    The first thing you have to learn in the zompoc is to shoot them in the head! Or chop the brain in two! Or cut their head off! Or smash their skulls with a big hammer! But don't try to outrun them! These are fast zombies. They may not catch you right away, but they don't get tired. And don't try to wrestle with them. They're stronger. And don't try to push their face away with your hands! They love to snack on fingers!
    This well-written story of the end of the world includes characters of two distinct types: loveable or detestable; kind or mean; trustworthy or slimeballs; evil or saintly . . . well, unapologetic at least! This tale reflects the best of us and mirrors our worst horror. Expectations are raised and disappointments are rife. The storyline rides the rollercoaster of ups and downs, an occasional whoop-de-do, or spin you on your head. Yessir! It's got all the necessary ingredients for a great read! I'm looking forward to part 2.

    Planet Dead is a fun read with strong Z-Nation vibes. There is a nice blend of humor, character, action, absurd villains and pace here that makes for an interesting and inviting read. Clearly, Mr Barzey is a fan of the genre and has a keen eye for giving us an original story and puts in the effort to give us something fun. The characters are real and their interactions are a lot of fun to see on the page.

    I do think the book could have used another pass by an editor, as there were some grammatical issues and some sequences that need a bit of choreography. The story could also benefit greatly from tighter POV choices and the confusion comes from head-bouncing.

    Otherwise, I had a good time and we're left on a real nail-biter of an ending. Barzey isn't afraid to get his hands dirty on the grit of survival and doesn't shy away from violent, tough action. I'd give this a shot if you're a Z-Nation fan for sure.

    It's so nice to have a kickass female main character, who's also an army vet. I've read loads of books with male leads who have army training, but this is the first with a woman and it did not disappoint it was an action packed rollercoaster of a story and I need to read the next one to find out what happens next.

She knows what it takes and will do whatever is necessary to reunite with her family. But when an unexpected visitor comes knocking on her door, will she maintain her strict policy of distrust or risk death for another?

    This book reminded me how much I love zombies. I haven’t read a good zombie book or consumed good zombie content in a while and it’s not for any other reason than happenstance. I’ve had Sylvester Barzey’s book in my library for almost a year now (my apologies for that!) and am so glad I picked it up. It was perfectly what I was in the mood for.

    This is a fast paced, fun, eccentric cast of characters with a wild storyline. The scares are there and ready to play and the suspense is well done. Barzey leaves the book on a bit of a cliffhanger with questions of what’s to come because it is, yes that’s right, a SERIES! So if you’re looking to dive into something more world consuming, something that’ll be a full journey with horror and guts, this might just be the post-apocalyptic book for you! 🧟
