Caught in a cycle of life, death and rebirth…

Cursed with immortality, Nicolei believes the vampire blood coursing through his veins means he will forever be alone. As he prowls through the countryside, draining peasants one after another, his hatred for his existence only grows. Until one night fate shows him a life of possibilities with a beauty that deserved more than a dingy tavern. Claiming Katarina was easy; taming her was more of a challenge. She would be the life or death of him with her mischief, but her bewitching ways would keep him chasing her for centuries.

Is it merely Déjà vu or fate that brings us together?

Rispa takes refuge in New Orleans during a desperate attempt to escape a treacherous life with her sadistic husband, Thorn. Drawn to the Big Easy by an unknown force, she prays the spirits said to haunt the city will protect her. Her senses come alive while walking the streets of the French Quarter, and an intriguingly familiar woman named Onyx enters her life. As their passions rise, whispered voices and memories of the past help unlock the secrets of their souls…

Immortal or mortal, can love truly last the ages?

About the Author

I am a true Southern Belle, born and raised in LA (Lower Alabama). I migrated to Jackson, Mississippi in my twenties and today I am a full time paralegal, mother of three and have a crazy obsession with vampires and bats. I am addicted to tattoos (29 so far!) as well. I have two vampire and nineteen bat tattoos. My fascination with the undead spilled over into my writing. I put a new spin on the typical vampire in my book Blood & Roses which takes place in my favorite place to be...New Orleans. I love everything about the city and visit every chance I get. Writing this novel was not just a task, but a spiritual journey for me. Much of this book is based on personal experiences intricately weaved into my storyline.

    Overall Rating: 4 Rockin’ ★★★★

Rispa is running from an abusive husband and she is trying to hide from him in New Orleans. Hiding in plain sight seemed like a good idea and the Big Easy was the perfect place to do that with the large crowds of diverse people. On her first day there she stumbles across an unusual bar and she decides to visit it again that evening. The bar gives off a powerful vibe that pulls her and the same time repels her. After being frightened by the unusual woman she meets while trying to find the wine bar, Rispa leaves quickly. The next day she comes across a small boutique called Aunt Tee’s Attic and when she touches the door knob she hears a voice saying her name, the clerk’s name is Onyx.

A feeling of familiarity surrounds Rispa as Onyx introduces herself and kisses Rispa’s hand. Onyx realizes that this is the woman she has been dreaming about for and waiting on. There is an electric current that flows between the two of them and it feels super charged. Onyx ask her out to dinner and Rispa accepts the invitation. Onyx tells her that the hotel she is staying is said to be haunted. She continues to tell Rispa about the dark side of New Orleans; the cemetery tours, the vampire tours, the ghost tours and of course the street performers. Onyx feels the fear that is rolling through Rispa and wonders what has such a hold on her.

The two women talk about the store and how it sells some of the seedier items needed for the BDSM lifestyle. Rispa admits that she is unfamiliar with that lifestyle and knows nothing about it. Onyx has the ability to read people and she cannot understand how Rispa’s emotions are blocked from her. Something or someone is after Rispa and she is determined to find out the secrets that are being hidden. Read this book to find out where the voices are coming from that Rispa is hearing and what happens between the two women!

Blood & Roses follows the life of Rispa, a woman abused by her husband. She finally gets the courage to leave, and travels to New Orleans. There she meets Onyx, who awakens things inside of herself she never knew existed. They learn that they have been connected for eternally, finding each other and fighting for one another lifetime after lifetime. Each lifetime, there is one evil force after them, always wrecking havoc and causing them to part - usually by death. Will this be the lifetime they finally defeat the evil force?

I loved this book, and disliked it at the same time. Let's talk about things I loved, first. I loved the back story of them finding each other life after life. They are always born new people, but their souls are linked. Just as the evil force is a different person every life, but still has the same goal - to destroy them. I loved the flashbacks into their past lives and Rispa and Onyx learned who they really were. All of this was very interesting to me. It was the part that kept me reading the book.

One thing I didn't like or dislike - this is an erotica. Rispa and Onyx are both females. This was just odd to me because I've never read an LGBT erotica before. Though the sex scenes were few and far between, they were there. And honestly, to me, they didn't compare to the likes of books like 50 Shades. They were much more tame and short.

Now for what I disliked. The pace was SO FAST. Like, the whole book happened over three days. It's just way too fast. That's all I can say. As I was reading, I was thinking all of this should have happened at least over a month or more. But honestly, that's really my only complaint.

Overall, I'd give this book a 3.5/5. The only reason I woudn't go a 4/5 is because of the pace. The writing was good, the characters were mostly compelling, and I loved getting a glance into their past lives.

For this being a debut book it defiantly reads like an experienced author who has published many books. Cozie has written a book that had me falling in love with her characters and really what’s not to love with these souls who have sought out their soul mates for lifetimes. But in this life time we have Rispa who is on the run and Onyx who runs a shop in New Orleans who has secrets of her own. Will fate finally let these soul mates have their love or will it be destroyed like every other time?

I loved both characters immediately but I fell for Onyx faster than Rispa. There was just something about all the mystery around her that I found myself caught up in her story and wanting to know all about her. Don’t get me wrong I loved Rispa too I totally felt her loneliness as she ran from the person she thought loved her only to find out he was not at all what she thought. From the very start I was pulled into the fight Rispa and Onyx had to try and make this lifetime work for them but when the enemy is closing in quicker can they actually make it? To know that you will have to read the book to see if fate was on their side or was cruel and makes them wait another life time to be together.

With well thought out characters and a love that transcends many life times Blood & Roses will leave you glued to the very last page holding your breath. This is defiantly one of my favorite reads this year and I am looking forward to reading more from Cozie in the future. 5/5 Bloody Fangs
