Review
"It's rare to come across a series that is so unputdownable, but the conflict of morals versus feelings in the Explicitly Yours Series is all-consuming. Hawkins writes forbidden romance with a gripping intensity that flows from the pages. She keeps the reader not only invested, but hoping the characters do the morally wrong thing because even though it's wrong, it's so right...and so hot. The sex is off the charts, the struggles are real, and Beau is one sexy alpha."--Author Lisa Suzanne
"This is what Jessica does. She creates astory so compelling that overwhelms you and takes you for the ride of yourlife. It changes you and what you believe. It shakes you to the core."--Mia's Point of View
"From the first sentence, this book had aslow burn that gradually increased until the ending where it was a raginginferno and it felt like my heart might beat right out of my chest...If I could give this book more than 5 stars, Iwould."--A Risqué Affair Book Blog
"An indecent proposal, an offer she's not sure if she should refuse, or if she wants to...this story gets in your head and makes you question where you thought you stood on certain topics. Jessica Hawkins drags you into this angsty tale and the lives of these characters to such an extent that you are right there living their story with them. We loved it, and we're still holding out hope for more!"--Romance Readers Retreat Book Blog

- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2014I had the great honor to read and review, Night Fever part 1 and ooooo weeee, am I about as happy as a kid in a candy store during a 50% off everything must go sale!!! I LOVED, Loved this book. I had such book withdrawals after I finished it; I was on my kindle bartering my first born for another chaper, another sentence from Beau, hell another word would of done just fine ( mommy loves you Carmine).
This book reminded me of a movie that was out in the 90’s, called Indecent Proposal, you may have heard of it. Hot story line; rich sexy man wants another man’s beautiful wife, and makes them an offer they can’t refuse. Mainly because the other man already has dollar signs in his eyes even before richie rich can even finish his offer. I remember there was a sex scene on and my parents made me leave the room, I know, I know rude! Don’t worry I watched that and Sliver once I was old enough and kept thinking I could one over on my parents ( those movies are crazy hot)!! ANNNNNYYYY WHOOO, I digress, moral of the story is this book was extremely hot and such a breath of fresh air that was greatly needed.
Beau( our Richie rich) is one hot mother f*ucker!! I mean Id slept with the man for free, no holla for a Dolla here, Mr. Olivier!!! He sees something in Lola (our Beautiful lady of interest) from the moment he sees her in all her feisty, tiny, hot headed women glory. I was a smitten kitten when I first met, Lola too. So I could totally relate to Beau’s crazy hot attraction to her. Case and point, exhibit A- His ridiculous offer to Johnny ( Our other man/Lola’s BF) to have Lola for one night in exchange for a huge amount of money. This begins the downward spiral into temptation, the money for Johnny, and Beau for Lola. She is drawn to him like a moth to a flame, and she can’t explain why. He is cocky, arrogant (at times), rude (again at times), and a pig to make such a unsavory offer, even if my naughty bits quivered with the very idea of spending a night with that charming man in a designer suit. Oh lord is it hot in here?
I’d love to tell you what happens, what Johnny and Lola, decide to do with this very indecent proposal from, Mr. Olivier, but then where’s the fun in that? To read this book is an amazing and thrilling experience and who and I to ruin that for all you smutty babies out there? All I can say is, once you finish part one you will be chomping at the bit for the next installment, and you may or may not go through terrible book with drawl where nothing will sooth the ache but, Beau, Beau, Beau, Thank God for beau!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2015A friend, Brittany (owner of Brittany’s Book Blog) messaged me and basically told me I didn’t have an option and I had to check out a series she had just read and LOVED. I think our friendship would have been over if I didn’t agree. ;) I was in the middle of a book but I promised her I would check it out. The series was Night Fever by Jessica Hawkins. The book description looked interesting and I had a strong recommendation for it so soon after I jumped in.
Night Fever (Book 1) had me torn. There were facets of the storyline I wasn’t 100% sold on but I found myself loving the characters, the chemistry, and the draw. I was somewhat confused about my feelings for the story but knew I had to keep going in the serial. I am writing this review as I have already kept going with the story and I can tell you that with this mentioned confusion over book 1… I got what I was looking for as I kept reading.
