I really liked the plot and the characters. It was a great suspenseful read and kept you on the edge. For me the constant use of the "f" bomb was unnecessary and distracting and for that reason I am only giving it 3 stars.

Another breathless read by Maggie James! Prepare for an "all-nighter" before you turn the first page. James has a talent for taking ordinary characters and thrusting them into extraordinary circumstances, subjecting them to dilemmas and challenges that have no limits. Her plots are tangles of twists and turns that leave readers in knots with frayed nerves. James is masterful at immersing families and close friends in the full blown drama of deception. A stunning read!

The plot was interesting with twists you don’t see coming. Some of the phrases were a little hard to follow, but all in all an enjoyable book.

I really enjoyed this book and could not read fast enough, as the pace picked up. I was really bowled along by the story, and taken by surprise at the end. It is certainly a lesson on being very careful of exposing personal details on the internet. Not is all it seems and there are many con-men and women out there!

Amazing. Another winner from Ms. James. I read a lot of psychological thrillers and this one still surprised me with its plot twists. I was sad when I got to the end because the book was so good!

Good story but it was a bit wordy at times. Felt like it was dragged out at the end. Interesting concept.

Ex-pat artist Lyddie comes home to her native Bristol after her younger sister attempts suicide. But Ellie’s state of mind turns out to be the result of a con-man who has stolen both her savings and her confidence. Vowing revenge, Lyddie determines to track down the villain and bring him to justice, setting herself up with a new identity to lure the smooth-tongued trickster into her trap. But working out who the bad guy is turns out to be more difficult than she’d thought, and Lyddie soon discovers she’s weaving her own web of deceit.

Maggie James has done it again – she’s taken a straightforward plot and fashioned it into twisty-turny thing that keeps the reader guessing from start to finish. There’s a wonderful undercurrent of uncertainty that runs throughout the book, leaving a trail of clues and blind alleys that could stop Poirot in his tracks. What I also loved was the way the author doesn’t just tell a story but explores the dark nature and psychological traits of her characters, creating a believable and, at times, scarily real suspense that will appeal to anyone who loves a nice murderous plot.

I loved how descriptive the writer is and how easy it is to envision the characters as I’m reading. I also like how the story shifts between somewhat of a romance novel to a thriller.
An exciting sequence of events that keeps you hooked all the way through, great read.

This book has been on my 'to read' list for a while so I was very pleased to finally find time to read it.

Liddie is a successful person. She aced her exams and qualified as an accountant. Inheritance from her father and some successful investments mean she has managed to move to Spain and make a living from her love: painting.

Ellie by contrast has always struggled academically but helped by her older sister she struggled on until a tragic accident damaged her brain. Damage to her temporal lobe meant she would always struggle to make logical decisions and their father asked Liddie to look after her younger sister.

Add a controlling mother into the mix and we have 2 very different siblings one has everything and the younger living in her shadow. It is a recipe for sibling rivalry.

Liddie is happily living the dream in Spain when a phone call changes everything. Ellie has again tried to commit suicide and is asking for her sister. From there everything spirals downwards out of control. There is romance, fraud, lies and fragmented relationships all entangled in a twisty turny thriller.

This was a very good read, unfortunately, I worked out the fraudster early on in the book (although I did question myself once or twice) and that lost it a few points.
