Product description
Grimes is the inventive work of Claire Boucher, a project that has gained notoriety since its inception back in early-2010. Moving to Montreal from Vancouver in 2006, she developed Grimes among the city's burgeoning DIY scene; a scene where both punk ethos and pop music collide, resulting in a distinct sense of community, religiosity and psychedelic revelry.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 December 2012I'm delighted I stumbled across Grimes recently, anyone who enjoys dance music that crosses genres should try this. Dance/pop may be the most accurate description, though dance/indie may give you a better idea of the albums feel. It is certainly not the ubiqutous David Guetta type sound anyway. Another reviewer described a track as "retro-futuristic" a label I might apply to the whole album.
When I first got the album I was fixated on tracks 2 & 3, genesis and oblivion, and didn't get much further than no.8 Be a body, which I liked, but not to the extent of it being a "highlight" as it was for others, I rather lazily expected the rest of the album to be listenable filler. When I finally listened through no's 10,11 +12 blew me out the water!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 June 2018The first time I heard Grimes was when Genesis came out from this album. Haven't looked back since. It's strange to think how far she's come since then and the gain in popularity since Art Angels. Despite Halfaxa and Heidi Primes both being works of art too. I'm just glad that now she gets the recognition that she deserves. Such a beautiful artist, both musically and physically! I love that she creates her album artwork herself, she truly expresses herself through her art forms, which is really not something you get very often anymore.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 March 2013More than anything, this reminds me of a cross between Art of Noise and Cranes. It's a great album, by and large, although it is in danger of disappearing up its own arse at a couple of points. It's quite arty, but there is enough pop in there to stop it from being tiresome, and the ambient feel to it is nice for driving music. On the whole, very pleased with it. I'm not sure it would make me buy anythng else by them, but saying that, I bought the album on the strength of the single.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 May 2013Comprei esse LP no dia 29 de março e aguardei ansiosamente a chegada do mesmo no dia 30 de abril. No momento da entrega não deu outra: só felicidade! Grimes abusa de melodias que tocam o espírito, faixa a faixa do álbum; sem dizer que a qualidade do vinil é incrível e me proporcionou momentos de muito prazer. Nota 10!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 December 2024Great vinyl and arrived in excellent condition. No damage to the record of the cover. Very pleased.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 May 2013The songs a happy, dynamic and lovely done!
I found her music, because "oblivion" (my favorite Song) was used in an Victoria Beckhem Show.
I would recommend the CD to people witch are listen to electronically music, witch is a bit lighter a bit like a fairy tale.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 July 2016You may have been attracted by Oblivion (love the video) but stay on and get hooked by Genesis, Skin and the rest. The sounds are darker and more ethereal than Artangels; another Grimes tour de force.

5.0 out of 5 stars Visions: A Dreamy, Futuristic Masterpiece from Grimes
Grimes’ Visions is a hypnotic, otherworldly dive into the mind of Claire Boucher, blending ethereal vocals, dreamy synths, and glitchy beats into something that feels like it’s beaming in from a distant galaxy. Released in 2012, this album helped cement Grimes as a unique force in the electronic and indie music scenes, with a sound that’s both futuristic and deeply emotional.
From the shimmering opening of Infinite ♥ Without Fulfillment to the haunting echoes of Skin and Know the Way, Visions flows like a lucid dream—sometimes serene, sometimes unsettling, but always captivating. Tracks like Oblivion and Genesis are standouts, showcasing Grimes’ ability to craft infectious melodies while maintaining a sense of mystery and experimentation.
Some of my stand outs:
Oblivion – A shimmering yet haunting anthem, mixing an upbeat melody with dark lyrical themes.
Genesis – One of Grimes’ most recognizable tracks, with dreamy synths and a hypnotic rhythm.
Be a Body – A glitchy, futuristic bop with layered vocals that feel weightless.
Circumambient – More aggressive and bass-heavy, showing a darker side of Visions.
Vowels = Space and Time – A catchy, otherworldly track with an infectious groove.
Skin – A haunting, delicate closer that feels like floating through space.
What makes Visions so special is how it balances accessibility with weirdness. The layered production and airy, childlike vocals give the album an alien yet intimate feel, making it both danceable and introspective. It’s no surprise that this record became a defining moment in the rise of electronic art pop, influencing a wave of artists in its wake.
A decade later, Visions still holds up as an innovative and deeply personal piece of work. It’s the kind of album that transports you somewhere else—whether that’s a neon-lit cyberpunk cityscape or a dreamworld of its own creation. If you’re into electronic music that feels both futuristic and deeply human, Visions is a must-listen.
