Product description
Bette Midler has a film, music and stage career spanning almost half a century. The four time Grammy Award winning music icon has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and achieved double platinum success (665,000) with her last UK release ‘The Best of Bette’ in 2008, which featured global hits; Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, From A Distance, plus The Rose and Wind Beneath My Wings – which Bette sung at this year’s Oscar’s.
It’s The Girls, Bette’s first studio album for 8 years, sees her return to form, singing renditions of timeless classic 60s girl group songs such as ‘Be My Baby’ by The Ronettes, ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’ by The Supremes to more contemporary R&B, with a cover of TLC’s platinum hit ‘Waterfalls’ and a duet with Darlene Love, who recently featured in the Academy Award winning music documentary ’20 Feet From Stardom’.
It’s The Girls’ features 15 tracks produced by film and musical stalwarts, Marc Shaiman and Scott M. Riesett.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 August 2024I like the way Bette sings, she swings from belting them out to subtle tones. I most enjoy singing along with her in the car. Just wonderful 😊
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 November 2014This is a wonderful album. I have never been a particular fan of Bette Midler and there's always a danger in a labour of love project as this apparently was for her. She absolutely nails the vocals and is well served by brilliant arrangements and backing vocals (some of which she does herself).
Stand out tracks: The Chiffons' One Fine Day, The Exciters' Tell Him, the Shangri-Las' Give Him a Great Big Kiss. Bette Midler pays faithful homage to the great girl groups of the sixties. She adds class and energy of her own. The backing arrangements take over from where the originals left off. One Fine Day actually improves on Phil Spector's original production.
Less successful: Be My Baby - I missed the angst of 15-year old Ronnie Spector's vocal; You Can't Hurry Love - the country arrangement didn't do it for me.
Will You Love Me Tomorrow is a revelation. Much as I love the Shirelles' original and Carole King's own version, I think Miss Midler has produced the definitive version of this song. Her experience and maturity tell a whole new story.
Buy this album, you wont be able to stop playing it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 December 2014This CD is a great tribute to the Girl groups from the 1930`s to the 1960`s. Bette Midler transforms herself from a solo artiste of the highest order to a group. I have often heard of a lead singer in a group going solo, but this is the first time a solo artist has become a group. Convincing and technically brilliant!
There are 15 tracks comprising songs made famous by the Ronettes, Chiffons, Andrews Sisters, Shirelles, Exciters, Crystals, Chordettes, Martha and the Vandellas, Marvelettes, DeCastro Sisters, Boswell Sisters and the Supremes. You easily forget that all the vocals are by Bette Midler (with a little help from Darlene Love on one track). Looking at the cover picture, I rather fancy the one on the right. A novel idea, performed to the highest standard.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 August 2015I wouldn't say Iam a Bette Midler fan but I saw her on TV singing a song from this album and it sounded good. Also I recognised most of the tracks so I can sing along especially when in the car. If you are a child of the 60's you will enjoy listening to this.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2021Brilliant CD the songs are mostly from the 60's, just had a slight problem with the CD it jumped occasionally but I am playing it on an old CD device, give it a clean and its ok, she performs these songs brilliantly, can and do listen to it most days, if you like 60's music can highly recommend this CD
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 November 2014The Divine Miss M just keeps getting better. A fabulous album devoted to her love of Girl groups. Bette Midler's voice is amazing and the song choice is excellent. Some brilliant backing singers on the album, also a great duet with Darlene Love. As someone who grew up in the 90s I love the fact that Bette has included the song Waterfalls, sung in my opinion better than the original. This album is well worth purchasing. As a fan of Bette I was not disappointed. And even if you aren't a fan purchase this album and introduce yourself to her wonderful talent.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 January 2023All the songs are well known, but Bette Midler gives them a new twist.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 November 2014Okay, Bette hasn't got the voice she once had, we all get old. I love this collection and I love Bette. There are just two people in the world that I would drop everything for the chance to record with them - Bette Midler and Billy Joel. Back in the 60s I actually sang some of these numbers with my band, before I gave up singing to become a highly successful jazz guitarist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
It doesn't get better than this. The music selection is sensational as is the delivery! Love the flaming pink color of the vinyl, but it is the sound QUALITY that is so extraordinary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Contro il logorio della vita moderna

5.0 out of 5 stars Miss Midler al cubo.
No me agrada mucho la música en inglés pero Bette Midler es de lo poco que tolero, un disco que alegra el día y pone de buenas. Quince nuevas versiones.