This is a story about people having to make tuff decisions that they never dreamed they would make. It is about how people react to the abundance of money and lack of much money at all. We see how people treat each other when faced with difficult decisions; and just who and what can change loyalty, trust, and love. With Night Fever you don’t get the full picture of all the mystery and secrets awaiting still to come and as an avid romance reader I felt a little off kilter during reading as the theme of love was not the prevailing aspect within the story. But it is there; sometimes hidden and sometimes misguided.
Lola is a tuff; take no prisoners type of woman. She’s strong and confident and isn’t one to shy away from verbalizing her thoughts or opinions. She’s grown up poor without a whole lot of love and affection. She makes some “wrong” turns in her youth and a guy helps her to turn her life around. She feels indebted to him for it. That guy (Johnny) is now her boyfriend of nine years and they live a life talking about and wanting more for their life without a whole lot of change to make anything happen. They are faced with choices when a man walks into their life and offers an unorthodox arrangement that could change their whole life. A change this big so fast is a lot for people who basically just did a whole lot of talking about change before.
Beau is an intense and wealthy businessman who got to be where he is today from hard work and determination. Once the man of the house from a family with little monetary means and now a man with more power and money than most will ever see in a lifetime. He’s got secrets, wealth, power, charm, and painstakingly good looks on his side. Beau comes into Lola and Johnny’s life and turns everything upside down. He is calculated and manipulative when it comes to getting what he wants. Typically Beau is the leading man that doesn’t really do it for me. But there was something about him that set him apart from the typical overbearing, take what they please alpha men. He easily wormed his way into me heart and I found myself loving him despite him not being my normal book boyfriend type.
Beau and Lola come together by an arrangement. I wasn’t all too sure how I would feel about that but with their chemistry and his intensity my doubts were quieted. However, I had hoped once the two were alone… discussion and thought of the arrangement would fall to the waist side. That wasn’t what happened though and it was this part of the story that brought upon my confusing feelings of the book. I wanted the spark between them to make all the other stuff go away at least while they were alone together. I guess that’s not entirely realistic though and I understood why Lola hid behind the idea of their arrangement.
The sex scenes in Night Fever are intense! They may also be some of the best writing of sex scenes I have come across in the romance genre. The description of the acts, the mood it sets, the acts themselves, the chemistry between characters, the kink factor… everything is all put together in a perfect package leaving the reader panting with the mental images created in their mind. Coming from a blogger and avid page-turner of a lot of romance novels this is a bold statement from me and I SO stand by it.
I asked a friend to read over this review before I published it and without telling her what I was rating it and asked her to tell me what she thought my opinion of the book was from these words I have written. She said to me, “It sounds like you’re on the fence and haven’t yet decided whether you actually love it or not.” This is why I wanted to have her look over it first because I didn’t want to shy anyone away from reading this serial because it is true I was a little on the fence after Night Fever but now I am beyond book 1 and I am intrigued and LOVING it. I haven’t finished the entire set yet so I it’s still to be determined whether I will still be singing Jessica’s praises at the end but so far I will definitely say this is a book you should take a chance on if it is outside your box. It was outside of mine and even with my tendency to condemn the controlling man there was something about these characters that said, “You HAVE to keep reading!” An ‘if you build it’ type thing…Well I’m HERE and thus far enjoying my mysterious, secret filled, bomb-dropping ride. I’m just hoping for an HEA at the end.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2024Very fifty shades like. But good easy read. I enjoyed the story. Read it in one sitting! It’s a perfect enjoyment read
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2019I can see where this is going, and even though I enjoyed reading this book, it's too distasteful to follow the story to some obvious future events. I don't want to write any spoilers, but I have to have some empathy for the characters, and I think we have two weak wannabes, and one truly disgusting, manipulative sociopath.
The book's a good read; the story is sad, and I don't want to read any more of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing
Something I never could do, but a very interesting night was shared between the two Beau and Lola. One night that can't be a no strings attached type story. When it comes to sex, it can't be no strings attached Beau proved it as there was so much between the two.
Loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty women-ish...
It's a small book. When i was going through the book, i felt as though i have seen this movie. The movie Pretty Women could have been an inspiration for this novel as some of the scenes described reminded me of this movie. Overall, i enjoyed reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most gripping romance ever read.
I think this was the most powerful romance I have ever read. It was gripping from start to finish, and the emotions seem so real. I felt what Lola was feeling and longed that the “best sex she’d ever had” would end in love. I had to start reading the next book immediately to find out.
