Rubicon: Aurora Resonant Book Two (Amaranthe 8) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 294 ratings

“We are you—the you that you could have been.”
The Anaden Directorate has ruled Amaranthe for millennia, subjugating species and galaxies in a neverending quest for control and order. For as many millennia, the anarchs have rebelled, defiantly claiming their own freedom yet without hope of winning it for everyone. Now, an alliance with humans offers a tantalizing chance to at last defeat their immortal masters. But can they trust an ally who looks suspiciously like the enemy?

Humanity is the genetic recreation of the Anadens, but genetics aren’t everything. Humans like to make their own destiny, and they have overcome great challenges to achieve unprecedented peace and prosperity. But have their trials prepared them for the enemy they now face?

“The battle for the heart and soul of Amaranthe will be joined, and we must be unafraid.”
Amidst the chaos of an escalating war, Caleb’s bond with the mysterious diati grows ever more powerful, even as Alex’s forays into the hidden dimensions of the universe lead them to unfathomable places. But when the anarchs are pushed to the breaking point and the AEGIS fleet is dealt a devastating blow, Miriam Solovy must find a way to defeat a foe wielding superior technology, firepower and numbers, or else more than one civilization will be lost.
*
Our universe is but a snowglobe—an experiment born of desperation and hope. The true universe is unfathomably vast, teeming with life and untold wonders. And it is enslaved. Created by ancient aliens in a daring gambit to understand the nature of the enemy, humanity is now asked to be the savior of a universe not their own. If they are to succeed, they must rise above not only their fractious past but the sins of their genetic ancestors to boldly embrace a future they never dared imagine possible.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

G. S. JENNSEN lives somewhere in the U.S., in a locale that may or may not be where she lived the last time she published a book (she’s a gypsy at heart), with her husband and two dogs. She has become an internationally bestselling author since her first novel, Starshine, was published in 2014. She has chosen to continue writing under an independent publishing model to ensure the integrity of her stories and her ability to execute on the vision she has for their telling.

While she has been a lawyer, a software engineer and an editor, she’s found the life of a full-time author preferable by several orders of magnitude. When she isn’t writing, she’s gaming or working out or getting lost in the mountains that loom large outside the windows in her home. Or she’s dealing with a flooded basement, or standing in a line at Walmart and wondering who all these people are (because she’s probably new in town). Or sitting on her back porch with a glass of wine, looking up at the stars, trying to figure out what could be up there.

Lots of missing pages EDITED
I have been spending more time reading this amazing series than any other since The foundation. Great writing. Great balance of subject matter. Believable science.Edit: I discovered that the entire book had not downloaded for some reason. I tapped the icon and it got the rest. I find it fascinating that it did not leave chunk off the end, but random pages.Ignore my earlier unfounded rant. But the Kindle version has a ton of pages that cannot be displayed which is thoroughly ruining the story. Too much going on that does not relate easily between the page before and the page after the error.

DON'T MISS THIS BOOK OR THIS SERIES!!! Once again, Ms. Jennsen has raised her already formidably high bar to another higher level. With deft passages that flow easily into the next into the next the tale unfolds on multiple levels that keep evolving into more and more intriguing situations and satisfying resolutions. The depth of the characters has always been superb and they continue to grow upon the reader in this latest edition. I would not start reading this book for two days after receiving it as I knew that as soon as I started it, I would be soon done with it. Now that I am finished I am only sated for a bit, and enjoying the afterglow of a great read with renewed enthusiasm for the final installation. As I did after finishing the seventh book in the series, I will after a time reread the entire series until the new book arrives. And I am sure that this amazing story of Ms. Jennsen's, will take its' place alongside the few other great stories that I reread from time to time due to the massive enjoyment that unfolds within its' pages. Well done, Ms. Jennsen, well done!!!

First, let me say that if you are just discovering this wonderful writer, buy book 1 of this series (Starshine) immediately!! You will not be disappointed!! GS Jennsen has consistently engaged her readers with an exciting, thought-provoking, character driven, fun, sexy, storyline throughout this series. You will fall in love with her characters, both human, not so human, and totally not human! She will transport you far into unknown territory, physically and metaphorically. And she never fails to surprise! Rubicon, (book #8) has some humdinger plot twists and a couple of very surprising turn of events. And the ending is amazing!! Thank goodness Jennsen is a fast writer because I need to know what happens next!! However, book 9 will be the finale to this wonderful ride we've all been on, but, knowing GS, the ending will be profound, completely absorbing, and surprising! I urge all of you who haven't experienced this series to jump right in, it's an E ticket ride!!

