Bjork has done it again!!..another astonishing, innovative, textured, epic sounding yet emotionally involving album from this great artist.Vulnicura is another challenging album from bjork but it works on so many levels..this is where bjork explores her emotions on the break up of an ex..Art isn't art if it's not challenging, and bjork once again makes you feel and think and also suprising you and assulting you(In a good way with sonically diverse textures, layers and beats)..bjork is one of the most important artists in the music industry along with kate bush and madonna..another brilliant album from bjork, she just gets better and better.

Biophilia was still good, but still not as good as debut and homogenic. But this proves she is still going strong and can make music as good as her old stuff. some of it is very experimental but alot of it is more easy to listen too. 100% better than any breakup album ever better than adele.

This, I would suggest, is Bjork's best work to date. A sombre Vespertine. End to end it's perfectly crafted, and not so morose that you'll never want to go back to it. Proper arty in places, and I'm a sucker for the way it morphs and changes. If Bjork's single now (presume that's its point) I'm up for it.

A bit torn between three stars and four. Went for four on the basis that this is still an awesome bit of work compared to most of what is out there these days. I also think that putting "star" ratings on someone else's musical work is completely inappropriate. All I can really do in a review is give you some sense of my experience of listening to this and relate that to reference points which may make that more understandable to you. I also suspect that the vast majority of people who are going to buy this will have bought it within the first month of release so this a review for the stragglers :-)

I've bought all of Bjork's "main" albums (i.e. not all the remix albums, box sets etc - although I have some of those too). I'm definitely a fan and have been for some time. I'd go so far as to say that for a long time I'd answer the question of "who's your favourite artist" with either Radiohead, Bjork or both. My top Bjork tip - listen to Hyperballad on a system with a capable subwoofer - you may be surprised!

But I've struggled with much of her more recent work. I love the earlier albums and Vespertine is my top ten of all time. Since then, I've liked most of what she's done and there are always pieces of sheer brilliance on the albums (which sometimes get lost in a album listen strangely enough and jump out later for what they are when on "shuffle").

I'd have to agree with another reviewer that melody has gone a bit missing or is not such a priority for Bjork on Vulnicura. I'll admit that whilst I'm an avid music lover, perhaps my taste is not developed enough yet to appreciate the truly avant-garde. I need a softer introduction to it. Bjork has developed a style of harmonisation for instance on this and previous albums which is unique and powerful, but to my ears not particularly good sounding and somewhat samey. Useful for creating a mood on some songs, but a little overused and obscuring on others. On Vulnicura this is brought into sharp relief because Stonemilker is much more conventional in approach and simply sounds brilliant because of it. It leaves me longing for a bit more of that throughout.

That said, I typically find that albums which are harder at first become the best of friends over time and have staying power - so maybe more listening is needed.

This is still a very very good album. Much has been written about the personal nature of the lyrics and as my wife says, it does at times make you feel like you want to give Bjork a big hug as she's clearly been through the mill. I won't do song by song here as it's been done already, but hope that my take on it may be helpful for a straggler or two.

I've had this for a couple of months. I'm not a frequent reviewer but this deserves one. Bjork at her best, terrific album. Stonemilker has become a song added to my favourites folder, they've gotta be bloody good to get in there!

At times, difficult and hard to bare, but still a beautiful and deeply moving album from an artist in the depths of emotional pain and at the height of her artistry

Yet another great album by Bjork. Once again the music is dominated by stringed instruments and Björk said the album expresses her feelings following her breakup with artist Matthew Barney.

It's a beautiful album and the deluxe edition is definitely worth checking out, but if, like me, your a fan of Björk's ex Matthew Barney then some of the songs may be off-putting especially Black Lake, which shows Matthew Barney as some horrible creature that made her life hell. This is of course a break up album. I just don't think it's particularly fair and I don't see Matthew Barney making any films about their break-up, which is probably for the best. So I find Bjôrk's way of dealing with it rather immature and a bit selfish. I just feel sorry for Matthew having to deal with this album. I know nothing about their personal reasons but I do know that the relationship between them was once very beautiful as they connected amazingly and since she was with him her art and creativeness has evolved. So please take note that Matthew is not as Björk describes, that's just her opinion from their break-up, but that he is an underrated artistic genius that simply doesn't deserve these hate-songs.

Jhts., Bang on A Can und YMusic und andere Crossover-Ensembles, Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson, Tori Amos, Anja Garbarek, R.I.O./Henry Cow, Zeuhl/Magma und, ääh, was-nich-noch.
