Editorial Reviews
In 1968, John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant formed Led Zeppelin, one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Page brought in Plant, Bonham and Jones to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world. The Led Zeppelin reissue campaign got off to an remarkable start in June 2014 as deluxe editions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, and Led Zeppelin III debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. The albums achieved similar international success with debuts near the top of the charts in more than a dozen territories, including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom. For the second round, the band prepared the reissues of Led Zeppelin IV (the third best-selling album in U.S. history) and Houses Of The Holy. As with the previous deluxe editions, both albums have been newly remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page and are accompanied by a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album. In 1973, Led Zeppelin topped the charts again with Houses Of The Holy, which features legendary tracks such as "The Song Remains The Same" and "No Quarter" while also showcasing the continuing evolution of the band’s signature sound with the reggae-tinged "D’yer Mak’er" and the funk jam "The Crunge." The album has been certified diamond by the RIAA for sales of over 11 million copies. The seven unreleased tracks on the companion audio disc include rough and working mixes for "The Ocean" and "Dancing Days" that reveal a deeper look inside the recording sessions of these classic songs. Other standout recordings include the guitar mix backing track for "Over The Hills And Far Away" and a version of "The Rain Song" without piano. Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for its pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. Founding members Jones, Page and Plant – along with Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham – took the stage at London’s O2 Arena in 2007 to headline a tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun, a dear friend and Atlantic Records’ founder. The band was honored for its lifetime contribution to American culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. In January of 2014, the band won their first ever Grammy award as Celebration Day, which captured their live performance at the Ertegun tribute concert, was named Best Rock Album.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2024Haven't listened to this since the 70's, and still a classic!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2014This album is in my view the pinnacle of Led Zeppelin. And what a way to celebrate this awesome album with a brilliant box set.
I'll run through what you get, and a quick opinion of each:
The Original Album from 1973, Remastered (on CD, and 180g Vinyl):
The remaster is absolutely brilliant. The bass and drums have so much more feel now, something that is really evident in songs such as 'Over The Hills...' and 'Dancing Days'. The guitars in 'TSRTS' are much clearer, too. Even the little limerick at the start of 'The Ocean' is that little bit crisper.
The vinyl comes in a replica 1973 sleeve, with a nice little paper band around the outside, as well as the lyric sheet. It looks stunning! The CD is a replica of this, coming in its own sleeve, with all elements shrinked and replicated too. It's quite cute.
The HD Download Card:
Use this. Oh my gosh, this album in 96/24 is just mindblowing. It makes the already awesome remaster just come to life.
2014 Companion Audio (on CD, and 180g Vinyl):
The companion audio for LZIV really disappointed me, to be honest. I felt like half the songs were the exact same, with only seriously subtle differences that I really struggled to notice. Houses of the Holy's companion audio, however, is not like that.
Every song has its own feel, to the alternate guitars in TSRTS, to the different mix of The Rain Song (however I'm certain there's still piano in the song, despite the mix apparently not having piano). Over The Hills is just wonderful as a backing track, and No Quarter has a real errie feel to it, with the piano overdubs. Every song is different in its own way, and it is honestly worth it. The vinyl comes in a single sleeve, and the CD once again replicates it.
Cover Print:
You get an LP-sized print of the original cover which is nice :) If you're one of the first 30,000 buyers, yours will be numbered too. You don't get a print of the alternate artwork which would have been nice as well...
80 Page Hardback Book:
Made from the same material as the box itself and coming with a neat zeppelin di-cut hole in the front. The pages are crisp and really thick, and the colour printing and reproduction is amazing. The images in the book have real depth to them, and look as though they have texture to them. A real special item to own.
So, um, yeah. Get this box set. On paper, it doesn't seem worth it, I know. It's also bloody expensive. However the quality that these items have been reproduced at still amazes me. It is worth every penny, I promise you. Cannot wait for Physical Graffiti!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2024Led Zepplin loved exploring in their music. The period covered by this album takes the significant elements of their previous albums and brings them together in an ever evolving odyssey. It springs from a fertile time. The content picked from a much larger pool of music thaw would spill over into Physical Graffiti. These songs are not as dark or intense as before. Things are brighter and more expansive.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2014This review is for the 2014 Deluxe Edition Box Set. Jimmy has once again offered up another amazingly beautiful deluxe remastered edition. This set has the same high quality as the four previous sets. If you loved them , you'll love this one. I'm still mesmerized by the stunning 80 page book and numbered print. The book is like a time capsule buried fourty years ago and only recently dug up for our pleasure. The artistic theme of the original LP's artwork has faithfully been carried over into this latest release. The vinyl LPs don't just look impressive , they also sound amazing. I can't praise the quality of this set enough. It's well worth the cost. Two CDs , two separate LPs and a high quality digital download. All wrapped up in a stunning textured package.
--Update on HD Download Card---- This is the only Deluxe Zeppelin set to be sold via Amazon that does not include the free mp3 download with purchase. I'm not sure why? Anyhow, I decided to use the 96/24 high-definition audio feature included in this set. All you need to do to access the album is login and start the download to your device. The folks at WMG Store advised this HD Download is only compatible with PCs and Laptops , which is a bummer if you're a tablet/ smartphone only household like we are. We haven't owned a PC for many moons. Everything is in the cloud in our world. I was able to download to my smartphone after what seemed like an eternity.... I also had to manually move the file from downloads into my music due to it not being compatible with my phone. I honestly feel the effort was wasted. I only listen to music files on my phone while out running. The sound quality of the HD card is truly wasted on someone me. It sounds pretty much like all the other downloads already on my phone. The customer support team at WMG were very helpful but I'm sure I won't have any use for the HD cards from future Zeppelin sets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelente edición de este disco

5.0 out of 5 stars For hardcore fans and collectors
I am a long time Zep fan since their formation.
I Purchased these (Super Deluxe Edition Box Sets) for the 70 page hardcover book that comes with the package(s).
I suspect the Super Deluxe Edition Box Sets are for hardcore Zep fans and collectors, as long time Zep fans would already
own the vinyl, the tapes, the CD'S and/or box sets that have been released over the years since 1969.
The photos in the book aren't the best Zeppelin photos... they seem to be from personal collections.
And there are also articles and reviews from the time period of the release of that album as well as scanned copies of contracts
for live appearances and studio time and inter "office" memos.
For the new or casual fan or one who goes to a concert disappointed because it didn't sound like the album,
I would suggest the single disc Remastered Original CD.
If you would like alternate tracks as well then purchase the Deluxe Edition CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-distorted Ocean
Initially, my copy of Houses had a terribly distorted version of The Ocean (and "no" it wasn't the distortion that was intended by J Page or that was always included as some folks point out - this was extremely noticeable and ruined one of my favorite Zep songs). After 3 tries, I finally received a distortion-free copy of The Ocean only to realize No Quarter had issues. The copy I received from Amazon UK is perfect. Weird that the other pressings have issues, but my problem is resolved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nummer 5 'delivers too'!
Kaufen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Dificil continuación del volumen 4
cosas demasiado notableS. Imprescindible.
