All The King's-Men (The Yellow Hoods, #3) Kindle Edition
More than a hundred years ago, a king declared that all geniuses, scientists and inventors were abominations, save for those willing to become his Conventioneers. His edict spread like wildfire through the kingdoms, and drove the hunted into the arms of the secret societies, the Tub and the Fare.
Decades later, having taken control of the remains of the crushed Fare, a young Marcus Pieman follows up on rumors of a homeless, teenage Abominator in his city. When the scared Nikolas Klaus looked up at Marcus for the first time, a tremendous bond was forged.
A betrayal leads Tee to a showdown with her greatest foe. Who breaks and who lays bleeding in the middle of nowhere?
And Mounira learns the truth about the once great inventor, Christophe Creangle.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2017I got the first 2 books in the Gears & Goggles set and became intrigued quickly. I love a good weave of classic fairytale, with twists to characters and situations, and mystery with different innovations. Very rich plot that keeps unfolding as it winds ever deeper. I think my favorite use of fairytale twist is the Cochon brothers. I am avidly following the revelation of their muddled past with a hopeful heart! I was a little disappointed with Tee's interactions with Elly. I know she was given classified info, but I would think she'd know to trust her best friend. All the secrecy between everyone seems to be part of a very big problem. I have a feeling that several groups are actually on the same side without realizing it because they're too immersed in the power struggle. I can't wait to read the next one. Good thing I just got it!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2016I’ve been a fan of Adam Dreece’s The Yellow Hoods series since I read the first book, Along Came a Wolf. The series has a fun, upbeat style, with some brilliant kids who get into all kinds of danger and have to use their ingenuity and a variety of unique inventions to survive. The series is labeled as “An Emergent Steampunk Series” because a lot of the steampunk technology we see in the books is brand new, being developed by the characters as the series progresses. It’s very interesting to see so many inventions being unveiled, rather than having a world where such things already exist.
This book focused a lot on a developing conflict where it seems the villains are planning to use their newly developed technology to start conquering less-developed nations. There’s also an interesting subplot where at least one kingdom has an old law that outlaws inventors and innovation, unless the inventors work for the government. This leads to a sort of secret society of inventors who have to keep their works hidden, for fear that they’ll be arrested for developing potentially dangerous technology. A lot of the tale is centered around a group of people trying to keep the plans for a new type of steam engine from falling into the wrong hands.
Compared to the previous books, All the King’s-Men takes on a bit of a darker tone. In Along Came a Wolf, the central main character, Tee, was a preteen girl who got into trouble with some unsavory characters, and she and her friends had to work together to save the day. By the time we reach the third book, the characters are a bit older, their enemies are more dangerous, and there are darker twists and more violence and bloodshed. The stakes are also a lot higher, with a war brewing, assassinations taking place, governments being overthrown, and betrayal around every corner.
The only complaint I have about this volume is that with the expansion of the conflict, it sometimes seems that there are too many characters and too many subplots, which makes it a bit harder to follow a central storyline. There were a few times where I started to mix a couple of characters up, simply because there were so many characters engaged in different branches of the plot. This didn’t detract from the writing style itself, which is quite strong. But it does make it so that All the King’s-Men works best as one bridge in an ongoing series, rather than as a standalone novel. It would definitely be best to pick up the first books in the series before this one, in order to keep up with everything that’s been going on.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2015If you enjoyed the first two books in this series you will find this book to be a must read. Without giving anything away, the story continues to get better as the plots unfold. I completely recommend this book and wait eagerly for book 4. If you haven't read the Yellow Hoods series yet you should get the whole set now and find out what the rest of us already know.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 24, 2015Tee will always be my favorite character, when I'm reading this book I feel like I'm right beside her watching her kick some butt and love the action and adventure she get into. If your not reading this series by now your missing out on a lot of strong female writing and all around awesome story thus far and can't wait for the next one!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2015'All the kings men' was exciting and thrilling from beginning to end and I actually tried to slow down near the end so it would last longer. Adam Drees creates a magical and believable world, and once again, can't wait for the next book!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2015I have had the opportunity to read all of the books in this series thus far and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a bit of fantasy intertwined with possibility.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2017This is another fun and entertaining installment in the Yellow Hoods series. The plot takes off where the second book left off, bringing the reader right back into the adventure. As always, the writing is laced with humour and witty banter between the characters. This particular book delves into the politics of the kingdom, further expanding the reader's knowledge of the surrounding world. Also, the series continues to provide additional backstories on all of the characters. Once again, the character development focuses heavily on "found families", which is an understated concept in young adult literature.
The series is formatted similar to literature like Harry Potter where the characters, plot and themes transition from middle to young adult with each publication. All the Kind's Men is the book where the Yellow Heads series definitively shifts from middle grade into the young adult category. Over the course of the story, the Yellow Hood children have been slowly growing up and finally reach their teenage years in this third novel. As the Yellow Hoods mature, they are becoming more confident and independant from each other, even splitting up to go on separate adventures. Tensions arise between these friends as their relationships change and evolve in these transitional years. Furthermore, the tone and seriousness of the plot continue to darken with each book, appealing more and more to a wider, older audience.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. As always, my opinions are my own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Series
I loved the first two books, but this one even more. The ending has me hooked and I am looking forward to the 4th book. Like the first 2 books this book is great for younger readers and still great for mature reader. Again this book is one of many that I want to slow down reading at the end to make it last longer.
