Laura Bull spent ten years with Sony Music Entertainment where she became one of the company’s youngest executives at the age of twenty-eight. During her tenure, she spearheaded artist development and marketing for globally recognized brands including Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley, and Johnny Cash among hundreds of other artists from Arista, RCA, Columbia, Epic, and Monument records. A veteran of the music industry, she has served for more than a decade on the National Advisory Board for Musicians On Call.

She is an expert who specializes in marketing and transforming people into viable brands by offering insurmountable knowledge to teach others what it takes to become a powerful “influencer.” Everyone in the marketing arena keeps discussing the power of influencers, but no one is discussing how an influencer becomes powerful. Now she redefines the term “influencer” by expanding its scope offline, highlights positive psychology principles in terms of branding, and reveals the proprietary Brand Matrix to help entrepreneurs discover their authentic and competitive brand.

A consultant and speaker, Bull has been an adjunct professor teaching disciplines in marketing and music business at multiple colleges and universities, including SMU’s Temerlin Advertising Institute. She has a BBA from Belmont University’s Mike Curb School of Music Business and a Master of Liberal Studies from Southern Methodist University.

    So far, I am thoroughly enjoying this book by Laura Bull. Her years of experience as an executive and her wisdom really shine through the pages. I am loving the information in this book. The piece is also packed with extremely helpful and unique resources to help you figure out how to brand yourself specifically to who you are. I would completely recommend this book to anyone who has no knowledge, experience, or guidance looking for a way to plan out a personal brand. This book provides excellent guidance!

    If you're a media influencer or thinking about becoming one, read this book!!! Laura Bull has the experience and know how to set you up for successful, personal branding. You can tell that her experience helping brand several successful, music personalities is definitely a key asset. She delivers practical advice without a lot of jargon, uses clear concise language in her explanations and provides excellent examples. She also provides helpful resources and exercises to help you work through the branding process. I really like that with the purchase of the book, you also get special access to more tools and information on her website. There are a lot of branding "experts" out there but I'm learning there is a big difference in creating brand identity for an inanimate product vs. a person. She talks about these differences and really gets you to think about what it's going to take set yourself up for success. This book makes the whole process of building a brand identity feel very approachable. Not that it's not going to take some time, thought and work but the process doesn't seem overwhelming now. I'd say this is a must read for anyone who may be thinking about becoming an influencer, or already is and needs help clarifying their brand id or rebranding.

    This book was an impulse buy and I'm so glad I went for it! It showed up just at the right time. I have personally discovered how much a lack of a strong brand can hurt a product. Just a good product is not enough if it doesn't have emotional resonance. A strong brand creates emotional resonance. Laura's book is friendly and interesting to read, and at the same time, it really helped me become comfortable with having a clear brand, being excited about it and shaping my business around it.

    I initially thought this book would be about marketing a product or business. And I suppose it is, with the capitalist ideal that people are products and businesses are people.

    Don't let my socialist bias deter you, this was a fascinating book. You can definitely see the real world applications as well as use for LAMBs -- y'all remember how the Mockingjay was branded in the Hunger Games.

    This book is my business brand bible right now, I've read other books on the subject and Laura Bull nails it on perfectly! I read through it and now I am doing the exercises and I am looking forward to finishing it and write Laura a thank you letter for helping me get my entrepreneur spirit going and eventually get my business going with what I have learned from From Individual to Empire.

    This is the best book I’ve read regarding social media and building influence. I’ve been through so many books searching for the information provided in this one. This book dives deeper than the many social media books I’ve read, as most of them are very shallow and give common advice that you probably already know. This is the only book I’ve read that gives the full snapshot of what it takes to become a thriving influencer...both mentally and strategically. On top of that there’s several exercises laid out in an easy to follow manner that will help you create a strong foundation.

    I was looking for a book on personal branding, recently, and then remembered that I’d purchased Laura’s book at the recommendation of a friend on Instagram.

    It did not disappoint!

    Laura’s Brand Matrix helps you identify your strengths, and walks you through the steps to create your own Brand Statement.

    Each chapter gives you some quick action steps to help guide you through the process.

    I did get a little stuck in the process, but that was remedied after I downloaded the supplementary materials from Laura’s website.

    Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and feel a lot more clear on my brand, and my purpose.
