Building Bridges (Bridges Brothers Book 1) Kindle Edition
Former soldier Logan Bridges never imagined he would go from serving his country to helping raise a house full of children after a devastating family loss. Dealing with his rowdy siblings and cousins proves to be almost as treacherous as the battlefields he left behind. And though he's committed to making it work, he soon finds he's in over his head. Until someone from Logan's past, steps in to help.
Mollie has always been independent, but finds herself growing attached to the family, including Logan, and discovering there's more to life than working and solitude. Logan and Mollie quickly form a strong bond, and when attraction brings them closer, they agree getting involved wouldn't be good for the children.
But when they both struggle to keep the blurry line of friendship between them, Mollie won't take that step unless Logan can open up and face his painful past.
* * * Bridges Brothers series follows four brothers as they attempt to navigate life and love after a tragic family loss. Each book can be read as a standalone but is more enjoyable read in order.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2020There is a lot to love about Building Bridges, but let me tell you my top five reasons (in no particular order):
1. Slow build - yes, there's somewhat immediate attraction, which I expect to see in a Romance novel; however, true to her form, Fairchild doesn't throw her characters right into bed, which I appreciate. And I know I've mentioned it in other reviews about her past novels, but the author's ability to write sex scenes and romance without "bodice ripper" words takes her romances to an entire new level for me. Fairchild can write an intensely hot scene without making me want to gag over words or skip pages whilst rolling my eyes so hard back in my head that I may lose them ;) (thanks for that, Lia)!
2. Strong, developed characters - romance is the name of the game so that will be a focus point; however, Logan and Mollie have issues and lives outside of their attraction to one and other and those things are fully explored in the story and don't just serve as quick words in between sex scenes. Additionally, the entire Bridges family is lovable and some of my favorite characters to have read about in 2019 (I read a very early copy and am only writing my review now that the book has published).
3. Heart - Logan is back, somewhat hesitantly at first, with his family after serving in the military. Readers will not be able to avoid being touched at how he finds his way to the hub of a family in pain and in desperate need of support.
4. Story - combined with the strong characters, I appreciate the work Fairchild puts into ensuring her readers get a developed story that has the sexy romance-y parts that lovers of the genre savor, while also including humor, fun, intrigue, and even whimsy. I was invested in this family, the couple, and the evolving story from the first page.
5. Friction - the story has pain, anger, frustration, and more. There are familial issues, mental issues, past demons, and normal, daily struggles that readers can connect with and relate to throughout. I like that about novels that do it well (and this one does). Yes, I read to escape at times and I know many readers do, but escaping while also learning about people and issues you may not have experience with is valuable and authors who make it happen authentically while simply putting together a great story are my favorites.
Bonus reason: try not to ADORE Belly Bean and her relationship with pretty much anyone she interacts with during the story!!
I am once again a raving fan of a Lia Fairchild novel and set of characters. I've thought about Mollie, Logan, and the entire Bridges clan many times since reading this book - almost as if they are real and I can call up and check on them if I like (wouldn't that be nice, readers?).
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2020Loved this story!! It’s emotional but definitely has moments of comic relief that come from being part of a family. It is full of love and but also heartache that life can bring. Logan is an amazing man. He goes to war and comes back a totally different person. But when his family is faced with tragedy he does all he knows to do - he loves them through it all. And with a little help from a beautiful nurse, he finally realizes why life is worth living. Great beginning to a series! Can’t wait to read Book 2!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2024I love Logan and Mollie's characters. Their personal development and their relationship development was so much fun to read. They both have huge hearts. I love that they found their way to each other
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2020Typos abound, tenses of verbs to subject doesn't match, and then there are the sentences with multiple tenses in them. But it's a great story idea, and if those kind of things don't bother you, an enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 1, 2020One of my favorite things about Lia Fairchild is her ability to write interesting, full characters who pull you into their stories. You become a part of the Bridges family, watch them recover from a terrible loss, and celebrate their triumphs.
In the first book of this series we meet Logan, an Army vet who, like so many others, is trying to find his place in the civilian world and within his family now that he is home. Into his life walks Molly, a strong, smart woman who is no damsel in distress. Watching them fall in love is a journey of tenderness, give-n-take, humor and desire.
Building Bridges sets up the characters for the rest of the series, but does it without taking away from the main story. By doing this, even the secondary characters are full of life.
I was a beta reader for this book and enjoyed it so much, I read my copy 4 times and bought a copy from Amazon when it was released.
I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2020A good story about a injured Military Veteran and the family that loves him. Veterans deal with so many issues when returning to civilian life and if you have been injured in the line of duty, many times the military does not have the resources for all of the follow up care they need. This writer tried to put a good spin on an injured veterans return, but unless they have first hand knowledge of how a person is affected by the real challenges, it will never ring true.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2024This was so beautiful! It was a great blend of heartfelt emotion and spice. The storyline, character development, and punchline were well put together as well. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this first book in the series, and I look forward to reading more from this author!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2022A new to me author I discovered on tiktok. This story wasn't overly heavy on drama and tells the story of a soldier learning how to find his place back at home with his family after a tradegy threatened to tear them all apart. It was a quick, easy read. There were a few editing things, but they were very minor. I'd love a bonus epilogue from the future when Belle goes to prom, I can only imagine the overprotective "big brothers" reactions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good story
Now this story was a little lighter than I’m used to. That being said I really enjoyed this book.
When tragedy strikes. Logan is an ex veteran, returns home to help his family.....Which is not an easy task.
They’re all struggling, when Molly, a nurse and old friend of Logan’s, steps in to help.
Can Molly save Logan and his family?
This story really pulled at the heartstrings. Look forward to reading more by this author
