Editorial Reviews

Washing Machine erased any notion that the band had run out of things to say. Easily their most adventurous, challenging, and best record since Daydream Nation, the album finds Sonic Youth returning to the fearless exploration of their SST records, but the group has found a way to work that into tighter song structures. It's not a commercial record, nor is it a pop record, but Washing Machine encompasses everything that made Sonic Youth innovators.

The vinyl are well pressed, enjoy this great album by Sonic Youth!

In my teens and twenties, though I was only a passive listener of Sonic Youth, I tended to prefer Thurston Moore as a singer and mostly disliked Kims vocals. This wasn't a male over female sexist view, as I enjoyed many female artists, singers, musicians, front-women for their art and vocals. There was just something that annoyed me to the point where I didn't want to hear another vocalist other than Thurston on a Sonic Youth record. Fast Forward to 2019. Where Kim became my favorite member, and this record did it. Her sass, her clear and stinging vocals made me truly listen for the first time. I went from a passive listener to an active fan. My year end Spotify review listed Sonic Youth as my top band though I listened to over 3k different artists. All thanks to Washing Machine.

This reissue is excellent. The pressing is crisp and clear. Sound level is accurate. If I remember correctly the records came in high quality sleeves. Get it while it's still available and cheap.

This the best Sonic Youth album to start off with and their best period. Kim Gordon played guitar on most songs so there was 3 guitars on most of the album! I wish they played on the 3 guitar idea a bit more because this album is just so beautiful!

Best Tracks: Becuz, Saucer-Like, Washing Machine, Unwind (my favorite), and of course the Diamond Sea

The long awaited and much needed reissue of Washing Machine is here. Great album, and the vinyl is of great quality. Very low surface noise, remastered audio (it appears to be a pure analog master too, but don't quote me), download code, and good quality cardboard packaging. Great reissue.

really intresting and replayable tracks "becuz" is great and it captures a decade probably a 80's reflection in the 90's.

the whole album is impressive i only brought it for the diamond sea and i like this whole album now.

This Sonic Youth album is one of the best. It has a perfect balance of Sonic Youth's hard garage punk sound, and their more etheral ambient experimentation. It you kow you like Sonic Youth already, you will most likely dig this album. If you have never heard Sonic Youth, this album is a good overall picture of their entire discography.
