Rebel Heir: Book One: The Rush Series, Volume 1 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 8,990 ratings

From New York Times best-selling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward comes the first book in a new sexy duet.

How to kick off a great summer in the Hamptons:

Snag a gorgeous rental on the beach. Check.

Get a job at a trendy summer haunt. Check.

How to screw up a great summer in the Hamptons:

Fall for the one guy with a dark leather jacket, scruff on his face, and intense eyes that doesn’t fit in with the rest of the tony-looking crowd. A guy you can’t have when you’ll be leaving at the end of the season.

Check. Check. Check.

I should add - especially when the guy is your sexy, tattooed god of a boss.

Especially when he not only owns your place of employment but inherited half of the town.

Especially when he’s mean to you.

Or so I thought.

Until one night when he demanded I get in his car so he could drive me home because he didn’t want me walking in the dark.

That was sort of how it all started with Rush.

And then little by little, some of the walls of this hardass man started to come down.

I never expected that the two of us, seemingly opposites from the outside, would grow so close.

I wasn't supposed to fall for the rebel heir, especially when he made it clear he didn’t want to cross the line with me.

As the temperature turned cooler, the nights became hotter. My summer became a lot more interesting - and complicated.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Rebel Heir is the first book in the Rush Series Duet. Book Two, Rebel Heart, will release six weeks later on May, 22, 2018.

With lots of comedy and a ton of angst thrown in, Rebel Heir will leave you breathless!
Ward and Keeland once again killed it with their signature writing style. With lots of comedy and a ton of angst thrown in, Rebel Heir will leave you breathless!Rebel Heir follows Gia and Rush. It’s summer in The Hamptons. Gia finds herself behind the bar covering for her friend when she meets Rush, owner of the bar, resident jerk, and al around bad boy. Rush doesn’t get involved with employees and Gia has to focus on her day job. Their connection is like nothing they’ve experienced before and can’t help but explore each other more.”Say anything you want to about Gia, but she was real. Maybe that’s what drew me to her. Because so much in my life was superficial and fake. This girl seemed like she had nothing to hide.”Without spoiling anything, I’ll say this. Read Rebel Heir right now! Yes, it’s a duet, yes there’s a bit of a cliffhanger, but this book! GAH! You won’t be disappointed. It’s got so much delicious angst and tension, and Gia and Rush’s chemistry is just off the charts. Rebel Heart comes out next month and I’m already dying for it!“When you’re afraid to fall in love with someone, it’s usually because you’ve already started to fall, sweetheart.”

I’m a big fan of both Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, and I especially love their co-written work. Two of Vi’s books landed on my 2017 favorites list, and she’s already claimed a spot on this year’s list. Keeland and Ward are a perfect pairing because they clearly work well together. Not only do their writing styles mesh seamlessly, but the transitions between the two authors are also virtually undetectable. As someone who’s read several of each author’s individual works, I can’t discern who is writing what, and that’s exactly how a co-written novel should read. Together, they consistently turn out stories that are not only well written and plotted, but that flow smoothly and draw the reader in, holding their attention with hard won yet beautiful, sexy love stories that are difficult to put down.

I’ll be honest, I’ve always shied away from cliffhangers because I’ve considered myself to be the kind of reader who needed the instant gratification of a complete story. I’ve been a strictly romance reader for the last 8 years, averaging about a book a day. I’ve read thousands of romance novels, avoiding cliffhangers like the plague. But over the last year or so, I’ve read a couple of stories that ended in a cliffhanger, and with a few caveats, I might have changed my stance somewhat. As long as the wait between books isn’t too long, I’ve found that I enjoy the actual experience of anticipating the release of the next book. I know, I know—color me surprised, too. I knew going into the Rush Series duet that a cliffhanger was involved, but the blurbs intrigued me enough that I really wanted to read these books. Most surprisingly, though, is that I think the fact that I have to wait for more of Rush and Gia’s story is genuinely ramping up my excitement. Of course, part of me wants the next book to suddenly appear on my Kindle, say, like right now. But, there is another part of me that is content with delaying that satisfaction and simply relishing in the opportunity to look forward to the release of Rebel Heart. Without going into too much detail, I’ll just say that while I am definitely eager to know what happens next, the authors gave me enough while still managing to leave me hungry for more—a feat I am certain was not easy to pull off but one that they did and did well.

Rush and Gia’s story started with a rush, that’s for sure. This wasn’t a typical boy-meets-girl, run-of-the-mill romance at all. Despite not having known each other for long, they definitely clicked, and a friendship built quickly and easily—or as easily as it could have built between two friends who had this kind off-the-charts chemistry sparking between them. I was swept right up into this romance along with Rush and Gia. They clearly enjoyed each other’s company, they had a lot of fun together, and this translated into some fantastic banter. But there was more than just a friendship forming here. The undeniable physical attraction pulsing between them, practically demanding acknowledgment, kept me invested in this couple and tapping my Kindle hoping for more.

