Defender of Crowns: Kingdom of Walls, Book 3 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 212 ratings

Fighter. Misfit. Heart thief.

How long can Chadora’s throne sit empty? That is the question on everyone’s mind as they wait for the rightful heir to return for his crown. Patience is not Eda’s strong suit, and she has an idea to speed things along that just might work. The youngest Suttone has found her voice, and now she is determined to be heard. If they will not listen to her words, then she will speak with her sword. It is time to step outside the walls. But first she must get past the only man brave enough to stand in her way.

Roul Thornton has a five-year plan and too many secrets. As he guards those within Chadora’s walls, he is acutely aware that the people who need his protection most exist outside of them. At least, that was true right up until he met the youngest Suttone sister. She needs protecting from herself. Eda is fire and heart and wit and trouble - and the biggest threat to his plan. He is about to follow her down a dangerous path. With his loyalties already divided, Roul must ensure his heart remains wholly intact.

This is the third book in the medieval dystopian series Kingdom of Walls. If you enjoy heart-racing action, witty dialogue, and a fierce heroine, then this high-drama love story is for you.

Eda and Roul's story was so engaging from the very beginning. There was never a lull. I truly enjoyed the banter and chemistry between these two. I kept reading with a smile on my face and at times with an ache in my heart. One thing that really stood out for me was Eda's strength. There was so much beauty in her strength. This love story was beyond what I could have hoped for!

Tanya Bird does it again! I love everything this woman writes but this one stood out over the others in the fact that it really felt like I was reading a detailed and glorious action movie script. There was intense, desperate love balanced with action scenes that had me sitting on the edge of my seat and literally bringing my kindle everywhere I went, distracting me from my work. And as always, full of clever lines, hilarious moments, witty banter and overall, top class writing. Eda is so relatable and such a joy to read about. ABSOLUTELY worth the read!

Defender of Crowns is the final book in this series. Strong willed Eda, the youngest daughter is determined to be a soldier. Smart and skilled, she lacks only the strength of the men she would join. Roul, her long time best friend, is to train her to perform an important task for the Queen. Their friendship has always been more, and the training leads them into something deeper. Eda has a Kingdom to save. Roul has a family to save. Their promises must be kept, even if they pull them in opposite directions. Humor, action, wit, battles, and love are all here along with chickens and donkeys with personalities of their own! I loved this book which kept me glued to my seat until the last word! Tanya Bird never disappoints!

I feel like I have been waiting forever for this book to come out! I loved all three books in the trilogy. As I was reading a book and all of the good things that have come about since the first book, I realized how changed so many people’s lives were because Harlan saw something in a starving, scared, and grieving girl that no one else saw. I like watching how the relationships strengthen through hardship instead of driving them away from each other.

I love the Suttone sisters so much, I was waiting on tenterhooks for this book to be released. I read it in two days, I was so enthralled in the story and Eda's journey. This reminded me a lot of the first book in Tanya's Roman Hearts series, Eda is such a strong warrior but not without her faults. I loved the dynamic between Roul and Eda. I had my suspicions about them in the second book so was thrilled to find I was correct. It's beautifully written, and Tanya had me on the edge of my seat, particularly in the second half. I was so sad to see this series end, it was my introduction to Tanya's work and I am obsessed.

What a wonderful book! The entire series was so enthralling and entertaining. I will seriously miss the characters - all of them including Garlic, Basil, Rosemary and Pepper. Read anything and everything by Tanya Bird and you will never be disappointed.

I’ve read all of Tanya Bird’s books, and Defender of Crowns may be my favorite. I liked the witty banter, the friends to lovers story, plot twists, and all the action. It was hard to put this book down once I started reading it. Eda is one of the best heroine’s I’ve read in a while. I highly recommend!

This book was a bit of a miss with me.
Eda was great and a wonderful warrior.

I never really connected with Roul and both prince and queen were spoiled brats that don’t deserve to rule, but at least are better than crazy people committing mass murder.

The uncle Thomas should’ve been killed long ago as he has no business in this story.

I liked that Eda is getting a happy ending but I think she deserved better

Such fantastic writing. The setting that frames the stories in this series is vibrant and set with powerful economic and social challenges. Each of the sisters in this series, for whom the books are written, have different personalities and drives and the author stays true to their individuality. This book, like the previous two are so engaging to read and get lost in. This story is probably the most exciting for me as Eda trains a warrior for real, with men and gains their respect. Satisfying as the ending was, I wished the book to go on...... so good.

It’s not often I finish a series in 2 days and immediately go back to book 1 to start all over again. As with all of Tanyas books, the writing is just incredible.. to pack so much emotion and adventure into (pretty well) a stand-alone is just pure talent. I love these characters, I love this world and I really really hope I get to see more of them in the future.

Such an incredible end to an amazing series! Out of all three books Roul and Eda are my favorites. The story was beautifully written and Tanya Bird has a way of evoking emotions throughout the story. I normally don't stay up till 2 am to read a book, but this book had me gripped till the end, I couldn't put it down!

Well Done Tanya Bird, Well Done :)

I didn't think anything could beat the second one but this last one was equally good, if not even better. Sad to see the series end. I've already read the companion series which I also loved so will have to see what else the author has.
