Only For A Moment

Rate this book
Men are nothing but trouble!
From Jade Johnson's experience, the only thing they've ever been good for is holding her back from achieving her dreams. But when work takes her to the small town of Cedar Springs, Jade comes face to face with a man who sets her world on fire and immediately challenges her beliefs.

Mitch McCormick is finally ready to put his playboy ways behind him and settle down, but the type of women he's been dating are definitely not the marrying type. That's why he needs a nice girl. An easy going, sweet, small town girl.

But if Mitch is so determined to date a nice small town girl, then why can't he stop thinking about the feisty, sharp tongued talent agent who's in town to film a television show? Jade challenges him and excites him in a way he's never experienced and can't stop thinking about. But she's made it clear that settling down isn't something she wants, not with him - not with anyone.

Not for me. I need to stop reading books just because they're free. I was feeling rather annoyed by the end of this story. The romantic relationship was rushed and unbelievable. The story was full of clichés and was very surface level.

I thought Mitch was a dud. He was big on labels and kept talking about how he wanted a 'nice girl'. You know, the low maintenance cool girl who drinks beer. He told Jade she wasn't his type after they had already slept together. When Jade told him she was pregnant, Mitch yelled and kicked some furniture and stormed out. Sure, Jade was in self preservation mode and told him she didn't want anything from him; but, there was no need for a Mantrum. Later on he punches his brother during an argument. Then Mitch goes in for the grand gesture and proposes and surprises Jade with their wedding. Hey babe, hope it's cool I haven't given you the opportunity to invite anyone. They hadn't even had one day of being in a proper relationship and now they're getting married. Please.

Jade is a talent scout and she is working with her friend Gwen to tell about how Gwen met the love of her life Ian. Jade is all business and sassy and has her life planned out or so she thinks.

Mitch is looking for a nice small town girl to settle down with but every time he sees the sassy talent take charge woman Jade. Chemistry takes over. And boy do they have the chemistry.

Another awesome book by Elena Aitken. I received an Advanced Readers copy and am voluntarily leaving this review.

What a conundrum Mitch encounters in Only For a Moment by Elena Aitken as he tries to find the perfect partner to settle down. Shortly after he sees Jade Johnson, he knows he has to meet her. Jade is a city girl and doesn’t seem to be exactly the type of woman he wants for settling down, despite their chemistry and attraction. So Mitch takes local girl Evie, mother of a young boy he’s tutoring, on a date. She’s checks all his boxes except there’s no chemistry. Besides, his mind keeps wandering back to Jade. Mitch wonders if he can convince Jade of his feelings.

Jade Johnson was raised to believe that a man will hold her back from achieving her dreams. Yet, while temporarily living in the small town of Cedar Springs, Jade comes face to face with a man who sets her world on fire and immediately challenges her beliefs. Jade is unsure that she can let go of those lifelong beliefs, drilled into her by her mother, and allow herself to follow her heart.

I really enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down, reading it in one day. Ms. Aitken knows how to tell a wonderful story and makes me want to live in Cedar Springs. This was an intriguing and interesting story with very authentic characters. This is the second book in The McCormicks series, but each book is a standalone story. I am looking forward to the next book in this series and highly recommend this book to other readers.

What happens when a career first woman meets up with a playboy who has decided he needs to date the right girl & settle down? Lots of tender emotional scenes, misunderstandings & hot, intense chemistry! Jade Johnson is in Cedar Springs to oversee the project her client, Gwen, is involved in. From the moment she meets Mitch, they share an intense chemistry that will not let them ignore or stay away from the other. Jade feels men are nothing but trouble. Her mother has pushed the point that men & children interfere with your plans & career from the time Jade was old enough to remember. So why can't she stop thinking about Mitch?

Mitch McCormick is a teacher & a former player who had decided it's time to settle down. He's determined to find a nice girl, not his usual type. So why is her so attracted to "a stiletto-wearing, designer bag-toting, full-fledged, first-class, high-maintenance city girl? She's not the type to settle down in a small town & raise a family, is she?

The characters of Mitch & Jade are wonderful! The emotions in the scenes leap off the page at you. Jade's sorrow & jealously are easy to sympathize with. Mitch's honest reaction to Jade' surprise was extremely realistic. To see him honestly grapple with his emotions & decisions & fight his way to a decision adds dimension to those scenes. By bringing in Ian & Gwen throughout the story, the reader is kept up on their story but it adds emotional depth to Mitch & Jade's, too. This book can easily be read as a stand alone but if you read Book 1, you have an added understanding of certain scenes. I loved this book & cant wait to see what the writer brings to One More Moment!

Fantastic book. It was an instant attraction between Mitch and Jade.
But neither wanted to admit it. She was all business.
Mitch came back to Cedar Springs to meet his step sister, and spend time with his brother.

Jade came to Cedar Springs to get a show off the ground. Mitch McCormick was a distraction she
did not need. It was a summer festival when sparks flew between them.
They started spending time together, but agreed they would only be friends.
Well not so sure that was really working out.

See what happens when things take a twist.

Highly recommend.

I was given this book in return for an honest review.

