Everything He Thought He Knew Kindle Edition
Malachi lives by his rules: no risks, no names, no repeats.
Love burned him once, and he’s been picking up the pieces of his life ever since—alone. At home, he’s haunted by the silence. At work, he’s a shadow of the man he used to be. And yet, somehow, he lets himself get talked into a night out.
Enter the stranger. Dreamy-eyed, achingly gorgeous, and entirely too naked in Malachi’s condo. It’s supposed to be simple—an escape, not a promise. Malachi knows better than to believe in love, let alone second chances. One night only. That’s the rule. And rules are there for a reason.
But when the door closes, regret creeps in. What if this wasn’t just a fleeting spark? What if he’s just turned away the one person who could put his shattered life back together? . .
Set against a backdrop of longing, heartbreak, and the bittersweet ache of what could have been, Everything He Thought He Knew is a seductive exploration of love’s messy, complicated truths. Because sometimes, the rules we live by are the very things holding us back.

About the author

My first bout with depression, when I was twenty-three, taught me an important lesson: life isn’t necessarily fair or easy. So, most days, I’m the guy who sees the glass half-full. Some days, though, I see it half-empty.
That’s why the characters you meet in my books are sometimes a little broken, maybe even unlikeable (at the beginning, anyway). That’s because, like me, they struggle to find their place in the world and fear they’ll never belong. They may not get the happily ever after they think they deserve or end up where they thought they would, but in the end they never lose hope.
And here’s the thing… My books aren’t going to, necessarily, leave you warm and fuzzy inside. Exploring themes of self-acceptance, love, friendship, family, loss and forgiveness, they may just challenge your deeply held assumptions about yourself and the people you hold dearly in your life.

And, oh, while I love writing, I’m also an avid runner (ran my first full marathon in 2019; I was forty-six) and I get really creative in the kitchen, too. It’s never too late to chase your dreams.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2019The definition of a Good book is one which draws you in and at its completion, turns your world upside down, inside out, and leaves you trying to re-order your inner chaos. This is More than a Good book! It's left me reeling and will haunt me for a long time to come.
The pursuit of life, love, and happiness stripped down to what is real, visceral, and sometime painfully internal. This is a moving piece of literary art.
Marcus Lopes, Thank You!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2020This was a very different kind of storyline for me to read but I enjoyed it. Sometimes you have to go through somethings to find yourself and this journey for him was a good one.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2019Not a bad read, but somehow the characters drew me in less than I hoped. Malachi isn’t designed to be especially likeable, but he is recognizable. The writing style is fine. Perhaps I’m just not the right reader for this book. I’ll try another by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2018What I liked about this story was the fact the author kept the sex scenes between the characters up to the reader’s imagination. I was a little disappointed that the main character had a difficult time moving on with life much earlier in the story, and finding love.
This story was a serious story and it captured the serious life that a gay man will most likely experience at some point in his life.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2019This is a difficult book. There isn't really...an ending. It is intense and draws you in.
But. Malachi is a difficult creature. There isn't any growth to him as a character I don't feel, and that taints the entire book for me.
But. It draws you in and keeps you. The characters, while they may not all be likeable, they are relateable. And very real.
Realistic. Bitter. Bleak.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2019I don't mind books that are a little heavier to read, as long as there's something redeeming about it. And when I choose to read such books, it's because they have some literary merit or value. I don't expect to pick up a cheesy M/M romance and wonder part way through if I've gone through the looking glass and am reading a cheesy romance written by someone who thinks they're Camus or something. It was like reading The Stranger, but without The literary depth. The main character started as a complete jerk in the beginning, was a jerk through the middle, and was still a jerk at the end (Amazon wouldn't approve of the words I really wanted to use there - use your imagination). And there was absolutely no value to everything he put himself and every one unfortunate enough to know him through.
And by the way, feeding bread to ducks is bad for them. The bread swells up in their stomachs and keeps them from getting the nutrition they need from regular food that they don't eat because they're full of the bread you stupidly give them for you own entertainment.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2021A very good story of a person finding themselves and looking for love. Just wasn’t the ending I was expecting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Storyline
Another radiant Marcus Lopes page turner, it focuses in the life of Malachi, an academic and writer and his loves. It feels an authentic story, with interesting characters, it explores the challenges and difficulties people face in trying to find the love of their lives in terms of attraction, sex, love and the mundanity of living together as a couple. It’s a provocative storyline of emotional rollercoasters and intrigue. Whilst I really enjoyed the book I found the ending difficulty, it haunted me for quite a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking, emotional journey
This book centres around Malachi, an author and professor, as he journeys through love. I find it very interesting to see how the character deals with the different relationships in his life. The character’s thoughts and reactions are well-developed, and the supporting characters provide a well-rounded cast. If you are looking for an emotional, thought-provoking read, this is a good book for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars Can Read Once
An interesting book though i did not like it. Personally i prefer fairy tale ending. This book details about the journey about the people. It is well written and good characterisation
