The Librarian's Vampire Assistant, Book 2 Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,332 ratings

From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes a humorous standalone mystery, The Librarian’s Vampire Assistant, Book 2. (Yep! It’s a standalone. The boring title is just to mess with you!)

HOW MUCH LONGER CAN HE KEEP HIS SECRET AND HIS FAVORITE HUMAN SAFE?

Michael Vanderhorst has always been a lone wolf. Or lone vampire? Whatever. Point is, this ancient gentleman vampire is obsessed. She’s quirky, a horrible dresser, and the cutest librarian he’s ever seen. The question is, why her? In four hundred years, no one has ever captured his attention like this. He must find out, which is why he just signed on as her new assistant.

The problem is, she has no idea vampires exist or that she’s just broken one of their laws. As the leader of his territory, Michael has been ordered by his council to turn her or kill her. “Over my dead body!”

To overturn the ruling, Michael needs the council on his side, and right now they’re asking him to hunt down and execute five hundred vampires no one can seem to locate. Unfortunately, his assassin days are long over, and he’s not so sure he can go back to killing.

But with Miriam’s life on the line and their unusual bond growing stronger each day, will he dust off the old sword or give her the bite that will make her his forever?

A vampire in Phoenix
5 out of 5 stars
A vampire in Phoenix
Michael just can’t seem to figure out what’s wrong. He’s never has a reaction like this to someone. She isn’t really that special. Except he can’t stop thinking about her. And for a little librarian, she’s all he thinks about. Which is a problem. He has a crime to solve, a mystery to unravel, a friend who has a crush on him, a council to placate, and 500 new vampires to find. In the Phoenix heat and, uhg, SUNSHINE. He’s a vampire. What’s he doing in Phoenix, of all places? Somebody stake him, please.Mimi is a master of the snarky, funny, quirky characters who draw you in and capture you with wit and charm. With a little mystery and a cliffhanger to boot, this book is all that is awesome about Mimi Jean. You’ll laugh and gasp and shake your head, but you’ll fall in love with the Librarian’s Vampire Assistant Book 2.

This is book two in the series. The books make most sense when read in order.
I immediately started reading this book and I loved it as much as the first one. The story starts where the previous book left off and the plot thickens. Things are getting more serious, however, the author maintains the satirical tone even when things get tough. And there are some tough moments in this book. And there is incredible suspense, as well.
The author's writing is beautifully consistent and her characters stay in the character. I really really enjoyed that. Michael is still delightfully grumpy, arrogant self, trying to save everyone by himself without help. And Miriam remains wonderfully ignorant of the other world, which puts both of them in some really funny, awkward, and at times unpleasant situations. Their relationship is still a mystery, the bond and the obsession, which sometimes leaves Michael oblivious of the rest of the world. Although there might be another hint of a romance coming.
This whole funny mess leaves a wonderful opening for all the evildoers to continue their evildoing and put Michael in very difficult situations. Some of the villains get what's coming to them, and some of their evil deeds get uncovered, however, the author leaves us again wondering about many things with her delicious open ending. Fear not, the next book in on the horizon.
I suspected I was going to fall in love with this series, but now I'm sure. This is one of the bestest, funniest vampire stories ever. The author's beautiful writing, combined with her funny and original ideas, creates this craving addiction for more, and each book leaves me with an amazing feeling of happiness and a huge smile on my face. I couldn't love this series more.

This author never fails to give you a mystery. There are so many things happening all at once and you don't have a clue what's going to take place next. There are some humorous moments thrown in to keep the story a little lighter at times but make no mistake, bad things are going on in Arizona and it's up to Micheal to solve the mystery and maybe save the human and vampire race. As for Miriam, she's an enigma I've yet to figure out. I really don't see the chemistry between she and Micheal but I'm sure all will be explained in the next book. I have an idea but I'm sure it is no where near close to what we'll learn. Bring on Book 3 soon!

As one who enjoys vampire romance stories this one is better than a lot that has been read by me. Seemingly in both this and the first book the author follows the standard Hero's Journey without being obvious about it. The truest test is that each novel has the H.E.A... for now, ending. However, hopefully the author made a slight alteration in the upcoming third novel.

That alteration is simply the protagonists acknowledging their feelings and experiencing their future life together. Surely married couples also have stories worth telling? Even if the characters haven't quiet tied the knot... It would be very dissatisfying to read them choosing to reset their relationship back to zero, as many romance series seem to do, think do I.