After finishing the first book in the series, I couldn't wait to see what happened between Jade and Mitch. Fireworks were going off between those two from the very first moment they met. I'm unapologetically loving how their story went. It had the same amazing emotions rolling around inside me. I laughed and cried. There are cameos from some of the town favorites. Summer is a'hopping. So much is going on. I could not be happier for the ending. Now, the scene has been set for book three, and it looks to be a doozie. Time to hold on. It's about to get bumpy, and I can't wait!

Jade's mother raised her to believe men and children will ruin her life. Just because she feels an immediate, and hot, connection with Mitch means nothing to her. That is what she keeps telling herself anyway. She conveniently forgets all the hurtful things she says to him. Mitch is great and decided to find the right woman to settle down with in Cedar Springs. If only Jade would listen to him. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

I was hooked on The Springs collection and now am loving the McCormick series! I was anxious to read book 2 after finishing the first. Mitch and Jade's story is one of love, yet not unrealistc. An easy read; you don't want to put it down because you want to know what happened. Can't wait for the next one in the series! Makes me want to pack up and move to Cedar Springs because this town sounds incredible!

This is now my favorite book by Elena Aitken. I absolutely love Jade and Mitch's story. This a well written book with so many lovable characters. I started this book and couldn't stop until the end. If you're looking for a book with a strong, feisty woman and a hot, alpha man, then this is definitely a book for you.

Jade grew up with a mother telling her she does not need a man. Mitch just wants to find a nice girl to settle down with. The sparks between Jade and Mitch are flying high, and everyone knows it. They have let love in and saw what happens. This is the second book in a great series.

I'm loving this series by Elena Aitken!
Jade Johnson has always had a plan and it didn't include men because they were nothing but trouble! That all changes with one steamy night she has with Mitch McCormick. He has changed what she thought she wanted out of life, but he's set on finding himself a nice town girl who is ready to settle down and worth changing his playboy ways for. Jade doesn't fit that requirement because she's not from town and her focus has always been about her career. How can two people who want such different things out of life find their way in this relationship?

I was given an ARC from the author/publisher. All conclusions are mine and mine alone.

Absolutely loved this, couldn't put it down. I like that this is another branch off the Cedar Springs township with different characters. I also like that there's only a slight crossover mentioning locations and characters from the other series. That being said, this can also be read as a stand alone book. To good characters that come together through passion and attraction. I enjoyed them navigating their way through their relationship to the big finale. Looking forward to the next in series...

I really enjoyed reading Jade & Mitch's story! It was fun to getting to know them! Jade is a strong, independent woman raised to be a career woman and let everything else go. Mitch is at a crossroads in his life and he is looking for more than just his career. Together they are fun and romantic with lots of spunk! Can't wait to read the next book in this series!

A visit back to Cedar Springs is the perfect place to get your life back in order, or at least that is what Mitch is hoping for. Then he meets Jade and they have an instant connection. 2 adults well established in there careers and shaky upbringing are not sure what to do, but be friends. Let's see how that works out.

* I don't do spoilers in my review*Loved Mitch and Jade's story. This book had me frustrated with the characters at times and then at other times laughing and then wanting to cry. Wonderfully written well developed storyline and characters. This book is a must read it is the second book involving the McCormick brothers returning to Cedar Springs they are all inclusive to their own storylines but you will want to read them all as they are a great read.

A sweet story. Mitch McCormick is in Cedar Springs for the summer, helping his elder brother Ian to set up and run his new Marina. He meets Jade Johnson, who is agent to Gwen, Ian's fiancée; and their attraction to each other is instant. They have many misunderstandings along the way because they both have issues. Mitch wants to settle down but Jade seems to be everything that he has decided he doesn't want in a partner. Jade doesn't want to find someone to settle down with, her mother drilled into her throughout her childhood that she will never need love and romance, a good career is far more important, so they both have mindsets that can never include each other. It is interesting observing how they slowly change their opinions, but it takes a drastic climax to finally get them to their happy ever after.
We also get a hint about the women who will become involved with the two younger McCormick brothers, Declan and Cal, and those stories look as though there are lots of fireworks ahead! A good, enjoyable read.

This is a nice and enjoyable read with fun dialog and characters. There are some heart palpitating scenes to rock your socks, too.
Mitch McCormick, heart throb material, has come to the realization that he is ready to finally settle down and quit the short-term liaisons he’s been doing for forever. One last one time evening with Jade Johnson has driven this desire home. All he can think about is Jade, all the time.
Jade is not a woman who is looking for a man not is she in Cedar Springs long term. All her life her single mother has drilled into her the waste letting a man deter your career is until she encounters Mitch. And, what an encounter that was! She begins to wonder if maybe there is something else missing in her life that she has been avoiding, permanence in a relationship maybe. But, logistics, misunderstandings, and a real surprise for both of them mix things up real soon for them. Will either of them finally find themselves totally on the same page?

