Shelter by the Sea (Destination Paradise Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 583 ratings

He’s determined to leave his past behind. She’s committed to a new and better future. But a guarded heart and an inability to trust may be too much to overcome, even in paradise.

Cass Cutler's life is full—of nothing. So when she gets the news that she's inherited her father's yacht, there's no reason not to head to paradise for a new start on the picture perfect beaches and the crystal clear waters of Panama for a fresh start. Learning how to sail and operate a boat is just the challenge she needs.

When Archer Wolfe arrived in Panama he was looking for a change of scenery and maybe a bit of adventure, he was definitely not looking for a relationship. But a feisty little blond in a tight tank top fiercely determined to prove she can handle the big boat she somehow inherited, could change all of that. If only he can convince her to give in to their desire.

Despite their attraction, the last thing Cass wants or needs, is another man in her life who’s just going to leave. Archer is nothing more than fantasy, and he needs to stay that way if she hopes to save her inheritance—and her heart—before she loses everything.

What a great start to a new series! Cass was in a dead end job in Seattle until she received a letter from Panama regarding her estranged father. She left Seattle to go to Panama to see what happened to her father. When she gets there, she runs into Archer in a dark stairwell. He thinks she is someone else and kisses her. He immediately knows it wasn’t who he thought she was, but he continues the kiss. He is a Canadian that came to visit Panama, but has stayed for awhile. Cass’ father has a yacht that has been docked for the three years he has been missing. Cass owes quite a bit of money for the docking fees and ends up starting a charter. She hires Archer to help her.

Cass has always been upset about her father leaving her when she was young and never hearing from him again. She feels all men leave her. Cass and Archer hook up before she decides to use the yacht to start a charter. Once he his working for her, she doesn’t think it is right to hook up with an employee. Archer thinks thinks that is crap, but decides to take his time to break her down. I loved how they banter back and forth. You could feel the sizzle between the two. I also was glad to see Cass meet Josie who had known her father and loved him. Josie was a good woman and had a soothing way with people. There was also some strained times in the story. I loved it when Archer had to cook on a charter for one woman he had sex with in the past, one that was trying to have sex with him, and him wanting Cass. That made for some interesting challenges. I really enjoyed the book and strongly encourage you to read it.

Cass comes to Panama in search of her father who left her years before. He has been missing for several years. But his boat is still at the dock. No one knows what happened. Archer has come to Panama to start an adventure and get in some traveling. He figures to work to make enough money to move on to the next adventure. Then he meets Cass. They decide to work together to start a charter business so Cass can pay the past due dock fees. And Archer can get money to move on. As they work on the business, they meet people who give Cass clues to where her Dad may be. Can they solve the mystery? Will they both pull down the walls they have built to find happiness together?

Shelter by the Sea was such an enjoyable read! Elena's books make me want to pack up the necessity's an move to Panama just to start over on a grand adventure.

Cass shows up in Panama to take care of a boat left behind by her father, and search for answers on his random disappearance. Archer is a true mountain man, and was forced by friends to pack a bag and go on a new adventure in Panama. What surprises him most? How much he connects with and loves the island... he's even more intrigued by the mystery woman that shows up in town looking for answers about her father.

The two of them decide to go into business together running a charter business with Cass's father's boat, but while they're at it, they MUST resist one another. Cass does her best to stay away from Archer, but that is much easier said than done.

This book was extremely well written, very descriptive, and it literally takes you away to Panama. Cannot wait to see what else Elena has up her sleeve! Well done!

A nice couple getting their acts together as the author moves from the Canadian Rockies down to the tropics. Archer is conflicted between his new found wanderlust and his attraction to Cass. And Cass' abandonment issues and strong need for Archer drive this mature read. The cast of characters are well rounded and believable and the story moves right along with a minimum slow points.

Cass is in an unfulfilling job and even more unfulfilling relationship when she gets the news that her father is presumed dead and, as his next of kin, has to do something about his boat in Panama. It's been a long time since Cass has seen her father but she needs a break from her life so she goes. Cass is ready to focus on paying off her father's debts and isn't looking for attachments. Archer has been in Panama since his friends bought him a trip for his birthday. He plans to see the world and isn't looking for attachments. The chemistry these two have from the second they met help them work together to get a business rolling.

I loved Archer; he's charming and funny. I haven't read the Spring Series that he was introduced in but this book quickly moved the series to the top of my TBR. Cass is so strong. She takes all of the news of her father and the speed bumps put in her path in stride. Between the beautiful location and the chemistry between Cass and Archer, I couldn't put this story down. I can't wait for Book 2 in the series!!

The author may as well had kept them in bed throughout the entire book! The lust was too much as he couldn’t seem to think of anything other than kissing and screwing her like a teenaged boy! Through all of her narration about what each thought and felt, she didn’t allow her to communicate to him what Samson said to her at the party. There were too many unfinished sentences that did nothing but confuse you even more. Could’ve been better…☹️

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok read.

This was an ok read for me. The characters were interesting enough, the plot was solid enough too and the setting was interesting.

I felt that, however, the plot sometimes meandered and I lost the thread at times. I felt it took a bit of time to pick the thread up again. It didn’t quite blow me away.
