Editorial Reviews
When global bass music matriarch Mary Anne Hobbs recently told The Fader "Flying Lotus, for me,is like the Hendrix of his generation", it seemed more than an audacious opinion, and with the arrival of Cosmogramma, it's revealed as a revelation. In the past couple of years since his debut album, Los Angeles, Flying Lotus has grown into the position of being far more than a producer, he has helped materialize a far-reaching strain of musical ideology that has encompassed not only a global family of like-minded artists, but also a nearly infinite palate of planetary (and interplanetary) sonics. No longer simply an outgrowth of Ellison's machines, the music here is also the product of live instrumentalists from the worlds that Cosmogramma engages. There's the constant bass presence of "Thundercat", a cornerstone of Sa-Ra Creative; there's Rebekah Raff's harp connecting the dots between the music of Harry Partch and Ghostface Killah (both of which she's performed); there's an appearance by the tenor sax of Steven's cousin and jazz royalty, Ravi Coltrane, and by the voice of one Thom Yorke, an Oxford bloke taking respite from singing in the most influential rock band of the 21st century.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2024I love this album from the bottom of my heart, I will never experience anything like this again. Every second of this album I love. Table Tennis is some of the most ethereal soundwaves ever. I cried to the outro of Drips//Auntie's Harp many times, this album is a googolplex/10. Thank you FlyLo.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2010This is an amazing album. I don't buy a lot of music, usually opting to stream through Napster or Last.fm or Pandora instead, but this had to go on my iPod. Like Lotus, I'm an L.A. native and, when I was at The Colony last night and asked the DJ to "play Flying Lotus", he gave me the knowing look that the guys in Fight Club give Ed Norton as he travels the country realizing Fight Clubs have sprung up everywhere.
The complex layers and incredible texture of each track are just beautiful. No two tracks sound similar. It's as much an experience as it is an album. You'll find yourself hearing new things after playing the album 40 times. I wake up wanting to listen to it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2011Below were my initial impressions, and I was wrong. This is a dense, artistic intellectual work. Like reading a classic novel it opens itself up from repeated readings. Perhaps this is the Tonal art of the future, constructed by complicated individuals for complicated individuals....I always admit when I am wrong - Dj4cast
Several publications are calling this the release of 2010, I don't. I purchased it because I would like to support American electronica but this escapes me. Sorry. No moments of beauty to make up for the collage. Perhaps this is for the younger more adventurous, I don't get it.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2013My favorite album by Flying Lotus. This is gonna be tough for him to beat.
This album features the wonderful bassist, Thundercat, who is SUPER talented.
On the track featuring Thom Yorke, FlyLo uses his vocals just as he would any other vocal sample, not going out of his way to shout to the listener, "HEY GUYS, THIS IS THOM! ISN'T HE COOL?" FlyLo doesn't compromise his musical integrity for the sake of featuring a famous vocalist, and I admire him for that.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2021great packaging, beautiful album would rate 1000 stars if I could
- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2013Heard "Do the Astral Plane" on 88.9 Radio Milwaukee and just dug it. I had my intro to this sound with Aphex Twin and Squarepusher ten to fifteen years ago. Still listen to them from time to time but i really enjoy FL's jazz tones and samples. Very happy with the buy.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2012If you like experimental music, soundscape and rhythm that jives and grooves, buy this album. I will acknowledge that it is definitely not for everyone, but look up a song or two on YouTube, see if you like the vibe, and then proceed to have your mind completely blown when you listen to this. One thing's for sure though, listen to this start to finish, in really nice headphones or with loud speakers, it's absolutely incredible, and I'm keeping my eye in this guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfetto
Questo disco è un capolavoro sperimentale, non c'è che dire, e in vinile suona perfettamente. Il pacchetto è ottimo, con un gatefold lucido e robusto con artwork astratti e complessi, di ottima fattura. Servizio ottimo, tutto è arrivato in perfette condizioni grazie all'imballaggio apposito per dischi in vinile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sehr besonders!!!
Wie soll ich`s beschreiben? Einfach: WOW!
: ("\(^_^)/")

5.0 out of 5 stars du tout bon

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't know much about jazz but...
This is about as jazzy as things get, in the loosest sense of the word. A great deal of the songs on here just make you want to groove and feel cool for no apparent reason. Nowhere is this more true than 'Do The Astral Plane' but 'Computer Face//Pure Being', '...and the world laughs with you' and 'Table Tennis' are all amazing songs too for very different reasons. It's busy music, and a bit nonsensical at times but have no doubts that this is an incredible album and a more than adequate successor to Los Angeles and arguably has better cohesion as an album as a whole. Forward-thinking music fans should just buy both this and Los Angeles on sight, Flying Lotus is one of the best artists of all time and although I wouldn't go so far as to say the Jimi Hendrix of electronic music, they're style of creation is completely different, I would say that Fly Lo rivals Jimi on the sheer quality of his music.