Having fallen in love with G S Jennsen's Aurora Rhapsody at the very beginning, with Starshine, I now have a home in the lands of Aurora and Amaranthe. Rubicon lives up to, maybe even surpasses the great writing Ms. Jennsen gives us. The term "wordsmith" was invented for her. Some of the passages in her books just knock my socks off with her choice of words and the way she puts them together. So her descriptions of characters, of places, of situations, bring everything to life. And the ingenuity! Wow! The universe(s) that she has created, and the plot(s) that run through the series are amazingly unique. And yet, the FLOW of all of these situations and the people involved is still perfection. My feelings will be bitter-sweet when the final book Requiem is published----yet here I am thinking "Oh, I just can't wait for Requiem"!

Wonderful story, superb plots, gifted writing describe Jennsen's latest work. She continues to craft interesting stories that compel the reader to not set the book down. Absolutely outstanding. How many books have you read where you arrive at the conclusion the author could have taken the story one way or another in the betterment of the plot or the telling? Not so with Jennsen's works. She builds the reader's desire for movement forward in plot and character development, shifts between plots smoothly and elegantly tying them together as she goes. As the story matures it delivers satisfaction in the ending climax of the story. These works of hers call to mind "The Lord of The Rings" type of epic stories. Sure would love to see these works on the big screen. They'd make wonderful epics similar to "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" but for more demanding viewers that want to be challenged while being entertained. Buy these books, you'll love them.

I finished Rubicon last night. Quite a change from a simpler, harder military Sci-Fi I was reading before, but very quickly the book reminded me why I like the Aurora Rhapsody Saga. It's well-written, with a lot of focus on the characters instead of on the space battles, so a very good example of Space Opera. Quite a few surprises revealed in this book, in a way I just couldn't put it down.

I especially like in the series as a whole that we see not just the best that humanity can be (and the worst), but we see the path to get there. That's explored in the previous two trilogies, so note for the newcomers: you want to start from the scratch. The author's website has the recommended reading order.

With each installment of her wonderful series, "Aurora Rhapsody", Ms Jennsen pulls the reader through an ever expanding multi-universe of thrilling military action, self sacrifice, emotion and suspense. Her well-rounded and extremely bright characters will have you pulling for them as they continue to develope the new technology
required to fight back against an unforgiving enemy which has subjected a wide array of life forms to a demeaning servitude. Jennsen's heroes will have the reader wondering if they are up to facing each new challenge of defeating an alien race that literally does not die. "Aurora Resonant" is the eighth book of this enthralling saga. Not just another space opera, but a Space Rhapsody.

Just finished this book. It was epic as the ones before it have been. They just keep getting better. If you like space novels, this is for you, if you like great character drama and relationships, this is for you, if you like emotional rides, this is for you, if you like epic battles again this is for you! There is so much more as well, politics, societal commentary, technological exploration. The creation of a world so like ours and so different. Feels like a true glimpse at what a real future could be, and probably is in some segment of the multiverse if that is your thing. I have said enough, just buy it and read it, if you have read the rest of the series, if not, buy them and read them too!

Love love love this series, mindbending science that sounds perfectly reasonable when explained in context, no spoonfeeding required. A huge cast of vivid characters that have you cheering them on, laughing at their humour and secretly booing the villains when they enter scenes. I kind of want to move to Aurora to meet the characters in the flesh and touch the stars. Keep them coming this is some of the best scifi i have ever read easily on a par with peter hamilton in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, just wow!
Reviewed in Australia on June 12, 2017
I finished Rubicon and my first thought was – wow! Followed by a little disappointment that it was done. I wanted more.

My second thought was that this is book number eight in the Aurora Rhapsody series and yet it still kept me enthralled. At no time was I bored, wanting to skip pages, put the book down or feeling the need to go do something else. It’s a common problem with series that at some time the writer loses track (or interest) and it shows in tedious, filler sections. Not in these books.

G.S. knows how to arouse emotions. From shock to laughter, pride to pain, love to hate and everything in between. The characters in her books worm their way into your heart and stay there. Even those we meet for the first time quickly become very familiar. They are drawn so clearly it’s hard not to think of them as real people.

Rubicon – to take a decisive, irrevocable step – so the dictionary tells us. What it doesn’t mention are the consequences of that step, the outcomes of that decision. G.S. Jennsen shows us in a multitude of ways how even the smallest decision can have a devastating outcome. Yet she gives us humour and love, she gives us humanity at its finest while dealing with its flaws.

Rubicon is space opera, it’s romance, it’s action and war, it’s about galaxy spanning decisions. But mostly it’s about the people caught up in all those things, how they deal with it and how it affects them. More importantly though is that I, as the reader, want to see them survive. I want to wander through the worlds G.S. has created, walk side by side with Alex and Caleb as they show me the wondrous things they’ve seen. I want to visit these amazing places and meet these fantastic people and isn’t that is what good story telling and excellent writing is all about.

Go read these books, I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
