Angel of Death (A Love Story) (Children of the Fallen Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 78 ratings

Azrael Thanatos wants nothing more than to follow in the footsteps of his scientist mother. Sent to study humans on a wager between the Eternal Emperor and Shay'tan, he has no idea Earth is gateway to a fiery prison. Far from home, he is befriended by Elissar, a precocious child with silver eyes. When Moloch instigates an invasion of Carthage to escape, Azrael sacrifices his life to snatch Elissar from the Devourer of Children's maw.

Saved by a mysterious mother-goddess, Azrael is given a new mission. Watchman. Roaming the Earth without shape or form, he searches for those who would help Moloch escape and drags them back to Gehenna, a prison which only Lucifer, debauch son of the Emperor, holds the key. It's a hellish immortality, for who wants to serve alongside the Fallen or exist when no living creature can survive your touch? Ki promised he would see Elissar again, but as time grinds civilizations into dust, Azrael begins to lose hope.

Then one day a child takes his hand and lives…

Life for Elizabeth is not easy. The Angel of Death took her family the night a drunk driver plowed through a stop sign and left her in a wheel chair. Azrael is forbidden to interfere as she bounces through foster homes, hardship, and grueling rehabilitation. Then one day he is forced to reveal he is not a figment of her imagination. Oh, how she hates this angel who has taken everyone she ever loved! She will defeat him! Even if she has to squeeze the life force from her own body! The invasion of Iraq inspires her to join the Army and become a trauma nurse, unaware Death has fallen in love with the woman who can defeat him.

Will she take his hand a second time?

Anna Erishkigal is a recovering attorney who writes fantasy fiction under a pen-name so her colleagues don't question whether her legal pleadings are fantasy fiction as well. Much of law, it turns out, -is- fantasy fiction. Lawyers just prefer to call it 'zealously representing your client.'

Seeing the dark underbelly of life makes for some interesting fictional characters. The kind you either want to incarcerate, or run home and write about. In fiction, you can fudge facts without worrying too much about the truth. In legal pleadings, if your client lies to you, you look stupid in front of the judge.

At least in fiction, if a character becomes troublesome, you can always kill them off.

I have never written a book review before, but the author asked so nicely at the end of the book to do so wherever you got it from so here goes. When I first saw the title I was a little leery, I mean the angle of death as a love story. I expected it to be a little campy, but the description of the book looked OK, and at the time it was free, so what the hell.

Wow, was I surprised, it was one of the best stories I have read in a while, the author sucked my into her little universe and made me care about the characters. The story is well written and moves along at a good pace, OK I thought the prolog was a little slow for my taste, but it dose set up the rest of the story so it was OK, it dose pick up as it goes along.

This is only the 2nd time since I have had my kindle in the last three years that I liked something so well that I picked up for free, that I went out and bought the rest of the series.

I was pleasantly surprised how good of a story this really was. Although it was different than the normal romance stories I read (it was kind of strange and creepy to me at times as to the evil characters in the book), I really did enjoy the book and the love story that went along with it. Really does show a different (softer side) to the Angel of Death, which is the total opposite of what I have always been taught regard same. Once I got into the story and began to understand all of the characters, I couldn't put the book down until I completed it. I loved the main characters and their love story (especially the Angel of Death). Well written book. A great read, especially if you are looking for something new in the way of a love story.

The warnings about the book the author included were not necessary for me as I'm pretty open to new story lines. This author has a unique style, one that grabbed me from the get-go. I read the other review about the protagonist being a tad self-righteous and I do understand that and yet given her story, it makes sense.
I am VERY glad that this book was written because I have read through the first three of The Swords of the Gods Saga...not realizing there are 2 more that will be forthcoming. This book gives clues as to the outcome of those three, which helps during the waiting period!
Overall the author, her series, shorter stories and this book are captivating(can't put it down even way too late at night on a work night) and stunning...Compared to some of the self-published books I've read on Amazon this wins hands down, and should be controversial enough to be a best seller! Hats off to the writer, her imagination and ability to share...great gift to the reading world. Thank you!

After I finished “Agents of Ki” Book 3 in the Sword of the Gods series, I was so desperate to get to book 4 that I actually contacted the author on facebook to ask when she was publishing it. Anna is still working on the book, but guided me to her new series “The Children of the Fallen”. This is a book that happens a couple of millenniums after the original book and it is based in modern times. It deals with a young angelic by the name of Azreal, who finds himself the subject of a bet between Hashim and his old enemy the Dragon known as Shaytan. It is a whole new story dealing with new people and current world events. Although you do manage to get a sneak peek in to what happened to all the major players in the first series. It is just as fascinating as the older series and now I am stuck waiting for the next book in both!

I think with work, this had potential to be better. A lot of the ideas were unique and very interesting. The relationship between Azrael and Elissar from the beginning was very sweet. You could see a little bond forming between them. But I think that things changed much too quickly and she was taken from him too soon before we got a true grasp on their bond forming. They meet again after she is reborn as Elizabeth, and there was many sad scenes of her losing her family in the car crash and the time in foster homes.

What I did not like was how it was until about 54% of the way through that Elizabeth and Azrael actually start conversing. Before that and many times after things began to become a little dull for me after that point. I started skimming the many - and I mean MANY - scenes of war and surgery. As a Love Story, I was hoping for so much more interaction between Elizabeth and Azrael. So it was disappointing that we were treated with so few and very little interaction between the two.

The dialogue also needs work. I can't tell you how many times the word 'um' was used in conversations. We understood that he was shy and hesitant (which to me, is stranger considering how old he is. You'd think he would have grown out of that a bit), but the constant break in dialogue using the word 'um' broke the flow. It became repetitive and annoying after a while.

I really enjoyed the way Azrael was formed. It was very different and made the ending so much more profound when they were finally able to be together. I loved his caring, selfless nature, and the love he had for Elizabeth.

And the best: Because of my "not so good english" -- it's very easy to read and to understand. So it's also good for non native speakers. I like the novels of Anna E. very much. So I recommend them.
