Car Heroin Train Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 63 ratings

Adapted from an award-winning screenplay, and inspired by real-life events, CAR HEROIN TRAIN is a heart-wrenching tale from the front lines of the opiate epidemic that has taken so many lives and devastated so many more.

Recently graduated from a prestigious college, Evan heads off to Buffalo, NY to track down the 4-year-old girl his father rescued from a car crash eighteen years back. What he imagines he will find is a girl who has grown up to become someone that the world desperately needs. Why else would his dad have died saving her? Instead, what he discovers is that Amanda can barely make it from one day to the next. Utterly disillusioned, he prepares to return home when he befriends a little girl who needs him more than anything. However, this friendship soon becomes compromised as Evan comes across Amanda again, and they start to become involved.

Having someone I loved die from a heroin overdose is what attracted me to this book. The ending of my time with him was just as sad as the book's ending...I just didn't expect things to go the way they did in both stories. I don't think the "Evans" in this world truly ever get over the heartbreak of their own stories, just as I will never get over mine. Well written and too damn true.

This was intense. At first the phrasing seemed strange, as though it was translated to English, but that was the perfect way to tell this story. She made her characters so real, their story so believable.

A book that has left me questioning my own views on life, death, and if everything is one big coincidence or if we're destined to be at certain places at certain times with certain people. Wow. What an amazing read.

If you seek a deeper understanding of drug dependency, you’ve found it with this masterfully written book.

As you will learn, addiction is all encompassing and unrelenting. It is a vice grip unbroken by good deeds; it is ferocious and single minded. It does not provide reprieve; tears, selfless acts, pure souls, moments of joy, they will all be quickly devoured. What stands as tall as redwood will be snapped like balsa. Talent will be feasted upon.

It is wildfire; it will spread. It is unsatisfied with the burning of the arsonist; it must feed on all of its surroundings. Turbulent winds do nothing but motivate the beast. It will destroy shelters of the past, present, and future.

You don’t really read this book. You simply endure it.

Please consider giving to organizations who help with addiction. It is not something that can be taken on alone.

To the author —- thank you for telling a story that is so often untold.

Firstly, I want to thank everyone who made it possible for me to win this free Kindle book in a Goodread's Giveaway. I have tried to read this book for some time now and will try to get back to it. The beginning had a lot of cursing which turned me off. This had a bit more than I normally tolerate. Four foul words in 3 sentences was a bit much but I struggled through to the end. This book was adapted from an award-winning screenplay and I actually can see it being more popular in that venue. From a book perspective, it didn't really work for me that well. It was a good story but it just didn't pack a punch for me for various reasons. Perhaps I'm too old to be reading certain types of novels and I think the title of this book should have been my first hint to not read it. Sorry to say, it didn't do much for me but maybe it would appeal to a younger set.

@Joanne Green as a recovering heroin addict I can tell you that that is just part of our vernacular. We curse by nature it's just a way for us to release the feelings that we no longer deal with medication. You've managed to miss the amazing love story because you were clouded by the way someone spoke. For someone who won this book it is amazing that you could not see past the language. This book is so insightful and truthful and a true testament to what life as an addict is like. I hope people pick this book up and read it time and time again because it will shine light on what life is like 💯.

A mesmerizing book with the truth of”one death and the living all fall” hits home for many of us that have endured the pain of a loved one with addictions.A sad compelling story of the truth of evil that lives in the Heartland of America today. The author brings the characters to life- when reading this book one cannot
Hold back tears for we can all relate to the broken hearts left sucking air after the tragedy of a loved one has left this Earth too early.A “Must Read” for everyone living in this crisis of Addiction in America today. Author states this is a work of fiction. Yet sadly many have lived this and life is now in “ Before’s and After’s.” I only hope Virginia Austin writes a sequel and gives us some answers. Excellent Read!

Besides a look at addiction and its consequences for ALL involved, there’s a really good love story here. And what’s refreshing is that it is one where good boy falls for bad girl. Also enjoyed the parts between Evan and the little girl in the hospital. That added a lot of depth to the book. Agree with one of the other reviewers about the book questioning whether everything is destiny or coincidental.