A rebel in every sense of the word, Rush wasn’t looking for a relationship at all. His history clearly messed with his thought process on them, and while part of him definitely wanted to corrupt Gia in the most delicious ways, another part of him wanted to protect her—even if what he thought she needed protecting from was him. His confusion where she was concerned was evident and clearly communicated, which made his feelings and fears something that the reader could sympathize with. Gia had her own issues, and she certainly wasn’t the falling-at-his-feet bombshell he usually hooked up with. Her frank honesty, and the way she called him out, giving as good as she got, not to mention her curves, her looks and those glasses, sealed the deal though, and they were soon crossing the line. A surprise bump in the road pushes them back into the friend zone, but it isn’t long before Rush realizes that’s not where he wants to be. Too bad that bump in the road will feel like a pebble in their path compared to the boulder that’s just been dropped in front of them.

Keeland and Ward penned a sexy surprise-filled page-turner in Rebel Heir that was complex and positively engrossing. This was the kind of story that I found myself devouring, but as the pages turned and I neared the end, I was slowing my reading simply because I didn’t want it to be over. I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for Rebel Heart to release, and the kicker is that I’m perfectly happy to be here. Rebel Heir by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward gets five smooches from me!

The Rebel Heir has captured my heart.  These characters, the chemistry as a couple, and the banter hooked me in from the very first page.  Rush and Gia are absolutely enthralling.

Rush is absolutely, hands down, without a doubt my favorite Vi Keeland/Penelope Ward hero.  He is arrogant with the right amounts of jerk and charm, and he oozes charisma and sex appeal.  Honestly, I was attracted to him from the first line he uttered.  I had no problems believing that girls would be chomping at the bit to get their hands on him. I would if I would be there. Plus, he has that heart of gold underneath.  Make no mistake, though, his soft heart is for a select few, but it is good enough to make me swoon hard for him.

Gia's personality is absolutely infectious. Something about her draws the reader and Rush in. She is light and fun, loyal, working hard to chase her dreams - basically the type of heroine you would want to be friends with. I adore her character, and love her banter with Rush.  She isn't afraid to push his buttons, to put her desires out there, or to go for what she wants, whether that is her career or Rush.

The chemistry between these two is absolutely insane.  Their personalities click, the friendship is perfect, the flirting is the best foreplay, and the tension between the two radiates. I love every single moment that these two walk the fine line between friends and lovers.

So at this point, you are probably wondering why the 4 CROWN rating if all I have been doing is gushing over these characters and their relationship.  Well, by 11% I knew the plot twist.  I knew what the final scene of the book was going to be, and I was not wrong. The writing is great, what we expect from these authors. You've already read my adoration for these two characters. However, when I know how the story is going to play out from almost the very beginning, it decreases my enjoyment of the book.  I want to be slammed with the plot twist and have my mouth gaping open in shock. I didn't get this. Am I excited for Rebel Heart?  Absolutely, the fall out is going to be EPIC if I know Rush.  I don't know where the story is going to go, and I hope I get to experience the ride while it is happening with the second book versus figuring it out early.

Fans of these two will adore this book. Readers will fall in love with these characters, revel in the chemistry that heats up the screen, and cheer for these two to get together. Although I like more surprises with my plots, the characters and the relationship are enough to carry the story and keep readers entertained.

If only I could use expletives it would truly emphasise my current feelings for this book. I have been completely and utterly engrossed and I imagine if I didn’t have work today I would have stayed up until I finished it. I couldn’t wait to get up this morning, I actually read it while getting ready for work. Which, my make up is not thanking me for.

I’m totally and utterly crushing on the main characters, they are so perfect. Gia being outspoken and being a natural beauty you just can’t help but envy her, but love her at the same time. Rush seems a typically irresistible bad guy gone good... or is she a good girl gone bad. Who knows. You’ll have to read it.

Very good plot twist too. My jaw literally hit the floor at the end and had me spiralling to find the next book.

Will definitely read more from this author. Very easy flow to the book which is exciting, engaging and very unique despite the cliche genre. Only thing, I’m very curious to find out about Gias book, maybe it’ll come to light in the next book. Who knows, I certainly couldn’t predict what’s about to go down.

I'm in love with Rush and Gia. I'm in love with their chemistry, their connection, their honesty. Rebel heir is an incredible story, a roller coaster of emotions (lust, laughter and be prepared also to shed a tear ot two) and with a mean cliffhanger ;)

    2.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't finish it. :(
Reviewed in Brazil on April 26, 2018
I'm really unhappy with this book, I really tried but I couldn't actually finish it. For me it's just annoying how everyone who behaves or dresses differently than Gia (till 57% of the book) is either a whore, or a slut or whatever, not just from her own point of view (which is the one that sadden me mostly) but also from Rush's pov. And the real problem is that is not something that happens lightly once or twice and is used in a way to send a message or teach something, is just something that happens over and over and over again in this book... as if this kind of speech was really harmless to women. C'mon, we're in 2018, this is a book written by two female authors. I'm disappointed to say the least.
And please, don't tell me that in order to a book to be erotic or whatever, you have to be degrading to women and make all your characters be as well. I read a lot of other books from the same genre and it's really rare to find this occurancy. I was actually surprised.
Well, if you're also a critic reader that worries about these kind of miscronstructions of women I really don't recommend this book in particular.
P.S.: The MAIN character is not portrait as "slut", till she puts on a skirt and some make up. What the fudge.

Teil.
