Hook: Dead Wrong (Captain Hook and the Pirates of Neverland Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 98 ratings

People who complicate my life earn the business end of my hook.

Funny how that never seems to stop them.

Think I’m exaggerating? I stand accused of colluding with Fomorian raiders who are abducting young mermaids… And one of the Lost Boys I rescued from Neverland is being terrorized by a Faerie nightmare… A dark menace connects the two things. With the help of my pixie companion, I must solve the mystery while evading the interference of my meddlesome ex-lover.

He’s sinfully distracting, but the fun must wait.

All those delectable sirens need rescuing.

PRAISE FOR THE CAPTAIN HOOK SERIES:

"What a great surprise this gem turned out to be…" Goodreads review

"A pirate’s view of Neverland - it is unique, shedding light on Peter Pan’s escapades. Rescues filled with feats of derring-do show the audacity of Captain Hook. She’s bold, determined, and has a softer heart than you might imagine for a pirate. Her crew is a fascinating mix of odd characters that you’ll love getting to know. The author has a lyrical way of weaving words together that brings each scene to living color. I love it!" Goodreads review

"...a great action-packed start to the series!" Goodreads review

Or maybe it’s the other version of Peter Pan’s world that is askew. Read on, and decide for yourself!
If you’re looking for action packed adventure, a unique view of Neverland and its denizens, this is the place to be. The star of the show, Captain Hook, is not as you might expect; her companions and her lovers are prizes in their own right. The author’s stories never disappoint. Word pictures are formed, creating a clear visual of the scene. The battles are epic. The outcome, thrilling.
This can be enjoyed as a stand alone, but full pleasure comes with reading “Hook: Dead to Rights” first.

*I was given this free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Natalie returns to continue voicing Hook and her adventures. I'm pleased to hear Natalie again. I enjoy her accent for Hook and the many voices she's given to additional characters. The many voices makes the book feel like a full cast in audio. The audio is cut clean and clear for listening.

Hook's ship, Revenge, limps along on the waters after the battle with Peter Pan. They lost crew and the ship is on the verge of sinking. They then cross paths with Admiral William Kidd, who's determined to kill Hook. Then, we move on to a month later. Hook is chased from a married woman's bed and home.

This book has more going on behind the scenes as we listen to the story. We get the connections as the story progresses but earlier in the book we don't know how it's going to connect.

We get to see Hook use her siren song early in this book. It's nice to see she uses it when in need of help. Which we see that using her siren song could have consequences, which Hook is concerned about.

Hook is captain of her ship and she has to act the part, though Hook does care even if she appears hard in the face of her crew. She only wants the best for her crew and to keep them safe, especially from Peter Pan. I get a kick out of Hook and her camaraderie with Buzz, a pixie. They are fun together and Buzz makes me smile with some of his off hand comments.

We see Hook alone and a deeper look into who Hook is. We also get to see Hook with crew and friends on a one on one bases. The story feels to be a character developing one for us with the feelings we see flow through Hook here.

I think, in the end, Hook has a new appreciation for her crew and those she keeps near. She sees they are more to her, and she to them, than she originally leads on. Will this change the way she commands? I hope not. To me, she's always had care in her barked orders, it seems now she knows her crew and friends care for her too.

We get to see Hook with Captain Rackham. I do enjoy the way these two banter. Rackham and Hook seem so good at getting at the other with remarks, and they both take it in stride. There is a history here, and maybe a future? I'd love to see these two interact more in the future. Hook even makes a new friend in the water as well. It's always interesting to see Hook's connection to the mermaids. I wonder if this will come up again in the future.

A fun read that has me looking forward to future installments with Hook and all around her.

An immortal, a pixie, mermaids and an enchanted goat.
    An old flame ignites.
Again, Melissa has outdone herself. Th plot and timeline follow well, dialog is just right. Captain Hook as you never would have imagined her.

Hook in this case is a young woman, determined to rescue the lost boys, keep that pesky faerie at bay from the boy suffering from it, and hmmm. The Sirens.

A very different setting for action, adventure and sometimes steamy sometimes twisted romances.

The mermaids are at risk and Captain Hook is out to save them, and clear her name as well. But that is not going to be easy.

This is book two in the series which provides a different take on the classic Peter Pan story. The story is written as a standalone, so you can jump in at any time.

The story is well written and easy to read taking the reader to a setting that is both familiar and not at the same time. I found the setting to be well detailed, expanding upon the original in new and interesting ways. The plot is fast paced and full of interesting twists and turns which kept my attention throughout. Overall, I found it to be highly enjoyable and look forward to reading more in the series.

    Highly recommended.

Where the first book felt like a retelling of Peter Pan from an all new and adjusted point of view, this book feels like the beginning of a whole new world and story. I absolutely loved this story that was full of action, adventure and new aspects to Hook. She’s a pirate but a woman with a heart that she tries to hide, and often fails. I can’t wait to see what new adventures are in store for my new favourite pirate.

Back into the world of Neverland. After being accused of collusion in the abduction of mermaids, she must now on go on an adventure to prove her innocence and save the mermaids. The plot and story line always keep you involved and is easy to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing

Love this take on Neverland and Captain Hook. Jayden Hook is possibly one of my favourite fictional protagonists. The world building is amazing - it's immersive, magical and very real feeling. The story diverges quite substantially from the original tale, but is solidly plotted, and genuinely interesting. In fairness Peter Pan was never a favourite of mine, but Melissa Snark's take is masterful - I love that Hook is a richly experienced woman, with deal depth of character and feeling, and I thought the way details from her past are gradually revealed as the story progresses is really masterful and builds a sense of involvement and interest.

This is the second book of Hook. I enjoyed the story but felt a little more could have been explained as to Hook's origins. Still I am looking forward to the next one.
