Growing up in the cold, wet, north of England, Nina Croft spent a lot of time dreaming of faraway sunnier places and ponies. When she discovered both, along with a whole load of other things, could be found between the covers of a book, her life changed forever.
Later, she headed south, picked up the perfect husband along the way, and together they volunteered to work in Africa. There they discovered a love of exotic places and a dislike of 9-5 work. Afterward they spent a number of years travelling (whenever possible) intermingled with working (whenever necessary.) Eventually they stumbled upon a remote area in the mountains of southern Spain and the small almond farm they now call home.
Nina spends her days reading, writing and riding her mare, Gencianna, under the blue Spanish skies—sunshine and ponies. She reckons this is proof that dreams really can come true if you want them enough.
Nina's writing mixes romance with elements of the paranormal and science fiction

Peter is a New Zealand/Australian science fiction writer specializing in making hard science fiction easy to understand and thoroughly enjoyable.
His FIRST CONTACT series is topical rather than character-based, meaning each book stands alone. These novels can be read in any order, but they all focus on the same topic of First Contact with extraterrestrial lifeforms. In this regard, the series is akin to BLACK MIRROR or THE TWILIGHT ZONE.
Hard science fiction is a misnomer as far as categories of literature go, as it sounds harsh and difficult to understand, but that is far from reality. Hard science fiction is simply plausible science fiction, fiction that is written in such a way that it conforms to the known laws of science, and that makes it more interesting, as there's no magic wand the protagonist can wave to get out of trouble. Peter's forays into hard science fiction could best be described as informative science fiction or enjoyable science fiction.
Peter is a fan of such classic science fiction writers as Philip K. Dick, Arthur C. Clarke and Michael Crichton, and their influence on his style and storylines is readily apparent. You can follow Peter on Facebook or Twitter or find him posting some interesting tidbits on his thinkingscifi blog
A.K. Meek is a reader, reviewer, and writer, mostly speculative fiction. He lives in the South with his wonderful family and menagerie of dogs and cats.
Always at the mercy of his overactive imagination, Samuel spent his formative years terrified of the monsters under his bed.
His horror novels usually focus on the epic theme of good versus evil but on a human scale. He likes stories that show ordinary people facing extraordinary odds, with enough heart-pumping action to keep the pages turning.
He recently spent three years traveling the world with his wife. They welcomed their son near the end of that journey and are now spending their days exploring the United States while Samuel works on his next book.

I've always been thinking of stories for as long as I've been alive. I have way, way, way too many to tell and far too little time to tell them.
In 2011 I actually started shaping and weaving those random, jumbling, chaotic masses of thoughts into coherent narratives and began self-publishing.
I write a little science fiction, a little fantasy, a little humour and comedy, and a few other things all over the place.

Deirdre Gould lives in Central Maine with her three children and husband. She's also resided in northern Idaho, coastal Virginia and central Pennsylvania, but all of them just led her back home. The winters sure are cold, but that just means the zombies run slower. The area is isolated, but that just means the apocalyptic diseases don't spread as quickly. And the storms are bad enough that no one thinks you're crazy for "prepping." It's kind of ideal for a post-apocalypse writer when you think about it.

