Product description

Highly-anticipated 2018 album from the veteran singer/songwriter. The Tree of Forgiveness is Prine's first collection of new material since 2005's Grammy-winning Fair and Square. Prine teamed with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb to record in Nashville's historic Studio A, enlisting friends like Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, and Amanda Shires to sing along. The songs are new, although some had waited to be finished for decades, like a co-write with Phil Spectro called "God Only Knows." Another incomplete song, "I Have Met My Love Today," now celebrates the unexpected spark that leads to lifelong romance - with a dash of youthful innocence. The musical arrangements may be simpler than on past efforts, yet his unique ability to distill complex emotions into everyday language remains fully intact. Rather than going out on a limb, Prine cultivated the themes that have brought international acclaim since the 1970s. For example, he can take a topic like loneliness and make it funny or heartbreaking.

Sadly this is John Prine’s last album. His voice betrays its age, but not in a detrimental way. His song writing abilities have not in any way deteriorated. John Prine will go down in history as one of the finest songwriters there ever was. If you are a “fan” of his, this album will not disappoint. I have been listening to this cd over and over.

Had never heard of John Prine before covid. Saw on a newsreel that he passed away. They said he died because of complications with covid. I googled him and was drawn to the way he delivers songs and the stories that are contained within each one. John Prine is no soprano but what he does with that acoustic guitar is spel!binding. He I my used thumb and forefinger, plays basic chords but plays it Travis style. A very difficult style to conquer. He has a good voice too in his early years it had a bit of a drawl in it but latterly due to a couple of cancer battles his voice is as battered and course as old Johnny Cash in his final years. Well that's no bad thing is it? His family sent him to a hotel room for a week with a box full of his lyrics and a couple of guitars and a ukelale. The results are astonishing. 10 songs that are cultured and steeped in that crackling vocal which once you hear it.....You know that this man has !over a full life. Each song tells a story and one song in particular I would say is up there with Lennon's Imagine....it's the Prine magic of "Summers End" which tells the story of a little girl losing her mother to drug abuse. That song alone is worth paying top dollar for this album. John Prine sings about a variety of subjects on this album from mortality, Planet P!uto , the Trump administration and for his love of his wife Fiona. I am 54 years old and have just discovered John Prine this year. Unbelievable! I have bought 10 of his 18 album released since his passing and have listened to no other artist. My little 5 year old daughter sings along with the songs too. Prine,is a relatively unknown artist here in UK and even in parts of the US too. John is charming and so likable as a person and that adds to his persona and the laid back way he drives these songs in his big Cadillac right into your heart. This is an amazing album and models when you know John's story. My life is so sweeter with John Prine in it.
