Starstruck (Discovered by Love) Kindle Edition
Nick Cleary has clawed his way to recognition as a Hollywood actor, but it’s long past time he get the chance to show he’s more than a pretty face and a chiseled set of abs. His big break comes in the form of a juicy lead role in a new steampunk fantasy series. There’s just one catch—casting has to be approved by the author… a woman he once devastated through his own youthful stupidity.
Christine is the last person to be starstruck by the handsome heartthrob, but as the clock ticks down to the cast announcement and Nick races to show that he’s really changed, she begins to wonder if there’s more to her ex than his Hollywood persona. Except now the consequences of being wrong no longer apply only to her career… but also to her carefully guarded heart.

Carla Laureano could never decide what she wanted to be when she grew up, so she decided to become a novelist–and she must be kinda okay at it because she's won two RWA RITA® Awards. When she's not writing, she can be found cooking and trying to read through her TBR shelf, which she estimates will be finished in 2054. She currently lives in Denver, Colorado with her husband, two teen sons, and an opinionated cat named Willow.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2018Starstruck (2018) by Carla Laureano is the second book in her Discovered by Love series. This book currently comes in eBook form, and is 92 pages in length. With a full-time job and a precocious six-year old at home, this book took me one sitting to read. I purchased a copy of this novel to review from Amazon on November 1, 2018. In no way has this influenced my opinion of the story. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. I give Starstruck 5 STARS. This book is a Clean Contemporary Romance.
Oh my, did I LOVE Starstruck by Carla Laureano. This book is exactly the sort of thing a romance-loving girl wants to read on a lazy Saturday afternoon. This is the very first book by Laureano that I have read, but it most definitely will not be the last! I enjoyed everything about this book: the writing is superb and very well done, the story line is highly engaging, and the characters are drawn perfectly. Starstruck is an excellent example of a book that packs a lot into a small amount of pages. I definitely ended this story feeling satisfied!
The heroine of this story, Christine, is a popular author. She is five books into a highly-acclaimed series, and is at FanFest in London to announce that her books are being turned into a TV show. What I love so much about Christine is getting an inside look into the mind of an author. I enjoyed Christine’s internal dialogue when a fan would ask for her autograph and picture. The fact that Christine is shocked by her fame is so real to life, at least based on all the authors I’ve ever met. They are truly some of the most humble people I’ve ever had the privilege to meet. In addition to this, I very much enjoyed watching Christine as she would go through her writing process. The way the characters would take over in her head, forcing her to write no matter what, seemed so true to real-life writers. All of this boils down to one very funny, highly engaging, and endearing heroine.
I appreciate Laureano’s theme that failing does not make one a failure. I feel that somewhere along the way we’ve lost this important message. Today, it seems like people are so fearful of failure that many do nothing at all. But failing at something is NOT the same as failure. How can we learn if we don’t make a mistake or two every now and then? As Henry Ford once said, “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.” And, this is something that Christine really gets by the end of Starstruck. When we learn from our mistakes and failures we become the people God means for us to be!
I cannot recommend Starstruck enough. This book definitely packs a punch, and will stick with me long after the final pages have turned. If you are looking for a highly engaging and well written Contemporary Romance to escape into on a lazy afternoon, Starstruck is most definitely the book for you!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2018This is a contemporary love story with great characters and an interesting storyline. Although it’s novella length, the storyline feels complete and not rushed. I enjoyed reading this shorter story.
I do want to make one note about this book: It’s a clean book with no foul language. I would not put it in the “Christian fiction” category because there’s no emphasis on the characters’ faith. However, that doesn’t detract from the book for me because that’s not the intent of the author in writing this particular series. I’m mentioning this only because this author does write in the Christian fiction genre.
Although I’m on the author’s launch team, I purchased this book myself. All opinions are my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2018For me, this clean contemporary novella was an interesting look into steampunk fiction and a FanFest. It was really interesting to learn more about that genre while still reading one of my favorite genres - contemporary romance.
I really liked Christine. I especially loved how hard she worked to get to be a published author. Her perseverance was very admirable. I found her very interesting as she worked to impress her fans and pushed herself to be what her career needed. I liked Nick too, and in a very similar way. He had quite a knack for perseverance as well!
This novella was a quick read but Laureano managed to fit in comical scenes, serious conversations, fun dates, awkward moments, and steamy kisses. And she had a great plot twist that caught me off guard. It was really neat to go through the book with these characters. They weren't perfect people, but they were really fun to get to know. And the setting of London made it even better. While I haven't been, I have friends who have and have seen lots of pictures and heard lots of stories and it made the book even better. I really like international setting in books.
I am on the author's launch team, but I purchased my own copy of this book and this review is my honest opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2019This was a fun read of reuniting with a lost love. I enjoyed it but didn't love it. It had some humor, some fun story lines, but just didn't wow me. I enjoyed it, but I won't read it again and it won't remember the story in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2021I just finished re-reading this 12 chapter novella & was surprised to realize I had never rated it. I don't read a lot of novellas because there's not enough time to give the story much depth, & so they tend to feel superficial. This book is DEFINITELY one of the exceptions.
The author does a brilliant job of giving us the protagonists' past, present & future in an efficient way that keeps things believable, while also delivering character growth, a little humor & a little pathos, wrapped in a very satisfying romance!
*Romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely unputdownable in the best way
Ever since I read Five Days In Skye by Carla Laureano, when a Laureano book comes out I’m all grabby hands and drop EVERYTHING else to read. So, of course, then came Starstruck.
What a delight! I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this story and I could totally see this as a movie. Christine and Nick have quite a time coming to terms with their past and moving ahead into some kind of future. My favorite scene is when he has a wardrobe malfunction and Nick is the only one around to help her out of a tight spot, literally.
Although peppered with laugh-out-loud moments, this story is endearing, tender and thoroughly enjoyable. The perfect read for the beach or in front of a roaring fire….or since I can’t get to either, curled up with cats at your feet!
Laureano writes character-driven stories and her characters are complex. She has a knack of keeping the action going, keeping you guessing, and keeping you unable to put it down.
And as a bonus, we get to travel to London vicariously through the characters. I highly recommend this story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, engaging, and satisfying
If you’re looking for a quick, fun romance read, this is your ticket. Nick and Christine have chemistry aplenty, supercharged by the tension that remains between them after the way they separated several years ago. But chemistry isn’t the be-all and end-all in a relationship, and there’s some great depth to this story too, short though it is, as they consider where things went wrong for them before. Well, apart from the obvious: "that TV interview”.
Nick accepts responsibility for “being a moron” and is keen to show Christine not only that he’s changed but that he’s the right person to play her hero, Jackson Landry. And it seems no demand Christine levels at him is too outlandish! Christine, meanwhile, is forced to look deeper inside herself, beneath the sultry steam-punk public image she has crafted to the bookish sweatshirt-loving introvert she really is. Is her carefully crafted image just good PR, or is there more to it than that?
If I was going to level any complaint at this story, it would be that the climax and resolution felt a little rushed, but that didn’t stop it from being just the pick-me-up read I needed. Fun, engaging, satisfying, and perfect for a quick read.
I purchased my own copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.
