Consequences (A Vested Interest Book 7) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 57 ratings

Book 7 of the 'A Vested Interest' series.

Although conceived by him, Sam Triplet was no longer the father of Donna's unborn child. The baby she carried now belonged to Jared Thundercloud, a man she hadn't seen for two years, in fact, they hadn't even shared their first kiss. When the discovery was made, Donna was just as shocked as everyone else, but it had been genetically proven.

On the quest, the Dine’é Yá had intervened. They gave Donna a choice. To save her from explaining the change they'd made to her baby, the Dine’é Yá would wipe Sam's memory, and that of everyone else who helped rescue her from the Others. Sam would not remember being in love with Donna, and whatever experiences they'd shared, or how their relationship had changed Sam's character, would be lost too. The part that bothered Donna most? Sam would be given no choice in the matter.  Sam had been unfaithful to Donna, but did two wrongs make a right?

How much would Donna risk to be with Jared? How many lives was she willing to change in order to keep the extraordinary gift she'd been given? What would be the consequences of her choice? The Dine’é Yá had warned her, they would not change anything, nor would they interfere if she made the wrong choice.

John Chapman co-authors the successful 'A Vested Interest' romantic technothriller series with his wife Shelia.

Born in Newcastle on Tyne, England John lead a pretty boring early life. He lived in a Buddhist monastery, a civilized place with no electricity, no phone, no flush toilet, stone slab floors and a water supply which ran down a field in an open ditch. When he was sent to boarding school he accidentally set fire to it. He became a chemistry teacher but was frustrated by not being allowed to do all the interesting experiments. He changed to teaching computers in the early 80s and was delighted to find they would do exactly what they were told (unlike his pupils.)

He met his wife Shelia in an Internet chat room in 1997 - see it does work sometimes! They had problems with UK and US immigration departments and spent three years as illegal immigrants in Canada where they earned a living designing web pages. That was followed by six years of teaching in London before returning to the North to pursue a career in writing.

So what are the books about?

The A Vested Interest series is based on the need for mankind to move outward from the Earth if we are to survive as a species. At our current level of technology that's actually possible but two things need to be changed. First, we need to extend human lifespan dramatically. Using genetic technology that really is possible! The first person to live to 1,000 is probably alive now. Second, we need to stop squandering our resources and efforts on fighting and killing each other. The Earth's population as a whole don't actually want to do this. In the series we postulate that a secret organisation of powerful people are the cause of much of the strife. This cabal control governments and make more money by having the world at war. A Vested Interest suggests that the only way to turn things around is to have a more profitable enterprise for this 'Order' to turn their efforts towards. The drive into Space to escape a doomsday threat is that better alternative.

I generally do not read entire series I'm usually satisfied after reading one maybe two at the most, but I have not been able to put this one down and I'm on to book eight! The character's are so interesting that you just have to find out what happens to them next. I'm so invested in each character, the authors are good at drawing you in.I love the Si - Fi aspect of it all. A little less on the sex in detail would be nice, but over all it has so much thought and effort put into it that it is a great read I would highly recommended it.

I've read the first three books then started on the Vested Interest series .Up to this book I had been enjoying the series .My big complaint is in this book you rewrite the history of Jared and Donna even though up to the previous book of the series Jared was part of Triplet Industries and had a intense relationship with Donna .Why we reintroduced him and rewrite the story I have no clue .While I'm so far into this series I must finish the storyline has become chaotic and hurried.

This is a wonderful series that keeps you so interested in the people who are in this series that you just have to continue to read the series. This series was a very pleasent surprise as this is not genre that I usually read. These aurthors are an awesome team of writers, that hold your intrest from book 1-the end of the series.

WOW! What a ride! This trilogy is the story of Jared prior to the Vested Interest series. Sheila Chapman continues to enchant us with her amazing characters.

Getting better as far as typos are concerned. Story is exciting making me want to read any books that follow. I'd like to see a little less sex. It seems that it's just there to drag out the story or maybe to make it more like a dime store sex book.

What would you do for the one you love. Could you lie to yourself? Can someone be so forgiving. Donna Triplet is . Find out what a true heart will do.

I am reading this entire A Vested Interest series, and am just loving it! It is full of twisted characters, with lots of surprises at every turn, and I find it hard to put it down at night when I am supposed to be sleeping! It's hard to get sleepy when reading this book. I highly recommend this entire series to anyone that enjoys fantasy type characters. I almost slipped up, and said what kind of fantasy creature, but I don't wan to spoil any discoveries you will be making as you read the books!

Another great book but why all the sloppy love scenes and descriptive sex scenes??? I don,t get it! This totally gets away from everything that is going on, there is just too much of it!! To tell you the truth I am a bit disappointed with this book after reading the previous 6. I personally feel too much time was spent on the lively dovey bits. I hope the last book in the series is better, getting more into the actual story!!!!!!
