VERUM (The Nocte Trilogy Book 2) Kindle Edition
My name is Calla Price and I’m drowning.
My new world is a dark, dark ocean and I’m being pulled under by secrets.
Can I trust anyone? I don’t know anymore.
The lies are spirals. They twist and turn, binding me with their thorns and serpentine tongues. And just when I think I have it figured out, everything is pulled out from under me.
I’m entangled in the darkness.
But the truth will set me free.
It’s just ahead of me, so close I can touch it. But even though it shines and glimmers, it has glistening fangs and I know it will shred me.
Are you scared?
I am.

From the Author
"Do not be afraid; our fate
cannot be taken from us; it is a gift."
Dante lied.
Our fate must be worked for.
It must be paid for.
With tears.
With blood.
With everything we have.
And it is not until the end,
the very end,
that we will know if it was worth it.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2015WOW. Just WOW. I was left speechless, at a loss and unable to even form a coherent thought for a few hours upon finishing this book. I am still hungover from it and can honestly say this is the best and craziest feeling I’ve ever experienced from reading! Thank you Courtney Cole! You are BRILLIANT! You’ve got an incredible story going here, one that I am waiting with baited breath to finish.
I refuse to give any plot or even character details in this review other than to say you MUST MUST have read NOCTE first, and you MUST be willing to just go in with an open mind and take things as they come. Because before you know it you will feel slightly insane yourself! And it’s amazing! NOCTE left us dangling on the edge of a cliff while Verum pulls us off the cliff to safety but not for long. It then leaves us with yet more questions unanswered, waiting eagerly for Lux to offer us a resolution to this wonderfully cryptic story.
Calla, poor Calla, is just not a reliable narrator and yet we so badly want her to be. We hope that what she’s telling us and what she’s learning along her journey is what is true and will put our minds and her mind at ease. At first this is the case, or so it seems. But then the story takes so many twists and turns, flips upside-down and inside out and just OMG by the time you are done you aren’t sure what is real, what is truth, what is happening. And it is the best feeling! I can’t explain why but it is!
Courtney Cole is truly a mad genius at work here! To be able to engage the reader so completely and so immediately is truly a special talent. To be able to make the reader feel as insane as the main character may be is no small task, and she has accomplished this perfectly. I’ve spent many many hours thinking about this 1storyline and where it could possibly be going from here, and theorizing over and over again with several other readers and we are all no closer to figuring out ANYTHING. And I love that! I cannot wait to be surprised and captivated by Lux later this year! Keep up the AMAZINGLY AWESOME writing Courtney Cole! You’ve got a masterpiece here!!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2015Back in December, Nocte by Courtney Cole, the first book in this series, took me on the ride of a lifetime.
It was a completely unique storyline, very different, very special. My only problem was that the book could have ended right there for me, and could’ve easily been a standalone with a few minor tweaks. I was hesitant when I found out Nocte would be a trilogy, but I knew I would end up picking the rest of the books in the series. Eventually, February rolled around as did my preorder of Verum. I picked it up quite soon, as I was just too curious. And what did I think?
Protect me til I know.
In many ways, Verum felt like a repeat of the first novel. But at second glance, it is much more than that.
Somehow, Courtney Cole has managed to create yet another compelling story which had me flipping the pages at light speed. I was thrilled with this book, it was written so well and so vividly. It was at times almost hard to read it, perhaps because of the unreliable narrator and her stream of consciousness, which was not edited down at all. Instead, it was beautifully strange, poetic, a current of her thoughts and wishes.
The relationship in this novel is stellar.
I love that there aren’t any cliches like a love triangle (God forbid), but instead a very confusing, yet addicting storyline. I love Adair DuBray, or Dare – I love him right down to his name, and I want more, more, more!
Because I need his light to live,
Because a monster lives in us all.
Courtney Cole’s writing style truly shines here and she does the stream of consciousness thing so well, it makes me jealous.
She has an amazing capability of writing about damaged individuals, and her books hurt as much as they make me swoon. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised with Verum, while I thought it would disappoint, it lived up to its predecessor. In some ways it felt like a repeat, yes, but then again, it was so amazingly written, and it truly surprised me with its twist.
Run, little mouse. The hawk is coming and you’re going to get eaten.
Recommended to fans of twist, dark stories, strange things and beautiful relationships … It is not explicit at all, but it is a ride you will never forget.

