Product description
Sparks,Jordin ~ Jordin Sparks
Amazon.com
Liking Jordin Sparks, American Idol's season six winner, comes instinctively. How many 17-year-olds are as self-possessed, as big-smiling, as committed to having a good time and keeping it real? Probably none. Liking Sparks' music has been a different story for fans anticipating her debut CD, though. Her gut-busting Idol performance of "I (Who Have Nothing)" was possibly her only prime-time goosebump generator, yet she's seen an instant progression to diva-dom, as chronicled in reports that found her heading into the studio alongside pop/R&B heavy-hitters Bloodshy, Avant, the Underdogs, and others. Was it a little soon for the relatively green Sparks to be throwing off such big-league, beat-heavy sparks? Well, not hardly, it turns out. The ballads here--songs like "Next To You" and "Just For the Record"--reach out at times with overeager sincerity (forgivable!), but the funkier numbers--"Young and In Love" and the Prince-flecked "Shy Boy," especially--slam home her positives. Jordin may still be a juvie, but she's a bona fide pop star. She earns her props as convincingly here as she did on TV. --Tammy La Gorce

- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2008I bought this cd because of my granddaughter, she wanted it and so I decided to buy it. I loved Jordin on American Idol and thought wow does she have a voice. Well as I listened to it I just fell in love with her songs. I am not a fan of pop music, country music for me. but folks I have to say, this is one cd even a country music fan can enjoy. As I listened to her songs, and the sound of her voice she really put her heart into it. I can't single out one song on this cd because all of the songs are great. After listening to her cd, I guess you could say its time for me to listen to pop music again and expand my music collection.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2007I was not into American Idol much. But a friend of mine suggested this CD while it was on the pre-order list. When I finally got it, I did not even want to hand it over to my friend. Her voice is incredible. The music she sang suited her and it was a welcome change from all the Rihanna- and Beyonce-type music on the market right now. Jordin should continue on the path that she is on. She is definitely a breath of fresh 'Air'.

With songs for just about any type of listener r&b, pop whatever you like it's here. Uptempo songs (One Step At A Time, Young and In Love), ballads (No Air w/Chris Brown, Next To You), midtempo songs (Shy Boy, Tattoo).
Its good all around with only one track that i didnt care for aside from that. It's an album that should please her AI fans and folks looking for a little something else as well.
Favs:
No Air (Duet w/Chris Brown)
One Step At A Time
Tattoo
Permanent Monday
Just for the Record
Shy Boy
Freeze (nice beat to this one that i love)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2009Jordin Sparks' self-titled debut album is a great start to her singing career. She sounds amazing on every song and doesn't over do it. The album is very enjoyable and the songs will get stuck in your head causing you to sing them over and over again. I definitely recommend this album to others and I know that this is not the last we will be seeing of Jordin Sparks in the years to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2008This is an amazing debut album. For a just-turned 18-year-old, Jordin has the vocal abilities of a honed professional. This album is so versatile in styles of song and Jordin can hit notes at every end of the music spectrum and send chills up and down your spine. She is an amazing talent! Looking forward to more from this winner! Fantastic job, Jordin Sparks! Keep the music coming....
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2012How can I be nice about this? I really do like Jordin. She's beau-tee-ful and she can sing her butt off. I wasn't exactly thrilled that she took the crown as 2007's American Idol though because Lakisha, Melinda or Mandisa outsang her like every time. HOWEVER. That was like 5 years ago...She could still sing pretty well, she was prettier than those ladies and seemed far more marketable. Guess I have to get over it. The real reason I am giving this album the score I am is because I listened to it. A few times.
Let's start with the good, shall we?
"No Air" is probably the winning contender for best song. Featuring the then beloved Chris Brown, I swear I was in love from the moment I heard that ballad/midtempo. Its airy, space-like production makes me melt and it features belting from both singers. Probably her best song to date.
"One Step At A Time" kinda goes back and forth lyrically. Not in quality but it switches between two ideas (ex: "You believe/And you doubt. So confused/You got it all figured out".) and surprisingly works well as a very solid, upbeat and inspiring number. I liked it a bit back in the day but love it now.
"Freeze" was the next standout. This track surpised me. The production is cool and so are the vocal murmurs and voice saying, "Freeeeeze!" during the chorus. Not as good as the former songs, but a standout nonetheless.
"Tattoo" is the last standout. I recall disliking this song for a long time because the lyrics were kinda cheesy to me but mostly because production-wise, it's an "Irreplaceable" rip-off (Remember that huge Beyonce hit Ne-Yo co-wrote?). However, I've grown to like this one. Not the best track here but decent.
The bad part?
I honestly can't say I really remember any other track after listening to this disc at least 4-5x. One track I vaguely remember but not for a good reason though. The chorus was speedy and annoying. I just recall it talking about someone not showing their feelings to Jordin right away and she always passed by them without them speaking on it. The album is largely forgettable. I usually remember all of the final American Idol songs of contestants that I like. But hers? Couldn't tell you how it goes.
Honestly, this is the type of album for die-hard fans only. Mostly just the 3 non-AI singles stand out with another couple of tracks for good measure. I'd download your favorites and call it a day. Or get the album here used. Disappointed me even though I mainly wanted this for the singles (which I got).
3 stars.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2008I have to admit that when Jordin was competing on American Idol I didn't think she was one of the better ones. I heard the song and saw the video for Tattoo and I was impressed. So I bought the album and every song is good and great to listen to. I recommend this cd for upbeat, danceable music. Great first cd Jordin!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gelungenes Debut
Nach der Debutsingle "No Air" feat Chris Brown bringt Jordin Sparks nun ihre erstes Album auf den Markt.
Auf ihrem Debut vereint Jordin HipHop, RnB, Soul und Pop miteinander. Das Album wechselt zwischen Tanzbaren z.B. "Freeze" oder "Shy Boy" und emotionalen Songs z.B. "Tattoo" oder "Next to You".
Es macht Spaß sich dieses Album anzuhören. Jordin überzeugt mit einer starken, gefühlvollen Stimme und guten Texten.
Für mich ist Jodins Debut eines DER Alben 2008!
