By My Side: An emotional, page-turning read full of romance and hope Kindle Edition
‘Like a cross between The Notebook and Dear John’ Airam Reviews
Betrayed by her boyfriend and best friend, Lena is left empty; trapped under a weight of guilt and loneliness. Then, at her lowest point and when she needs it most, a mysterious stranger comes into her life with a tale of friendship, family, and finding love in the most unexpected of places…
Katy Heath is definitely not thinking of love when she comes across consultant, Adam Elliot, berating some poor patient on the ward one day. In fact it is Dr Peter Florin who quickly has everyone’s hearts aflutter with his easy smiles and practised charm.
Yet Katy comes to realise that there’s more to Adam than his determination to push everyone away and it’s not long before she finds herself longing to reach out to touch the man within, healing the pain of his past.
As Lena is drawn into Katy’s story, she begins to learn – just as Katy does- that the course of true love never did run smooth.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 June 2015Having met Wendy recently at an author event I couldn't wait to tuck into this novel. I was not disappointed, the style of writing and flow to the story was easy to get on with. I loved the story within a story concept and the character of Kate, a fiesty nurse when riled but secretly a real soft hearted woman searching for the one. The relationship between Kate and Adam is one of many ups and downs and you do find by the end that you want to just knock their heads together and stop them both from being stubborn.
I really hate plot spoilers so all I will say is that the ending is both unexpected and thought provoking! A real feel good book to get stuck into on your holidays. I'm looking forward to reading others by this author in the future.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 April 2015By My Side offers up an emotional whirlpool for the reader as Wendy Lou Jones expertly steers her plot through the ebbs and flows of the characters' turbulent relationships. It begins gently enough, at a funeral; Lena has been forced to help out because of her failed suicide attempt. Her mother won't let her out of her sight. As Lena says, "who in their right mind brought a depressed person to a funeral" but she meets a kind stranger who tells her a story of unexpected love. We then hear the tale of Kate Heath, a skilled Accident and Emergency nurse, and her on/off affair with the brilliant but tortured orthopaedic surgeon, Adam Elliot. An intense physical attraction develops between them and the plot quickly gathers momentum until their lives are swept off course by a series of complex misunderstandings, jealousies and a serious road traffic accident. Jones' expert medical knowledge leads us carefully behind the scenes into the fast-paced, intense world of trauma surgery and there is a huge build up of tension when Adam has to perform life saving surgery. We are swept hurtling along into the very unexpected denouement and find ourselves washed ashore, full circle back at the funeral with Lena and the stranger. Caught in the cycle of life, Lena hopes to find resolution. This is a terrific read that will definitely keep you hooked right to the end.

2.5 stars
Lena is attending a funeral with her mother, the last place she wants to be after catching her boyfriend and best friend together, an event which led to her attempted suicide.
Then a stranger starts talking to Lena and tells her about Kate Heath, a nurse who found love when she wasn't looking for it.
This book is around 90% Kate's story and 10% around Lena which was a shame as I was more interested in Lena. I liked Kate but I found her story a bit predictable. I enjoyed the start of this book but after a while I lost interest. I didn't really connect with the story or the writing style.
Overall this was an okay book but I lost interest.
