Editorial Reviews
Before winning six Grammy Awards and placing 40 singles atop the country charts, Ronnie Milsap was an all-American boy, discovering his potential as a musician while growing up and having fun like so many other teens in North Carolina. Milsap's new album, Summer Number 17, is a tribute to those golden years as only he could tell it - through song.
In more ways than one, Summer Number 17 is wrapped in layer after warm layer of carefree nostalgia. For one, the album finds Milsap united once again with the Sony Music family, eight years since his last record for RCA Nashville (2006's My Life) and four decades since his 1973 debut for the label, the Top 5 country album Where My Heart Is.
Summer Number 17 takes listeners back to Ronnie's favorite tunes, from pop standards ("It s All in the Game," "Mack the Knife") to early rock and roll classics ("Mustang Sally," "Personality," "Tears on My Pillow") all the way to iconic R&B songs ("Georgia on My Mind," made famous by Milsap's idol Ray Charles, and Motown classic "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted"). The album is bookended by the newly-written title track, an ode to those carefree days of teenage adventure, and a new recording of Milsap's nostalgic No. 1 hit from 1985, "Lost in the Fifties Tonight."

- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2014How refreshing to hear these songs again after so long, and what really makes them special this time is the wonderful full sound and the great vocal treatment given to them by Ronnie Milsap. WOW, each one is a gem and Ronnie handles them superbly. Another thing I really like are the arrangements, they are very close to the originals and you find yourself liking the song all over again like you did years ago. I am sure these songs will make some new fans too. Like another reviewer said, Ronnie’s voice is as strong and pleasant to hear as it was when he started out, he is in great form. Actually I am back to get another Milsap CD I liked it so much. Why I waited so long to discover him is a mystery to me. Don’t you wait so long. Make this CD your first and you will be back for more too, I bet cha

You need to BUY THIS ALBUM!
Milsap is one of the greatest song-masters of all time!
I saw-heard Ronnie in the early 1980's in Wichita Falls, TX...
With Ricky Skaggs as the opener... Anyone else there?
BLISSSS---TER---INNNG!!!! From HE... (the guy is blind, folks, plays and sings like a MONSTER!)
standing on the piano ... with the BURNING CANDELABRA
to the opening tune of "What a Difference" ...? HA! .... Others only WISH they sang like HIM!
He still is THE BEST song-master of vocals... Live performance, or on record....
As Ronnie approaches the end of his touring career, YOU NEED TO BUY THIS ALBUM!
Ga-head, plunk down the money... You'll NOT be disappointed!!!

- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2014I have always loved the music of Ronnie Milsap. The diversity of styles he is capable of performing includes Country, R&B, Gospel, and Rock & Roll. This album displays his talent yet again. Years ago a read an article about Barry Manilow's contribution to Bette Midler's career. The description was Barry poured Rocket Fuel into those old songs that Bette made into hits. This album is on fire. Ronnie sings every song just as it should have been done. The arrangements are perfect. The musicians are amazing. The result is a CD that you want to listen to over and over again. Ronnie makes every song his own and on "Georgia" he channels Ray Charles through him right into the microphone. You can only win on this one. Enjoy.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2014This CD is not your typical country music CD. It is a coloration of songs that Mr. Milsap once enjoyed as a young man. Many of the songs have been recorded by other artists, most were in the 1950's. However, Mr. Milsap brings these songs back to life in his own artistic way, like nobody else can. Although he is 71 years-old, he still has that smooth, clear, memorizing voice. The two duets with Mandy Barnett are totally awesome! Their voices seem to fit together like a glove. This CD is most definitely a "must have" for any collection. If you enjoy Mr. Milsap's music or if you remember the many hits of the 1950's, this is a CD one must own! Highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2016I liked all the songs on this CD... all remakes from songs that were popular back in the 60's and 70's... The main reason I got this was for the song "What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted" (the Jimmy Ruffin classic from 1966) There are two songs on here that aren't classics. "Summer Number Seventeen" and "Lost in the Fifties Tonight" (originally done in 1985 -- Well, to some of you 1985 might be considered classic since that was 31 years ago.)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2014This CD is GREAT!!!!!!! I think country music radio stations do a great injustice to the older singers/musicians by not playing their new music and even the older stuff. They are just as good or better than some of the newer artists. I wish Ronnie would do a blues/soul CD and re-release his album into CD - Out Where the Bright Lights are Glowing.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2014The more I listen to this album, the more I want to play it. Ronnie takes each of these great old songs and transforms them into his style of music. The music and the vocals are phenomenal, full and energy and emotion. "Mustang Sally" really rocks! If you like Ronnie Milsap, this album is a must.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2015OMG! I saw him in concert live in Bradford,PA last April 2014! Just as amazing as on his albums and all of us in the venue sang along. This is an awesome album and would love to do it again. I had a 'meet and greet' with him after the concert!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this CD
Been waiting for this for a while, so it was on the player within seconds of being delivered. I loved it, think it is fabulous. Old favourite tunes with a Ronnie twist. What becomes of the broken hearted with a country twist - who would have thought it would work, but it did. Keep them coming Ronnie!
