissue program of all nine of its studio albums in chronological order, each remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. Led Zeppelin will also open its vaults to share dozens of unheard studio and live recordings, with each album featuring a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.

"The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin, " says Page. "It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions, and new material recorded at the time."

Following the whirlwind success of their first two albums and near constant touring, Page and Plant took to the now famous Bron-Yr-Aur cottage in Wales in 1970 to start the early composition of
Led Zeppelin III. They later convened with Bonham and Jones for rehearsals before entering London s Olympic Studios to begin recording in May 1970. Fueled by classic tracks such as "Immigrant Song" and "Since I ve Been Loving You, " the album soared to the top of charts worldwide upon its release in October of 1970 and has since been certified 6x platinum.

The nine tracks featured on
Led Zeppelin III s companion audio continue to offer a window into the band s recording process with seven studio outtakes of songs from the album as well as three previously unheard compositions: "Jennings Farm Blues" (an instrumental forerunner of "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp"), "Bathroom Sound" (an instrumental version of "Out On The Tiles"), and their take on the blues classics "Keys To The Highway/Trouble In Mind. "

Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for its pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. Founding members Jones, Page and Plant along with Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham took the stage at London s O2 Arena in 2007 to headline a tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun, a dear friend and Atlantic Records founder. The band was honored for its lifetime contribution to American culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. In January of 2014, the band won their first ever Grammy award as Celebration Day, which captured their live performance at the Ertegun tribute concert, was named Best Rock Album.

Gift for my son. He said the sound quality was great.

It's remarkable that Jimmy Page is able to re-master Led material and achieve a sound quality that current artists with the best technology don't. (This is the LP, which is audiophile quality vinyl.) Every instrument is clear and balanced in the sound field, especially the drums. Robert Plant's voice cuts through...well, everything, shrieking, moaning, whispering, a master's lesson about feeling what one is singing.

And the songs seem still current. Led III puzzled fans when it was released, which is understandable after the fiery first two albums. But listening now, it's clear Jimmy was doing something that was going to change rock music, bringing in folk (That's the Way) and Celtic elements (Gallows Pole) along with more familiar blues (Since I've Been Loving You, still one of the coolest blues songs ever) and sharp-edged rock (Immigrant Song). It all sounds fresh 45 years later.

The added disk of 'new' material is a nice addition. Hearing early versions helps to understand how the band continued to develop material for final release. The instrumental versions awaiting Robert Plant's vocals sound almost like a jazz trio. Once again I could appreciate how all four were remarkable musicians, mixing together effortlessly.

And, OK I'll admit it: the entire package is worth it for the Plant-Page duet of 'Key to The Highway,' which was not on the original album. Just two artists in the studio doing an old Bill Broonzy number because they felt like it. Awesome. I had no idea Robert Plant could play such fiery blues harmonica. I wish he had done it more.

Well done. Lesson for current artists: hold onto all the tapes (or files) from your recording sessions. Someday you might need them.

Cheaper price for led zeppelin vinyl! Would recommend buying on Amazon instead of any other websites shop!

The quality of these Vinyl records is superb! its plays with no background noise and has the "companion disc" which is a must have! Fantastic sound quality and well presented with attention to all the background.

The cover for this album was creased and the spine split, the back cover had creases just not good enough at the QC stage, shame also the inner sleeves are very cheaply made and not up to the job.
I have original 40 year old "plastic bags can be dangerous" sleeves in my Zeppelin collection that put these to shame, again this needs sorting out as it spoils what is a great release which I pre ordered in March.
I also bought the 1 and 2 Remastered and they are faultless, only the poor inner sleeves let these down.
come on Plant and Page someone approved these!

Hitting that fifth star makes quite a statement. I don't think any rock music fan will debate that Led Zeppelin is one of the best bands of the genre. But when III starts playing, with the barrage of riffs and the howling vocals it stirs your soul. What follows are some of the most diverse and affecting songs of their career. The second side of the album shows that Jimmy Page is one of the most diverse players in rock. He slows it down and shows his acoustic mastery along with his earth shattering riffs. The vinyl packaging is unique and the second record of out takes shows the evolution of these masterpieces. Is this their best album? That's a matter of opinion. Is this product worth adding to your collection? No doubt.

I love this album. The bonus disk is good but the bonus material on the 1st one is the best. You can kind of skip it, honestly. There was a long wait for this version. For some reason they didn't press enough of this bonus version and you couldn't get it anywhere. It took like two months to get this. I suggest with further reissues, put your order in early to be sure to get it. In any case, the remastering is beautifully done and the detail in the tracks is great. You can't go wrong with this. In fact, I find myself listening to this album the most of the three reissues. Just a great album!

Awesome remastering job by Jimmy. 180g sounds amazing. Such an improvement over my older 80s regular vinyl copy. Bonus alternate versions on 2nd lp are different enough to warrant inclusion, especially if you are extremely familiar with the originals. Interesting insight, and knowing we likely won't see any new Zep tunes, this is as close as you can get. Stripped down compared to I and lI. Recommended.
