He’s determined to leave his past behind. She’s committed to a new and better future. But a guarded heart and an inability to trust may be too much to overcome, even in paradise.
Sometimes leaving your life behind to start over where nobody knows you is the only solution. That’s exactly what Archer Wolfe is trying to do, and the pretty little blond in the tight tank top just might be the person to help. Working together to run a charter business on her sailboat seems like the perfect solution for both of them, at least it would be if he could convince her to give in to the growing heat between them that’s only getting harder to ignore and quickly becoming more than just physical. Much more.
Cass Cutler’s life is full—of nothing. Unless you count a dead end job and a pathetic excuse for a relationship with her boss—and she doesn’t. So when she gets word that her estranged father is presumed dead, and she’s the new owner of his yacht located in Panama, she jumps at the chance for change. And what better place for a new start than the picture perfect beaches and crystal clear water of the San Blas Islands, especially when they come complete with an unreasonably gorgeous man who’s become the star of her very naughty dreams. Now all Cass needs to do is a figure out a way to keep their increasing attraction from distracting her as she attempts to save her inheritance—and her heart—before she loses everything?

I received an ARC from the author in return for an honest review.
I am so glad Archer finally got his story, and what a story it was! Cass is a great choice for him. She's spunky and feisty. She has a soft side, and a hard side. She's been through a lot and is still kicking. I bet these two will have an awesome adventure in life together.
4.75 stars This was such a cute, sweet, happy, light-hearted, and feel-good story. I loved the characters and found the lessons they learned very understandable and relatable. I was drawn into the plot right away and was entertained throughout. It was the perfect escape and thoroughly enjoyable! I cannot wait for book 2!!! I received this book from the author for an honest review.
Cass has nothing going in her life but a boring job and terrible love life, so when she learns she’s inherited her estranged and presumed-dead dad’s yacht in Panama, she takes off with little hesitation. She quickly finds out that dear old dad left her with a steep marina bill she has no money to pay.
Archer likes his small-town life in the Canadian Rockies, but when he visits Panama, he’s surprised to find he likes the tropics even more. He wants to stay longer but has to find the money to extend his adventure.
Thus, a plan is hatched, with Cass and Archer starting a charter business to take tourists around the beautiful islands and reefs. They agree to keep it professional; he’s not looking for a relationship and she’s been burned too many times. . . .
Shelter by the Sea is a fun, breezy read with likeable characters and a laid-back vibe. The idyllic tropical setting dominates the book, in a good way, and made me daydream about escaping to a quiet life in the tropics working on a boat all day. Cass and Archer’s attraction is instant, though they try to keep it at bay, and it’s fun (most of the time) to watch their relationship with each other and their surroundings develop. There were some frustrating points with Cass’s indecision and fear of being left again, but overall a really nice story in a captivating setting that makes me smile when I remember reading it.
This is the story of Cass Cutler and Archer Wolfe. For different reasons, they have both moved to Shelter Bay, Colon, Panama. Cass moved from her safe job as an account manager for Munchies Food Distribution where she had been having an affair with her married boss. When she resigned, he laughed. She had received a letter informing that her father, who she had not seen in 20 years, was presumed dead. Cass was listed as the next of kin, and was asked to go to Colon, Panama for further instructions. Her friend, Angie encouraged her to go because ' you only live once', Yolo, and Cass's life is at a dead end. To her surprise, she inherits a 50 foot sailing yacht, that is named after her, Cassiopeia', that comes along with a bill for $30,000 in berthing fees. Archer lived in a small mountain town in the Canadian Rockies. His friends gave a 2 week vacation in Panama to him so he could see another part of the world. He surprises himself, and loves the heat, the beaches and the crystal blue water, but he wants to stay longer and has run out of money. He runs into Cass his first night and morning he finds her extremely attractive and would like to 'hit the sack' with her. Cass also finds herself very attracted to him. Since he has cooking experience, he gets hired as a chef for a 2 day cruise to the San Blas Islands. He also manages to secure a berth for Cass. With her new "Yolo" attitude, she agrees to go. When she sails on the catamaran, she remembers how much she loved sailing with her dad when she was younger. When they stop to snorkel in a small bay, Cass swims to a small island where she meets Josie. IT turns out Josie was in love with Cuss's Roger, Cass's dad and ran a small outdoor B&B for people who wanted to spend time with nature. Josie does not believe Roger is dead, but was following his 'traveling' spirit. It is on this cruise Cass gets the idea that she could use the Cassiopeia to also do such cruises. Archer, much to his surprise offers to be her crew and her chef. Cass will only except his offer if their relationship is professional. She has some major commitment issues after her father and another boyfriend left with no explanation. Needless to say there are other storylines going on but the main story is of Cass and Archer. They refurbish the boat together and take the boat on a few test runs, where all the time spent together turns into love. They book their charter. There are some problems, but the charter goes well. The book ends with the success of their charter and their newfound love. There is so much more to learn about Panama, the San Blas Islands and the people who live there. I enjoy Ms. Aiken's books and this could be the start of a great new series. