- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2012As an author with more than 12 books and a computer programmer, i have learned most of what is covered in the book trough internet research. However, i did learn one important topic from the book, digitally signing your books.
I review a book based on three points.
1: Will any of the advice in the book lead to increased sales that will cover the book price in a few months.
2: Will the book be helpful to other readers that have less experience and computer skills than me.
3: Does the book deliver on its promise or was the author misleading in the title and book description to hook you into a sale.
Based on these points, the book earns a 5 star.
Yes you may be able to find better information if you have the time and skill to search the web as mentioned in a 2 star review, however, if i wanted to waist my time searching the net i would not buy a book that condense the information for me, in addition to many people are not internet or computer bofs, and having a starting point for them to promote their book from a link they can click on inside a book is what is needed for them.
If you have been spending time on the internet or already have a book and have gone through the process of publishing a book, then many of the stuff in this book will already be known to you. Thus, this book is mostly of value to new authors. However, even for experienced authors, if only one tip in the book causes you to increase your income by $1 a month, then the book has paid for itself in 5 months, and from there makes a profit, a good investment, try doubling your investment in a year in any bank.
The book does not promise you to give you the best marketing advice, it promises to give you advice you can do for free to help you advertise your book, and it delivers to that promise.
Apart for explaining most of the process of publishing a book and setting your author page, the book gives a number of links to websites and other helpful information that is a very good starting point (and as good as any other starting point) to get you on the go advertising your book/s.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2016If you've written a book in the past couple of years or so, you've probably figured out that it's important to sell it on Amazon - the largest book retailer in the U.S., if not the world. And if you're selling books on Amazon, you've probably already discovered that there are a lot of intricate and ever-evolving details that will help you succeed (or cause you to fail) at selling books on this enormous and complicated site.
Naturally, you're looking for some guidance. Tips, tricks, recipes for success. But where should you turn?
There are a lot of books out there on the subject of selling books at Amazon. Some of them are quite good, while others rely more on gaming the system. For my money, Shelley Hitz's book, Marketing Your Book On Amazon: 21 Things You Can Easily Do For Free To Get More Exposure and Sales, is a great place to start - particularly if you're a complete newcomer to selling books at Amazon.
As promised, Hitz describes 21 things you can do to boost your sales and your book's exposure on the retailer's website, all of which are completely free. Some of her suggestions include:
*Choosing the best categories for your book
*Creating a compelling book description
*Adding search keywords to your book
*Adding tags to your book's sales page
*Keeping your author profile updated
*Posting your most powerful reviews on your book's sales page
These are pretty straightforward suggestions, aimed at the beginning author who may not be aware of all the bells and whistles available from Amazon's KDP program. She clearly and completely outlines each strategy, one by one, and even includes screenshots that help illustrate her directions. This makes it even easier for tech-challenged authors to follow along.
Several more advanced options - like digitally autographing your book, promoting your book with KDP Select, and promoting your book on social media - are also outlined here, giving authors who have already completed the basic tasks more ideas about how to keep their books present and accessible to potential readers.
One of the most helpful parts of the book, however, is the Post-Publication Checklist, which lays out a list of 13 items all authors should do once they've published their book at Amazon. This is something every author should tack up on the wall in their writing nook, to make sure they've done each of these important items.
Another great bonus included in this book is a link to a video tutorial that covers even more marketing tips! The video is slightly over 27 minutes long, and takes the audience through the act of promoting a book from start to finish.
Finally, Hitz also includes a link to "200+ Free Book Marketing and Author Tools," a free PDF that you can download as a bonus for signing up for her newsletter. When I went to the URL listed in the book, I discovered that this has actually changed to a free download of Building A Book Marketing Plan, which includes both a PDF and additional video training, along with free templates. How cool is that?
Overall, I found Shelley's book to be a great introduction to marketing your book at Amazon. While I did find most of the suggestions pretty basic, I still found plenty of useful tips in the book, and really enjoyed the multimedia addition of the video links. Shelley's conversational, down-to-earth writing style is easy to read, and each of her chapters offers actionable tips for improving your book's visibility at Amazon.com. While you can quickly breeze through the book in an hour or so, you're sure to find yourself flipping back through the chapters to complete more of your author profile or sign up for more sites that will help promote your book to readers.
In addition to this book, I would also highly recommend bookmarking Shelley's page, 76+ Places to Submit Your Free KDP Select Promotion for Your Kindle eBook. It's a great resource for promoting your ebooks during your KDP Free Days, and most of the sites listed there offer free postings that can really expand your book's promotional reach.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2012Shelley Hitz, you have outdone yourself with your book "Marketing Your Book on Amazon" This is a must read for anyone starting out on Amazon. Shelley has written this book with her reader in mind. Detailing the "Must Know" behind the scenes information (such as optional "visuals" aka screen shots) for anyone new to the scene who requires that little bit extra to really get what it is that Shelley is teaching. The book is easy to follow. There are numerous take out nuggets of gold that I made sure to include in my kindle/Amazon marketing strategy.
Beyond the book, "Marketing Your Book on Amazon" Shelley Hitz goes even further adding exceptional value by offering information second to none via email subscription. Shelley's email outs are relevant and on the button. This is one lady to watch. Her approach is supportive, motivational, inspirational and unique. I totally recommend "Marketing Your Book on Amazon by Shelley Hitz. Just in case you are wondering, I have never met Shelley. I am an author who is about to upload my books onto Kindle/Amazon for the first time. Instead of being a daunting process, I feel safe and secure in the knowledge of what to do and what pitfalls exist that I can now avoid. Thank you Shelley!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful!
I have already published books on Amazon, but I am still learning, and even if we believe that we know stuff it doesn't hurt to be reminded! I found this book to be interesting and helpful, and I have started to watch the author's YouTube videos, too, which have been incredibly helpful and encouraging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Präzise, anschaulich, schnell gelesen und sehr informativ!

4.0 out of 5 stars A clear, friendly and helpful guide to a complex and ever changing field
For 30+ years I had books published by traditional, old school publishers. They made a little money and so did I. Now publishers find themselves in a place where the pressure is on to just think blockbuster. So writers like me have to learn to publish ourselves or give up. And then - just when you thought you had climbed the last mountain - you have to learn all sorts of strange stuff about marketing your masterpiece. Marketing Your Book On Amazon gets you from A to B as painlessly as possible. And you get a fantastic free supplementary download which keeps things up to date. I found I wanted to reorganize all the material into a time frame of what to do when and maybe the author might consider this for the next update. Or maybe I'm just overdoing it. The important thing is that the author provided all the necessary information which even a technophobe like myself could understand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for novices AND experienced publishers
I've always been surprised at how much you can do as an author for free - the problem is the amount of valuable writing time you can waste trying to work put what to do and how. Shelley assumes no specific knowledge and manages to pack in enough great advice to satisfy even the most experienced marketing specialist. I very much agree with her view that authors need to see book marketing as a 'marathon, not a sprint' and to follow the principle of doing some small thing every day to market each of your books for three years.
