Bought the movie sound track when it came out in the album format. After forty years had to buy the cd.

Like i said when I reviewed the move this soundtrack should have won an academy award. When I first saw this movie back in 1973 I could not wait for this soundtrack by Bob Dylan to come out in record.

Dylan took his view of thematic musical scores very seriously. This album is brilliant:: Knockin On Heaven's Door folllowed by the scores main theme are my favorite music to settle me after a troubled day and I'm seeking peace.

I've loved Bob Dylan's eclectic lyrics throughout my life. I'm 70+ so I've heard them for well over 40 years. This album is more about the melodys and arrangements. As he adds instruments & speed changes to the rythmn, the themes click with each other from tune to tune like watchworks.

I often think he could have been a giant among classical music composers had he chosen the classical genre. This album is unique among the body of Dylan's work. Once you've heard it, the experience will inform your way of listening to other Dylan tunes. It's brilliant

I purchased this, as I had seen the movie when it was released as the word was all about the art of the Director. Now that I am much older I am collecting, or attempting to, a majority of Bob Dylan's music. Getting pretty close to it. I had spent a lot of time in the Village in the !960's, and was at Newport Folk Festival when he shocked many folks when he played with electric back up. I also remember I was sitting, on the grass at a Workshop there. Phil Och's was playing, when Dylan and entourage passed by. He was trying to avoid someone grabbing at him and kicked or tripped over my foot, I was not upset by that. I remember thinking at the time. That people grabbing at you was price you paid for that kind of fame.
I have been a fan of poetry since I learned to read and was taken with American poets.
I have always considered Dylan an American Poet. One up at the top of my list.

My husband loves this CD. He has shared it with friends and a local restaurant.

Haunting, the soundtrack that will take you elsewhere if you're not careful. I mean without any enhancements
you may miss those exits and keep driving for as long as you have this soundtrack playing.
Back in the day when it came out I used to ask my boyfriend to "skip" to "Heavens Door"
but, when I finally bought the cassett (back in the day) I played the whole album and never "skipped"
again. Then of course I bought the CD. Just had to have it. Could not get it on itunes.

This is not only a great soundtrack to a great film, but a fine addition to the Bob Dylan catalog. Apart from the now anthemic, "Knocking On Heaven's Door," it features the man & great musicians on an atmospheric album. If "Nashville Skyline," was Country, this is "Western." See the TCM version of the film on the current DVD. Better than the Director's Cut, also featured on the DVD.

More acoustic guitar than singing. The songs are pretty laid back. Nice to get the original Knocking on Heaven's Door recording, the highlight of the CD.

Released in July 1973, 'Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid' features a blend of acoustic instrumentals and songs with lyrics inspired by the eponymous film. The album is a very laid-back piece of country- and folk-influenced rock, with 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' the most famous track. 'Billy 1', 'Billy 4' and 'Billy 7' are also very good songs. It underscores the film very well indeed. This is a great album to wind down with on a long summer evening, after having watched the film of course. Sam Peckinpah and Bob Dylan work very well together.