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I think this is my favorite book so far by Elena Aitken and I’ve read many. I don’t know if it’s the great story about Archer and Cass or the setting in a beautiful Paradise. Either way the book was great and also a great escape from everyday life. It starts out with Cass and her boring life with a loser of a boyfriend who happens to be her boss. She finds out her father is dead, whom she hasn’t seen in many years and she has inherited a boat in Panama. So she decides to go down and start a new life. While there, she meets Archer who himself is starting a new life. He left Canada feeling he needed to be free and find himself. So far he has landed in Panama and when he meets Cass he isn’t in a hurry to move on. The two of them feel sparks and set out to turn Cass’s father’s boat into a charter business with a few bumps along the way. I love the way Aitken writes going back and forth between the characters. Her characters are always so real and fresh. There also is always surprises in the story lines and this one was no different. I’ll glad this is a first in a Destination Paradise series as I can see many more books out of this initial one. I received this for an honest review and so glad I did.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, the opinions expressed are my own.
This is a really nice story, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was good to have a story about Archer, and in a totally different setting to all the other stories in the series. Panama sounds like a really good place to visit. Archer Wolfe is a typical backwoodsman who never envisaged any other sort of life. When he is forced to take a holiday he finds that he loves travelling, and wants to do more of it. Cass Cutler is forced to go to Panama to sort out her father's personal effects after he has been declared dead after being missing for three years. She finds a very large boat, and massive fees to pay as the boat has been moored at the marina for three years, and she has no money. She hasn't seen her father for twenty years. She meets Archer on her first night in Panama, and there is an instant attraction between them.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Well, what I can say? Definitely, I loved it. I can't wait for the second book in this series.
Although I must admit that more than once I wanted to slap Cass by his indecision: "I want to but I can't." And poor Archer wanting more from her, but she didn't budge. It was a little frustrating. But, as always, love triumphed. I want to read more about this couple.
On the other hand, I wondered if whether or not really exists a place called Shelter Bay in Panamá, then I Googled and when I saw what is really Shelter Bay, I was delighted with the place. A good place to visit, maybe.
Another story of this author that didn't disappointed me.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The book was well written and thought out but it was just a ‘good’ read for me. I felt there were too many things going on in the story that are probably laying the foundation for a new series and found there were quite a few ‘side’ stories that just didn’t add much. Again, this is my opinion and others may enjoy it so there you go. I liked Archer and Cass but for me, it would have been more enjoyable to concentrate on their issues and their road to an HEA. I will say again that the author’s writing is great, no hard to read grammar issues, the story was just not a favorite for me.
3.5 rating. I love this author, but I found a lot wrong with this book. I'm not big on wishy washy characters. First Cass wanted Archer, then she didn't, then she wanted him again, then she didn't. She didn't care about her dad because of the past, then she did, went on and on to where I wanted to jump forward in the book. I really loved Archers character, saved the book for me, along with Angie, Josie was interesting too, just didn't care for Cass at all. Loved the Panama setting, Barbecue Island sounded amazing along with Cassiopeia. What a gift to have a boat like that in that setting!
I was given this ARC book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read Archer's story. Archer goes in search of something but, doesn't know what. He left his home where he's lived his entire life surrounded by the best of friends. He's watched all them marry off and find the person that fits. Yet, hasn't really looked for that him self. His friends give him a ticket to travel and that is exactly what he's done. Until he runs into Cass suddenly life is a little brighter. Will she feel the same or continue to run like her Dad did to her all them years ago?
Take me to the water and let me read, Shelter by the Sea with my toes in the sand! This is the 5 star story of Archer and Cass. They have left the US and traveled to Panama, Archer for the adventure and Cass to find her Father. What they find together is a mystery to solve and passion that is as hot as the sun in this tropical Paradise. This is an awesome book from the first page to the last. Elena Aitken books are sexy, intriguing and just that good. I highly recommend to everyone!