5.0 out of 5 stars Una lettura spaventosa e coinvolgente oltre ogni aspettativa.
Che nessuno muova un fottutissimo muscolo. Alt. WHAT DID I JUST READ?!
E quel finale . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars So good.
I love a book where you are second guessing everything, you don't know what's real and what's not. I loved book one and the ending shocked me beyond belief. What I thought was happening wasn't even close.
I went into this book thinking I knew better and that there was no way the author was going to get me again...and bam...she did...now I'm anxiously awaiting book 3...hope it comes out sooner than the summer, but will wait to get it.
Great series, not a cookie cutter book and is the reason why I love it, plus the characters...you really want them to get through this and end up together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Madness Madness here I am
This book is really awesome, the character are very great, smart and so real. I loved this book, it’s full of madness, I had the impression to be in Alice in Wonderland and honestly I would like to read more books like this one.
The twist is good, in most of the books I always find the plot but in this one, I had tons of ideas and they were never correct. There is just a thing which I found but even having finished the book I am not sure that is true. I don’t know any more what I believe and I find it very impressive. My mind is like the rabbit hole and Wonderland, I am lost in the madness like Calla.
Courtney Cole is an amazing author, she has a wonderful writing, she knows how to surprise, to make you cry and to make you think. I would like that more author wants to surprise their readers, I know it’s not simple but it’s so pleasant.
I love the story and this end, oh God this end is awful but I don’t believe in it or I don’t WANT to believe, I really don’t know any more what I am thinking, all the things in this book can happen or not, or maybe yes or not. My mind is absolutely messed up with this book and I don’t know how to explain that it’s so nice, so great and so RIGHT. I think I am in love with that trilogy and with Courtney’s mind.
I want to read Lux very soon and like she’s an amazing author, it should be release in June, so just five months to wait for the last book. I really want to know all the answer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, the mind bend continues
Verum (The Nocte Trilogy, #2) by Courtney Cole
5 stars!!
“Protect me. Protect me. Protect me.”
I have to say that when I finished this book I was speechless, my brain was frazzled and I struggled to form coherent sentences. I was totally immersed in this story and just when you think you know what is going to happen, something comes along and swipes the rug from under you. Courtney Cole has this knack of leading you one way, only to do a total 180 and take you completely in the other direction and your brain struggles to keep up, you have to be on your toes and absorb what you are reading, I am sure the clues are there, but for me it was just one total mind bender of a book, but it was so so good. This is one of those reads where I was thinking about it for days after. I have theories on theories on theories, none of which I am sure are correct, but I still plot, even if it is just to release all the mumbo jumbo I have whirring around my brain at the moment.
“The end is the beginning.”
This book will keep you glued to the pages, you will be frustrated and confused but you will be gripping your kindle for dear life as Courtney Cole dazzles you with another instalment of an amazingly executed plot, that is so well written you cannot help but sit back and appreciate it. I am in awe and I am seriously wondering how her mind works, or should I just be scared?
“There’s savagery here, there’s grace. But above all, there’s oblivion and no matter what I do, I will be sucked into it.”
I found myself constantly wondering what was real, was it a figment of imagination, could it be dreams, could it be hallucinations or is it just the truth staring you straight in the face? You can’t help but question everything you read, but as you begin to digest and try to comprehend what you are reading you cannot help but analyse, or in my case over analyse. I highlighted like crazy so that I could go back over major plot points but after going back, it still doesn’t make any sense which only leads me to the conclusion that I still have no freaking idea what is going on and that is the master stroke that Courtney Cole pulls in this series, she has me hood winked, I am flailing about blindly but this is one story that I cannot shake and one story that I cannot wait to read the conclusion.
“I’m the rabbitrabbitrabbit and I’ll never be free.”
I am not going to go into any details as with a book such as this you need to read it for yourself, draw your own conclusions, have your own theories, try to comprehend what you are reading and formulate the points for yourself. You will probably be like me and end up with a migraine but you cannot help but cling to every morsel that Courtney Cole throws at you and devour it like it was your last meal.
“…and I’m brave, but my bravery will get me eaten. Whether he wants to be or not, he’s a wolf. And I’m a lamb.”
The setting changes in this book with Calla going back to Dare’s home, Whitley Hall, with a spooky and sombre setting such as is this stately home you cannot help but be drawn even further into this story. The vivid imagery that Courtney Cole conveys through her words only draws you further into Calla’s plight and gives the words you are reading life and a vision. The writing was so atmospheric, I had goose bumps, chills and shivers, I felt the fear, I was scared, my heart was pounding but that is the amazing thing about this book, it makes you feel.
“Run, little mouse. The hawk is coming, and you’re going to get eaten.”
There are a plethora of new characters introduced that only adds to the complexities of this story and will have you once again trying to unravel who is good, who is bad, who is evil, who has a hidden agenda, is all as it seems or is it really as bad as I think? At the end of the day I cannot wait for Lux, for now I have given up trying to fathom where Courtney Cole is going to take me, I am just going to sit back and enjoy the ride, I know it is going to be a roller coaster, I know it is going to be mind bending but I know that I will love every single word, every single scene, every bit of dialogue. The end is in sight, but I will I still be sane by the end? That is the million dollar question!!
“We’re all a bit mad, aren’t we?”

5.0 out of 5 stars Once again, AMAZING!
I really enjoyed reading the second book I love the story line and I love how you just get so involved with the story and you try to wrap your head around it but no matter what you still are left bewildered. Can't wait until the third one
