About the author

Shane Stadler is an experimental physicist and university professor. He spent his early career at the US Naval Research Laboratory and other government labs. He has written five novels, including the four-book, sci-fi Exoskeleton series, and is the coauthor of a well-known college physics textbook. He has published over 250 scientific articles on topics that range from magnetic cooling to spintronics to superconductivity.
The Exoskeleton series can best be described as "speculative" in the sense that they are not constrained to a specific genre. They are rather a fusion of science fiction, psycho-horror, and supernatural thriller. His most recent novel, The Peregrine Conjecture (2023), is a blend of sci-fi and spy-thriller, with modern themes reminiscent of George Orwell's 1984 and Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.
Second editions of Stadler's first two books, Exoskeleton (2012) and its sequel,Tympanum (2015), were published in 2024. The second editions are only altered for format.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2024Where do I start? With most series books, character development of others than our hero, in this case Will, are sometimes shallow and boring. Not so with this series. After about 10 pages in, I was absorbed into the storyline and found the book hard to put down. The integration of all the characters in the book was first class, and the excitement of the storyline made the book hard to put down. I am now looking forward to the last book in the series. However, this is bittersweet since this will be the final book and if you have ever read a series that made a huge impact on you, you will understand what I'm saying. I envy those of you that will get to read this for the very first time. It's that good. To the author, more please.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2020Another interesting take on "where did we come from, and why are we here?" (It's merely escapist entertainment, O fellow Christians, so just take it with a grain of salt.)
First two-thirds felt a bit plodding, especially compared to the first two installments, but the pick up afterward was worth the patience.
Leaves the door open to a future series which I would definitely dive into. Would have preferred to give a 4.5 instead of 4, but had to round down because of my own niggling hangups over minor content points. Dunno, maybe therapy might help with that.
Overall, the premise of the entire series was unexpected but well thought out and intriguing. Worth the read for anyone who wants to enjoy a good story without believing themselves a self-appointed critic.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2024All I can say is wow... existential consequences was putting it mildly. All the pieces came together nicely but I need a better end game solution for Will as he deserved a HEA ending somehow with Denise. It would be nice to have an epilogue with Jake, Lenny and Will but overall well written series.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2024At over 600 pages you’d think the story would lag at times, it doesn’t.
The dichotomy between the soul and technology continues to develop in this third book out of four.
A good clean story that is interesting and the scenes flow together well.
The story of a man whose soul is forced to separate from his body. With an alien force threatening to wipe the face of Earth clean, because of that separation, wanting to rebuild the entire environment and reseed life to start over. The fifth such time this has happened with the last generation that was previously wiped from the face of Earth trying to help the current inhabitants. A very interesting premise.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2024Three books. Some of the best reading I have experienced in a long time. Liked the detail to ordinary things. I'll never look the same at a can of Pepsi again. Loved the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2021Great series.... If you go back to the beginning, and think about how you thought the story would go, and look where it ended up.... Great storytelling

Outstanding!
No spoilers from me - buy the series.
It kept popping up in my Facebook feed, so I eventually had a look at the reviews on Kindle, and bought the whole series. I've read all four books in about ten days!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Goodread 👍
This series of books is brilliant, each book brings in a new key character and follows their journey into the plot which is historical, technical, scientific and spiritual and very close to a theme many people believe to be true, saying no more, just read it.