Loved Archer story so glad he is finally finding his place in life and that Cass was also able to find hers. Love the new series that Elena is starting up with the Destination Paradise and the new characters being introduced. Love the little bit of mystery and a lot of romance well written Elena I can not wait for more to see where everyone goes. Castle Mountain and Stone Summit need to come for a holiday.
I had the honor to review this wonderful book for the author. Cases and Archers story is truly amazing. You will be on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next to these two. Josie is a remarkable person that people notice as soon as they meet her. The way Elena describes places and scenes in this story makes you feel like you can just picture what the characters in this book are seeing. You won't be able to stop reading this book.
Elena transports her readers from the mountains of Canada to the beaches of Panama in this story. Readers meat Archer in here other books and he finally gets his HOT romance in Panama! Cass is looking for information about what happened to her father and Archer is looking for his place in life. Will they each find what that missing piece in each other. This is a great summer read and will leave you wanting more Panama! I received an ARC of this book for my review.
rcvd an ARC of this book for a review. I quite enjoyed the read. cass finds out she inherits her fathers boat in panama and she ventures down there and meets sexy canadian archer. sparks fly between them but she cant bring herself to fall for him as she is trying to solve the mystery of her father. however, archer is smitten with cass and will do anything to win her over.
Good story. I've enjoyed The Springs and the Castle Mountain Lodge series by Elena Aitken and was eager to read about one of the characters from The Springs on his adventure in Panama. Lots of chemistry between Cass and Archer, and a bit of mystery as Cass tries to discover what happened with her father. I enjoyed this story and look forward to more in this new series.
I totally fell in love with this book from the moment that I started reading it. It moved along at a great pace, has amazing characters, a fantastic story and takes place in a awesome location. I cannot wait to read more from this this amazing author in this wonderful new series. This has to be read, there is no doubt about it.
Once again Elena has pulled me in and hooked me!! I feel like I have been waiting for Archer"s story for forever!!! Loved this book and love Archer and Cass, sweetness and desire and a happy ever after!!
I received this book as an ARC. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Archer and learning more of his story. Cass definitely had a hard life. But with the two of them together. It was definitely fireworks. An absolutely amazing read.
Cass comes to Panama in search of her father who left her years before. He has been missing for several years. But his boat is still at the dock. No one knows what happened. Archer has come to Panama to start an adventure and get in some traveling. He figures to work to make enough money to move on to the next adventure. Then he meets Cass. They decide to work together to start a charter business so Cass can pay the past due dock fees. And Archer can get money to move on. As they work on the business, they meet people who give Cass clues to where her Dad may be. Can they solve the mystery? Will they both pull down the walls they have built to find happiness together?
Cass is in a job she is not thrilled with and a relationship going nowhere when she finds out her father is missing and presumed dead. She hadnt seen or heard from her dad in years and now must go to Panama to deal with his boat. Archer is a man who doesn't want a relationship and loved his life in his small town but his friends made him do some traveling as a present for his birthday. They meet, fall into a friend's with benefits situation with a sizzle like none either has ever felt. They start a charter boat business, she discovers the truth about her dad and her true feelings for Archer. A decent and good read for a new series
This was an ok read for me. The characters were interesting enough, the plot was solid enough too and the setting was interesting.
I felt that, however, the plot sometimes meandered and I lost the thread at times. I felt it took a bit of time to pick the thread up again. It didn’t quite blow me away.
Such a cute story! Cass decides to pack up her life and go to Panama to handle her fathers affairs. While there she finds she is the owner of a boat, and while she’s there she decides to have that fling her best friend so desperately pushes her to have! You’ll be rooting for Cass and Archer by the end!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
There are no surprises awaiting you here. Everything is as it should be. Desperation, sexual tension, poor choices made when emotions are high, misunderstanding and miscommunication, and of course a HEA.
PG13 for sexual content, mild language. No violence.
I was totally drawn into this book. It was very hard to put down.
This book was extremely well written, very descriptive, and it literally takes you away to Panama. Cannot wait to see what else Elena has up her sleeve next.
Interesting story about charters on a sailboat. Cass he come to Panama to find the boat her father left before he disappeared. She finds the answers and also the love she needs.
The story line was good. The characters well developed. I am joyed the tropical setting and descriptions. The ending was good but unexpected and I would read more of her books.
Ummm... went to leave a review and only one of five stars were visible. That was a first! Anyway, overall this was a good story, just REALLY slow moving. There's no cheating between the Cass and Archer. No cliffhanger. And, the story ends on a happy note. 🧐
This main character shows so much depth, character, determination, strength, love, curiosity, desire, you name it will be found. Loved this journey that this story takes you on. Great book.
