Product description
Snow Globe is a collection of original compositions and seasonal classics, and follows Erasure's 2011 album, Tomorrow's World.
Unlike the bells and whistles, glitter and tinsel sets that crowd the market come Christmas-time, Snow Globe is possessed of something more in the wistfully, strangely subdued celebratory mould of recent seasonal albums by Tracey Thorn and Kate Bush. 'We managed to strip everything back to bare essentials,' Vince says approvingly of the minimal approach Erasure took for this recording. "'White Christmas almost has a drone all the way through it. I love that."
The first single, 'Gaudete', is Erasure's take on the traditional Latin carol, which will be recognisable by many after Steeleye Span's version in the early 70s.
"I haven't actually heard him sing better," says Vince of Andy stepping back into the booth. "I found my inner choirboy again," says Andy. "I thought I'd lost him but he was there all along."
Formed 28 years ago, the award-winning songwriting duo of Vince Clarke and Andy Bell unleashed on the nation a succession of both influential and chart-topping pop anthems of the '80s, '90s through to today. Songs like 'A Little Respect', 'Sometimes', 'Victim Of Love', 'Ship Of Fools', 'Blue Savannah', 'Star', 'Chains Of Love', 'The Circus', 'Who Needs Love (Like That)', 'Love To Hate You', 'Drama!', "Always" and "Breathe," ensured a formidable presence on the singles charts complemented by five consecutive No 1 albums (including The Innocents, Wild! and Chorus) and the beginning of the worldwide Abba revival, 'Abba-esque'.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 December 2013A mixture of traditional Christmas songs and new Erasure tracks, all with the trademark Erasure sound. As another reviewer has said, this is quite a dark album. Rather than go for a bright, cheery sound, Andy and Vince have done a wonderful job of tempering the joy with offbeat rhythms, discordant bells and the arrangements trimmed down to the essentials. It makes the Christmas album that most artists release at some point in their careers rather different, and it works very well.
Interestingly, my favourite tracks on this CD are the traditional songs and carols that Erasure have arranged in their inimitable style. "Bleak Midwinter" has never sounded better. "Gaudete" is a good choice for a single, with Maddy Prior in the mix (must be a sample as she is not credited). I usually play A Tapestry of Carols when I put up my decorations, but this year, it'll be Erasure!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 October 2022The new Erasure material here is on par with their best whilst the spooky interpretations of Christmas classics are pure genius. Remains a favourite of their nearly 40 years together and I normally hate cover versions. These are so reinvented almost like originals.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 November 2013A truly wonderful masterpiece by the two fellas. Some awesome sounding tracks. Yes, a bit dance'y in places, a bit christmas'y in others and Commodore64 in others (yep, Vince has brought back the SID chip in my opinion). Overall, a marvelous album, worth every penny. One of my favourite albums (have them all). Not since Chorus have I enjoyed the album on first play from the first track to end. A few of the songs giving me those wonderful spine tingles. If you have any doubt, DONT. ORDER now!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 December 2013This album is a tribute to Andy Bell's partner of 25 years (Paul Hickey). He died last year, but always wanted Erasure to make a Christmas album. I am glad they finally did. This is an excellent album that I have listened to many times this festive season and I expect I will sneak the odd listen at other times of year! This is not only my favourite Christmas album but is a real return to form for Erasure. Vince Clarke and Andy Bell are both at the top of their game. Who needs a choir?! Gaudete is the song that made me buy this. It is so upbeat and beautifully sung. I also love the lyrics to this old Latin carol which are wonderfully articulated here. All of Erasures original compositions included here are thankfully far better than those on their previous album. Even the now seemingly obligatory atheist chorus (in this case on opener "Bells of Love") in no way spoils this album: "I don't believe in your religion / I only know what I can see". This is because it is drowned in the religious sentiments of the chosen carols, and especially Ruth Heller's composition "Sleep Quietly"(which Katherine Jenkins fans will recognise). I equally love Erasure's version of "In the Bleak Midwinter". Admittedly there are a few tracks I often skip due to general over-familiarity ("The Christmas Song", the strange version of "White Christmas" and sometimes "Silent Night"). However the other tracks are so good I didn't deduct a star for this. The dropped star is in protest to Erasure not including a version of their now hard-to-find "God rest ye merry gentleman", from the "Crackers International Part II" EP. A redux version was included with other bonus tracks on an expensive pre-order only special boxset edition of the album that few of us had a chance to own. I hate these modern marketing ploys!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 December 2014Reviews about music are subjective to the reviewers taste - if you don't like Erasure then you probably won't like this! I however, love them and love this. It's basically their reworking of some Christmas carols and classics, with a couple of original songs thrown in. My particular favourites are 'Gaudette' and 'Silent Night', which I find eerily beautiful. I also bought Annie Lennox's Christmas album, and although I think she's a fabulous singer, I much prefer the Erasure offering.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 January 2014I was a bit concerned when I heard that good old Erasure would put out a christmas album. But it turned out quite good. The 5 new Erasure songs are all great. The old songs get new life in Erasures electronic packing.
Vince Clarkes synth sounds really good and Andy Bell sings better than ever. This album is a nice positve surpise :)
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 December 2013what another excellent offering from such a talented group ,I am a huge fan of the erasure experience, cant get enough! Andys voice coupled with Vinces electronic excellence and song writing, I wish they could have another huge hit ,they deserve it, xmas songs done the erasure way so refreshing, mixed with new awesome tracks A*
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 December 2013I love this album. Especially the original Erasure songs and the cover of Bleak Midwinter. Personally I would have liked the cover artwork to have gone down a more serious and slick route (it looks like the cover of a karaoke album), but that's a minor gripe. Highly recommended. I've been listening to it all Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Erasure en estado puro
Por ejemplo Make it wonderful, simplemente un diez.

5.0 out of 5 stars Überraschung gelungen

5.0 out of 5 stars A favorite holiday album
I had listened to this digitally for years and got it on vinyl this year. It is so good and has more tracks than the digital version I have. There are two LPs with great packaging. It is a must for any Erasure fan!