Moira Katson writes Fantasy and Science Fiction novels. Born and raised in the farmland of the eastern United States, she is now a transplant living in the oft-frigid wastes of the midwest, where she is learning to love hot dish, fried food on a stick, ice fishing, and the hilarious faces her friends make when she tells them about winter temperatures. ...just kidding, she has no intentions to learn how to ice fish.
Despite the fact that she had been writing since childhood, Moira majored in nice, sensible subjects in college and went on to have a nice, sensible job, all the while continuing to write about dragons, courts, and spaceships. She has since bowed to the inevitable and begun releasing her work into the world! Her first book was released in 2012, and her current projects include Rise of Aiqasal and several projects under pen name Natalie Grey!
To find out more about Moira and her upcoming works, visit her website, http://moirakatson.com, or find her on Facebook or twitter, @moirakatson! If you are a SciFi fan, she recommends that you try out The Dragon Corps (under pen name Natalie Grey) or Crucible, the first book in the Novum Trilogy. For fantasy fans, she recommends Shadowborn (the first book in the Light & Shadow series) or Bound Sorcery, the first book in her Shadows of Magic series under pen name Natalie Grey.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2015Over the past year, Samuel Peralta has diligently and deliberately put together a powerhouse science fiction anthology series. He's been able to attract big name authors such as Hugh Howey, Ken Liu, Seanan McGuire, Robert J. Sawyer, Jennifer Foehner Wells, and Matthew Mather among many others. But, what makes the Future Chronicles volumes great is the platform for new and emerging talent from the trenches of indie authors. While the established authors have been the cornerstone for these collections, the indie talent Sam chooses for each book is exciting and raw.
Full Disclosure: I've been privileged to be in three FC anthologies so far (Alien, Z & Immortality) and have spots reserved in at least two more scheduled to run in the next six to eight months. Other than reading and loving The Future Chronicles Special Edition anthology, I have no involvement in the collection.
So if the different anthologies released in the past year were all-star teams, then The Future Chronicles is a best of the best. Some of my favorite stories from collections like The Robot Chronicles, The Telepath Chronicles, The Alien Chronicles and The A.I. Chronicles appear, inviting you to rediscover them, to read them again for the first time in the context of this new collection, outside of the confines of their genre-specific collection. For some, it seems to imbue them with new meaning. When reading A.K. Meek's The Invariable Man (later expanded to a longer book) with a brand new story on one end and stories about telepaths just pages later, it almost can be read with a new and different point of view.
In The Future Chronicles, we get eleven stories previously released in those first four of the Future Chronicles collections. Each of these stories is excellent and represents those anthologies wonderfully. What is an extra treat are five brand new stories from Sam Best, Susan Kaye Quinn, Deirdre Gould, Angela Cavanaugh, and Moira Katson, as well as a Foreword penned by Hugh Howey. Each is a breath of fresh air. With the general theme, you don't quite know what to expect...will these stories be about robots, telepathy, aliens, or something else entirely. I'm thrilled to say each of these could very well serve as a foundational block for an anthology of their own.
While I don't want to ruin any discovery a reader will make on their own, Sam Best really rocks the beginning of the entire collection, Quinn again provides her own brand of singularity fiction with her story, Gould presents a mind-bending tale that will leave you shaking your head, Cavanaugh could give you nightmares (or are they...) for her story The Assistant and Katson threatens to leave you with tears after reading her heartbreaking story of defiance in the face of death.
What's really amazing is how each of these stories works not only in the confines of their own specific genre, but also all alone and then back in the comfort of other Future Chronicles stories that may or may not be in the same vein. Peralta has crafted a juggernaut and readers are reaping the benefits. If you get the chance, read The Future Chronicles and then explore the other titles available in the Kindle Store.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2016Tl;dr at the bottom.
You really can't beat this for $.99. Or even $4.99 if it's priced higher than what I paid. $5 is still a steal.
There's a little something for everyone in this collection. I ended up skipping two stories that I just couldn't get into, but the rest managed to grab my attention.
I thought I would quickly summarize my favorites for you.
One story in particular "Legacy" by Moira Katson, left me feeling haunted long after I finished it, and goes down as possibly my favorite. I feel like revealing anything more will ruin the slow revelation of the horror a young woman finds herself in, so this is where I will leave it.
Another story actually managed to fool me well into the story, and I only realized the twist about to come right before it was made apparent. I don't get to enjoy that very often these days, and I'm going to refrain from writing the title out so as to not spoil the potential surprise for others.
I enjoyed "Piece of Cake" by Patrice Fitzgerald. I empathize immensely with the poor woman who only wants a taste of sweetness, and the struggle she faced to do so.
"#Don'tTell" by Peter Cawdron could easily make a novel that I would devour. It details the struggles of empaths, and the bigotry they face. The stories told by one empath were fascinating, and I could read more, and more of them.
The last story I'll touch on is called "Iterations" by Deirdre Gould. It revolves around death, and what might follow, and I enjoyed it's ideas greatly.
I hope I've been able to pique you're interest with my summaries. I've tried to convey the essence of the stories without giving to much away. (I am only a reader, and not a writer, I hope my limited abilities don't hurt my cause!)
All of the authors managed to write relatively well, with good plots, and characters that were believable.
One or two stumbled a bit, and had lower quality writing, but mostly still wrote enjoyable tales.
I knocked a star off for the few transposed words, or typos, and for the one story so poorly written I had to skip it, despite the fact that not finishing a story goes against my entire being.
I would've only knocked half of one off, but Amazon still hasn't made that a thing. I still think it's worth that many stars because of the amount of entertainment for the price.
Before this, I read "The Doomsday Chronicles", and enjoyed it too. After posting this review I'm going to go pick out another in the chronicle series!
Tl;dr: If you like sci-fi of any kind, there's a story or two for you. Well worth the low cost!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exzellent compilation
Very interesting stories, good writing. I have found many good authors for further exploration of possible futures, some of these futures desirable, some kind of frightening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well selected good stories
I did not intend it to be this way necessarily, but apart from the enjoyment of reading such a wide variety of tales, I have found that this collection is a successful gold mine for finding riches in the form of new authors, and I am busy following them up now. I had only heard of one of the writers before, so this is a good find.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book of stars
The Future Chronicles is a remarkably good series of books of short stories, each bursting with tales by various authors based around a single theme. This volume, the Special Edition, is exactly that - a special selection of some of the best contributions assembled from these themes volumes. All are stand alone, good, innovative, thought provoking stories and some are simply brilliant.
A marvellous way to discover the writings of new authors as well as reconnecting with favourites. Each story is followed by a brief word by the author about how they came to write their piece as well as information on their other works and contact details. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice diverse set of stories with a common theme
I enjoy a series of short stories. It’s amazing how authors can create a mood and develop a character in such a short time. A great book to read on a cottage vacation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reminiscent of the Golden Age of Science fiction
I really loved Samuel Peralta's own short story contribution at the end and A. K. Meek's story too both were brilliant and reminded me of the Golden Age of Science fiction stories I used to love to read when I was a teenager. I wasn't actually too keen on the other stories in the compilation as most of them seemed to lack any real endings. I got the book free but I'm going to buy some of Samuel Peralta's other compilations as I loved his story so much. I'd love to read more from A. K Meek also but I don't seem to be able to find anything
