Escape of the Fae: A Dark Fantasy Romance (Poison Penitentiary Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 642 ratings

***********THIS SERIES IS COMPLETE**********

A thousand prisoners against one? Bring it on…

The name’s Jessy Gilchrest and I’m nobody’s fairy Princess. I’m a Cage fighter, pack leader and all around bad-ass alpha Fae. They say I’ve got a little impulse control problem and they’re right about that.

I robbed the Vampire King’s Castle and it got me thrown into Poison Penitentiary, home of the most blood-thirsty creatures in the Magical Sect. A dark secret haunts this place, clinging to the air like a disease and in here, everything goes bump in the night.

I’m not worried though. Because I may be crazy, but I’m not stupid. I got caught for a reason. They’ve got my younger brother locked up in here. He’s innocent and I’ll stop at nothing till he’s freed. There’s just one problem with my brilliant break-out plan. Remember that little impulse control issue I mentioned earlier?

I got in a fight with the warden on the first day and now she’s promised freedom to any prisoner who can finish me off.

Four of the prison’s deadliest inmates’ step in to help me. A Werewolf, Dragon shifter, Vampire and Demon. What do they want in exchange? Let’s just say they’ve got a taste for Alpha Fae. A big one.

Are you ready for a strong Fae heroine and four paranormal criminal heroes? Then buckle up and prepare for the ride of your life. If you like fated mates, hot, Psycho Alphas, and tough, Sassy heroines, you’ll enjoy this hot and spicy RH series.

The Poison Penitentiary series happens ten years before the events of the Blood moon shifters series. But both series can be read COMPLETELY independently.

Hey there! I'm Taylor Spratt but my readers call me 'the Jamaican gem'. I write deliciously dark paranormal romances about possessive heroes and strong heroines who refuse to be possessed.

I have a passion for all things supernatural and romantic. And just so you know, I like my stories like I like my fried chicken, extra spicy and dangerously hot. XD

I do what I love and love what I do. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you love my stories!

Wow!! Good read and not what I expected.

Wow!! Good read and not what I expected.
The first book in the paranormal penitentiary series was a hit. The beginning of the book did have a lot of character development, but once it got going I was hooked to the storyline and to be honest the development of the characters did help in the end.Taylor did a great job of writing the story from the different characters point of views, which made the storyline more well rounded. The main character in this book, Jesy, is such a strong sassy woman and yet she has a vulnerable and soft side that made this story although fantasy more relatable to real life. The supporting males also did not disappoint. Each of them had such different personalities that brought out a different side to her. Now what I loved the most was the ending which I totally didn’t see coming. It definitely leaves you ready for me. So now I am anxiously counting down the days until the second book is released.

Like if I could have done this without rating it I would have. I’m emotionally messed up. Like dang. This was psychological on a whole other level. I’m like what the hell did I just read? Do I want to read the next on? This is not a happy read. If you are looking for a there is hope for a better tomorrow read this book ain’t it. There is a lot of suspense. A little mystery. A whole lot of where is this going.
Now to be clear outside of a few editing errors the book is overall good. ( example in the chapter where Jessica meets the guys for the first time she referenced how many she at met at the point but it was not the correct number.)

My main problem is with Jessica. We keep getting told she is an alpha but she was coming off very beta. A strong beta but very beta. Like I kept waiting for her to be better than the guys but she wasn’t better. She was dominated by these men at every turn. I thought maybe she just needed to get use to the prison but she kept acting reckless like she wasn’t weak. She made plans to get out of prison but they were weak plans. The only way she hadn’t gotten caught before has to be because of her pack cause she don’t plan well. If you go into a facility like the prison, you better take the time to know everything about it before setting foot in there. She had the resources and seemed like the man power. So she came off reckless and the way the book ended made sense in the way that she was right about herself. I don’t know how she didn’t have a clue about most of the reveals at the end. It just felt like a bit of research by somebody should have revealed some suspicions about the prison if not about the reveals about gold block.
My issues with the character isn’t bad writing to me just it feels like the character doesn’t seem to act like i have been told she should as an alpha. So I feel confused. Otherwise very interesting read. Maybe I will read next book.

What a first installment of a catchy, funny, blood-thirsty new series. Jesse, our FMC had me hooked with her dialog, b@da$$ery and super Alpha vibes.

How she navigates Poison Penitentiary and makes friends and alliances is witty and very cheeky. We meet her future Alpha MMC's during this book and the twisty turns it takes will leave you in shock. I genuinely did not see that coming and I'm so excited to start reading book 2. This author has a very unique view and storytelling that I'm addicted to. Love love love it!

Jessica "Jessy" is on a reduce mission. Her brother was locked up in a high security prison and she will not let him stay there. But...her first day does not go as planned. She definitely enters with a bang and a price on her head. In order to save her brother she has to navigate the dangerous waters of the prison. She has many eyes on her and not all of the want to kill her.

This book was an interesting read. The FMC is a alpha who doesn't take any crap and may just be a bit crazy. Throughout the book she stays focused on her end goal and we learn about her and her brother (Michael) history. All of the guys got a little crazy going on with them as well. Who doesn't like alittle psycho in their men. This book had a very interesting ending that I didn't see coming. Good job Taylor 👍

I can see where this could have been a really awesome fantasy read. World building was to a minimum. The MFC was portrayed to be a badass but I just did not see her being a strong heroine up against her love interests. Definitely insta love trop, reincarnation trope (not my fav), etc.

I am not sure I really connected with or loved any of the male love interests for Jessy. Drake was probably the least insta love, with some tension in their interactions.

Plot twist at the end. But just a stupid one? It just did not get me excited. Also, why does everyone she get involved in her escape plan get a pass to get out? Like the sandman….like why offer him freedom? It was a lot of filler in the plot, meeting her love interests, and then getting to the story line. Eh. Prob not gonna continue the series.

I loved this book. It was really well written, all the characters were really well developed. The pace of the book was good and the world building wasn't too confusing.
Jessy is a great character, she is so determined and kickass but still vulnerable and really likeable. I love the way she dealt with the guys and the other prisoners.
The males are all completely different, not just in species, and it's not all insta love, there is a great build up.
The overall story is straight forward but the way it's written will keep you hooked as different things are woven into the story.
The twist and cliffhanger were totally out of the blue and I was not expecting anything close, it just made me sit back and wonder what I'd missed (ha ha) and I really don't know where the story will go in book 2.

There are a lot of things I really liked about this. The characters are well developed and true to themselves, the story is interesting, with an amazing cliffhanger at the end, and it was easy to get sucked in.
It is worth mentioning that there are similarities to others in the RH prison genre, but it is also unique to not feel like you’re reading the same story.

This book was an amazing introduction to Jesy. She’s powerful, strong and amazing - everything you could want in a female main character. Her guys are fab too. I adored this book and I can’t wait for book 2. You won’t be disappointed. Taylor is a fantastic writer and I have a feeling this series will become one of my top 5. I highly recommend this.