It's summer and time to visit Cedar Springs, a great family vacation spot with a lake, boats to rent, a beach, and festivals. The McCormick family has a great cabin and four brothers. Mitch is the focus of this story. He has had his fill of the dating game and is ready to settle down. His idea of the ideal wife and mother clashes with his feelings. The interplay between Mitch, the private school teacher and the Hollywood talent agent in the person of Jade Johnson is delightful. The recurring theme of boats, the lake and water really appealed to me, reminding me of the lake where I vacationed as a child. I loved the way the Springs Hotel was integrated into the story, it was seamless and relevant to the TV show back story. (Oh how I want to visit the hotel.) I recommend this book and look forward to Cal's story in the next installment.

Mitch McCormick is a school teacher at a private school in the city. When he returns to Cedar Springs, the town he grew up in he feels like he has come home and is ready to settle down like his brother Ian. The problem for him is finding the perfect girl. Jade Johnson is a career centered woman who was taught by her mother that men and children just get in your way and they will only ruin her career. She struggles with her conflicting feelings and emotions over what she wants and what she was led to believe. This is a great story with two strong main characters who are very stubborn and they don't want to get hurt so they hide their true feelings. They try so hard to deny the chemistry between them. It is a great summer read. You will fall in love with the sexy McCormick brothers.

So, I guess I just didn't connect with this book. I felt like a whole lot happened while at the same time, nothing happened at all. Jade and Mitch hook up, a few weeks later they hook up again, both don't want a relationship, but then suddenly they do and they think they're in love with each other. Then BAM, Jade's pregnant and can see a visible difference in her body (at 4-5 weeks in). I don't know, I feel like there were too many cliches and they characters were just... bland. Neither one was developed all that much and it felt like a cookie cutter story, plot wise.

All that aside, the book is well written and I did enjoy the first book in this series, so I'm pretty sure this was just a one off.

This book was even better than the first. Mitch and Jade are an unlikely couple. Mitch is looking for a small town girl after being burnt by a city girl. Jade is a city girl who is so focused on her career that she isn't looking for a relationship of any kind. Their attraction is hard to ignore since they are constantly running into each other in the small town of Cedar Springs. The other McCormick brothers return to Cedar Springs and make an appearance, and there may be some foreshadowing of future couples in the series. All in all, this is a great addition to the McCormicks Series and I cannot wait for more.

I love Elena Aitken's writing style! I can picture all of the characters in my mind's eye and where they live, and where they play. I love that this series is set in Cedar Springs and that some of the other series's characters make cameo appearances, just adds a certain depth and feeling of community and connection. I adore Mitch, but Jade not so much. Put them together and they actually make a truly believable couple that you want to root for. I can't wait to read the rest of the McCormick series. ❤️

Only For A Moment is about how two very opposite persons can be together because of love. Jade is definitely not the kind of woman that Mitch is looking for but he can't help being attracted to her. And Jade is not looking for a man. The chemistry between them is explosive and it just makes you want to read on and hope that they will find their HEA. I love a sassy feisty heroine and Jade fulfils all of that.

The other brothers also appear in Only For A Moment and I really can't wait to read their story.

You can always count on Elena Aitken to give you a heartwarming novel and she really delivers with Only for a Moment. Jade's mother was really "jaded" about love and life and pushed those ideas on her to the point that Jade believed that she should concentrate on her career only. Falling for a McCormick brother was not part of the script. Can Mitch unwittingly win her heart and what part will the brothers play?

"Only for a Moment" (The McCormicks Book 2) by Elena Aitken

In this second novel in the McCormick series, Mitch is on a mission to find a life partner. He decides to head down to Cedar Springs to join his brother and take a break. The second he sets his eyes on city girl Jade, he believes he has found the one. While she lights his world on fire, and vice versa, there is still the issue of her wanting to fulfill her dreams. And any man worth his salt, would support her in doing so, as her mother so diligently taught her. Confusion, misunderstandings and passions abound as the couple works through them own beliefs and values and find a way to compromise in order to make their relationship work in the end.

This was a wonderful follow up to the first book in the series. Ian and Gwen continue to appear which catches the reader up on their lives and adds an additional comparative relationship to that of Mitch and Jade.

While I always have enjoyed the characters in any of the author's series, part of what I truly enjoy in this series is how much time is spent on the water. For me, for whatever reason, it provides as added bonus to these novels. A calming influence, particularly during times of conflict, reflection, and for enjoyment.

Rating: 3.8

I loved this story. I’m not sure I will be able to tell you how much as I cannot recap the story for you without any spoilers. Know that it really touched me, on all fronts, whether I was reading about Jade and Mitch or any of the other McCormicks or any one of The Springs residents. This is Book 2, a standalone, and we met Mitch in book one. He is such a great character – and character he is! He has some ground to cover, getting in touch with his deep feelings for his family (and there is more to it than just that; you gotta read the book and/or series!), but IMHO he does it well and with great feeling. I loved him. Jade works with Mitch’s future sister-in-law (we met her in book one as well) and she, too, has some major upbringing issues to work through. I’ll admit, there were times I just wanted to sit her down and shake her up a bit – she truly was a stubborn thing sometimes. (Great writing by the author; when a character makes me crazy, they have me so involved I start to think characters are real.) I have much invested in the McCormicks and their friends. I can’t recommend this story, and series, enough. I truly loved Mitch and he and Jade are so very good together, even when they didn’t see it themselves.