As for the Happily Ever After... for now, ending. It simply is the only way a "romance" novel can end in the humble opinion of mine. Of course, Tragedy's can be great stories but life seems to tell enough of those all on its own. Besides, that is the basic difference between that and a Comedy... or in this case, specifically a romance. This is why genres exist, so the reader can know a few of the most basic traits that will be defining the story they experience, feel do I.

Reading and writing stories is a passion of mine, but that is only mentioned as to why "The Hero's Journey" is thought of highly by me. It is the most basic unobtrusive formula that every good epic story follows whether the author knows it or not, even if they create a manuscript by writing a thousand drafts, think do I. If done well, it is very easy to forget it's even there, feel do I.

And Ms. Jean does do it very well, in the opinion of mine. Hopefully the third book comes to her dreams soon, pray do I.

I happened to see this while looking at other titles and clicked on it just to see what it was about. Not my normal genre. But I was blown away! This is funny, intriguing, mysterious, and just plain fun! I am a librarian so this really hit home. Michael is an old, snobby, arrogant vampire who has met his match in quirky librarian Miriam who is not what she seems. This is a slow burn and is part of a series. It does not end on a cliffhanger but leaves you anticipating the next adventure these two will have within the storyline. I went into this book not knowing what to expect and had a great laugh and fun mystery. There is not a ton of depth to Miriam, but keep with the series and she will develop more. I won't put in spoilers, but nothing is what it seems and Michael's ordered world is about to explode. Add Miriam and Michael's best friend, who are both working behind the scenes trying to help, into the mix and it's a wonder the poor man can get out of bed in the mornings. Oh, how the mighty will fall!

Mimi Jean Pamfiloff's comedic sense is priceless. Some of the one-liners she gives her characters are unexpectedly funny amidst otherwise serious or dramatic scenes. I was quickly drawn into this story and its quirky characters from Mimi's creative imagination and did not want to put it down until the last word was read.

There's still more intrigue and mystery as things heat up for Michael and Miriam and it's not coming from the Phoenix climate. Getting answers only leads to more questions as Michael tries to keeps all the balls he's juggling in the air not to mention the deadline he's been given by the Council in regards to Miriam. It seems something ominous is happening despite Michael's best efforts to control the narrative. Highest on his list of priorities of protecting his librarian.

This awesome addition to the series is well-written, well-paced, with attraction, betrayal, danger, twists and surprises. The main characters are developed and our H is ready to protect and defend his heroine. Can't wait to read book 3 and get the goods on what's happening next. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book from this extremely talented author 🤗🤗.

At the end of the previous book after the “ special” party , Miriam saw her boyfriend Jeremy and Mr Aspen turn to dust ,as she was under the influence of drugs her memory is hazy . Michael finds himself in a dilemma with ultimatum issued from the creepy Mr Nice that he has a year to decide either to turn Miriam & marry her or If he doesn’t he’ll have to kill her , all the while there are people still trying to kidnap he’s certainly been kept on his toes . With the apparent deaths of Mr Aspen & Jeremy Michael also finds that he’s the leader of two districts, all the while he's trying to find the where a-bouts of the missing vampires always aided by his dear friend Lula . The story flows well , indeed theres a lot going on and with all the drama and danger to cap it all its obvious that someone is out to get Michael & Lula because of their vampire lineage . As usual the story is peppered with a lot of humour , one incident that made me really chuckle is when Michael feeds on two humans and is so full that he’s thinking of taking Tums 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Towards the end we get a trial I’m not saying who it involves ...so no spoilers ..the accused are bombard with very bad pop music whilst being locked in a coffin !! ...... hilarious 🤣 ( ok I have a weird sense of humour ) . On a more serious note someone emerges as one of the people responsible for betraying the vampire ruling council ,but it’s obvious he’s not acting alone . As you’d expect it ends on an OMG moment 😱😳 can’t wait for the next one 😉 .

Mimi has done it again. You have no choice but to hold on tight with both hands as you journey side by side with Michael. You'll experience highs and lows, twists and laugh out loud moments (more than once).

This series has done more for my mental health during this terrible covid19 lockdown than anything else, thank you Mimi for your brilliant, sharp, witty, imagination.

I highly recommend this series and this author, who is now one of my all time favourites.
